That was a great article to read, as a father of two sons, I charish them very much and can't wait for the adventures we will be able to have when they are a little bit older.
i love road trips and always have---i usually drive 80% of the time and sometimes 100%---my trips have included family (both as child and as parent)and/or friends on trips ranging from two weeks duration thru overnight trips to day trips---i have done them by motorcycle, car, bus, in an eighteen wheeler, and by thumb---some have been leisurely but some have been in a hurry on purpose---but in none of them have i felt afterwards closer to a co-participant than before i left and in a couple of cases i have actually lost friends; one was thought to be a good or best friend---
my point is, the reasons and expectations for the trip have to be universally accepted by the participants who must also have both real feelings (nice) for each other and a willingness to temporarily increase tolerance of others behavior, and decrease importance of their own feelings during the trip---that is the only scenario that has any hope of maintaining or increasing "family" strength or love---
it is a good article but i warn others not to emulate with unreasonable expectations---
