"MichiganCoog,

We're picked to win our PAC 12 division and play in the BCS conference championship game our very first year out of the MWC

And You?"

And TCU was picked to win the MWC football championship every preseason from 2005 to 2009. How many times did they win it, and when?

If Utah wins the PAC south, which is a possibility (and not incredibly unlikely), then it is probably a better indicator of how weak the PAC south is rather than how good the Utes are (look at the end of last year-- Utah needed all the luck in the world to beat one of the worst BYU teams in decades, a BYU team you Ute fans said was a horrible team). BYU will do fine.

"A troll isn't someone who lives under a bridge, a troll is someone who goes "fishing" for someone who will bite on the bait. If trolls are ignored, they go away."

I have doubts about this, In My Humble Opinion. Ernest T. Bass is almost always ignored (I've only seen one reply to him in the past few months), yet he continues to go on with his blabber.

Guaranteed there are more fans nationwide who are interested in watching BYU basketball, than that sorry train wreck on the hill. Without Majerus, Utah is barely above UVU/SUU level.

Nowadays, Utah barely draws enough fans to fill half the lower bowl at the Huntsman.

Our once in 30-years talent was only recruited by one other school, but made a bigger splash nationally than any player in Utah history.

Bogut may have won the Wooden Award, but I don't remember a single highlight of his ever being shown repeatedly on ESPN.

Okay if BYU BB is so marketable, how much were they worth to ESPN?

hmmmmm?

Sooooooo...

Howard, wait for the announcement of the dollars.

In the meantime, figure what BYU gets for football.

And, if you want to know and understand how exposure helps, read the other article in the Des New where Joe Dupaix explains it.

Just figure BYU's football money, add to it the ESPN basketball money, add to that how much BYUTV makes, throw in the free exposure...

Then compare a game on FS, VS, and the game BYU put on ESPN for the Utes, and figure what being a second rated member of the PAC costs Utah.

Utah got disrespected by the PAC. Explain that, please.

Please, tell your players to be on their best behavior. The Vegas Bowl was not a shining moment for Utah.

Let's keep it classy when representing the state.

@Harold S "Okay if BYU BB is so marketable, how much were they worth to ESPN?"

Apparently enough for ESPN to extend their contract with the WCC for another 8 years...isn't that what this article was all about?

BTW, for both Harold S. and Duckhunter Hunter...talking about marketability and BYU being a national brand. I'm currently working for the summer at a high profile art gallery in Santa Fe, NM. We get people from all over the states, including a lot from the east coast, who come in. Whenever I mention the fact that I'm from Utah, they don't mention anything about the U. But when I tell them I'm going to school at BYU, curiously enough, they immediately mention Jimmer and how good BYU's team was last year.

So yeah, I'd say BYU's marketability is pretty solid. People from all over the country have definitely had their interest and it's only going to get better with the increased exposure through ESPN. Go Cougars!

Enough for the beancounters at ESPN to want to televise 10 to 15 BYU games in 2011-12.

wow, certain "fans" are the biggest idiots in the world.

BYU is on ESPN lots and lots and lots of times, for years and years and years. Before you throw out words like football on thursdays all the time...look at "your" team's schedule.

Also note, educate yourself and read your own page...until you realize how bad ute BB is.

Who picked the Utes to win the PAC 12 south in basketball or football? Chris, you picking the utes to win doesn't mean they are going to win!

Arizona will win the PAC 12 south in football in 2011. Utah can't beat USC, Arizona, or ASU.

BYU will beat Ole Miss, Utah, and Oregon State.

"Because BYU has not done anything relevant on the national stage since 1984."

Yeah, beating Utah 3 times in the last 5 years is not relevant on the national stage because Utah isn't relevant on the national stage.

Win a national championship Utah, then you sit at the adult table.

"By not mentioning it, the reporter can only leave us to assume the answer to both questions is "Not enough to mention.""

Actually, the WCC is 100% private universities, so they are not required to release financial information. I know you probably went to a public university (eg. Utah) and got a public education, and so you probably didn't know about the private university protocol, but I'm glad I could educate U.

Leave it up to BYU grads to always teach U alumni new stuff.

BYU never releases financial information, and the WCC won't either.

Fact is BYU basketball and football will be on ESPN more often than Utah. Everyone knows that. Question is, Utah is now a little fish in a big pond. What can Utah do? It has no negotiating leverage. BYU is the 600 lb. Gorilla, and Utah is now the ugly, red-headed step child of the PAC 10.2

I don't know how much the deal is worth, but I'm willing to bet that it is a lot more than BYU was getting from the MWC / The MTN.

And I'm willing to bet that it's about 12 more games on national TV than U will have.

I haven't checked the Utes site lately. Any more players leaving since Sharp?

How much people???

It's an indication of the market value of BYU BB.

Is it more than the ESPN spelling bee, or womens bowling, or championship poker?

How much....

The Utes may not be on TV as much, but they get paid television dollars regardless of if their game is broadcast or not.

@Howard S. See Cougar_Independence quote above.

Besides, Howard, I thought that exposure and money didn't matter...isn't it "all about winning" in your words? I'd say BYU's got that down pretty well. We're still waiting for the U to break .500 :)

As for BYU's marketability, as I stated above, with people around the nation knowing about BYU and Jimmer, I'd say that it's pretty solid. But thanks for your concern :)

Oh, but you and u won't. Exactly what did the utes show last year that they can win this year? Tough competition blew you and u out of the water (TCU, ND, BSU) and you and u could only muster a 1 point victory over a very young BYU 7-6 team.

you and U "WILL" not win. Mark that down! We all did!

Please see my comment at 8:01 pm. Clearly you probably got your education at a public university as well.

Private schools won't reveal financials.

How many games does Utah have on ESPN again?

This is fantastic news! I'm so happy for Dave.

PLUS, I will get to watch my Cougars play football and basketball on ESPN for years to come. That makes this girl very happy!
