I have an idea, instead of Mr. Hatch playing to the party, why doesn't he throw his support behind someone he truly believes in?
Or here's an idea, how about voters decide when Mr. Hatch retires instead of these pro-chaffetz radicals?
The one reason Hatch should fight for his Senate seat is to protect the people of Utah and of the United States from Jason Chaffetz. Chaffetz is an umitigated disaster, and it would not serve Utah and the United States well to have him in the Senate. We already have one light-weight, incompetent Senator "representing" Utah. We don't need two.
Senator Mike Lee
&
(Senator) Jason Chaffetz
And these very same people want Sarah Palin or Michele Bachmann for POTUS.
Thank heaven there is Checks & Balances -- I'm thankful there is a Democratic President to Veto everything these ultra-far-right-wingers try to pass.
If the choice is between Hatch and Chaffetz, we'd be better off just letting the seat go empty.
The prospect of Utah voting in someone more right wing than Hatch is frightening. Utah's dream of mainstream acceptance will take a big hit.
lds lib,
where was your call for checks and balances when BO crammed Obamacare down our throats when the majority of the population was opposed to it? Where wsas you call for checks and balances when he forced the now totally discredited and failed porkulus down our throats?
regardless, Hatch needs to go, then Chaffetz can help provide a check and balance against the unmitigated disaster currently occupying the whitehouse.
Yes, I think the best idea is to have the collective experience in the Senate for our state be two years. Great plan.
Should Orrin step down? I'm undecided on the subject. He will be 84 when his next term is up and that, frankly is just a little too old for me. However it is difficult to determine what Orrin's power base will be in 2012 if re-elected. Possible chairman of the Senate Finance Committee is a real powerful slot and would benefit the U.S. and Utah a lot (and I don't mean Pork).
One thing most of you, especially CHS 85 forget. Way back in 1976, when Orrin was first elected, our senior senator at that time was Jake Garn who had been in the senate a whopping two years.
I see the 2012 election as a replay of 1976 with a twist. A powerful Senator (Hatch), this time a Republican instead of a Democrat (Moss), up against a young fire eater (Chaffetz) who is also a Republican. No Democrat in sight. The young fire eater in 1976 was Hatch.
It will be interesting to watch. History may repeat itself.
It's a fact. Orrin Hatch needs to go.
Does the radical tea party group who use loud foul language and smear tactics really represent Utah's values?
Will we support those who will stop at nothing to destroy Mitt's and John's chances of being elected? Remember, these folks trashed the LDS religion last election.
Now all of a sudden we'll support them? Why?
Furry should be "fuzzy." Mike Lee "Lightweight?" I don't think so.
We could have made the mistake of re-electing Bob Bennett, who would have done nothing to attempt to change the status quo in Washington.
Hatch will ride his seniority status as the presumptive Chair of the Senate Finance Committee all the way to the ballot box in 2012. It won't work.
He'll be 78 years old on election day. Can anyone tell me what his major accomplishment after 35 plus years in the Senate might be? Just pick one, only one -- what is it?
It might be that he is simply the poster child for longevity, but to what end? He's exactly what is wrong with Washington -- the seniority system put in place by the parties to promote longevity.
Retire gracefully? It won't happen. He'll be eliminated at the nominating convention and face the same ignominious exit Mr. Bennett experienced. The old dogs just don't know when it's time to go because they really are true believers in themselves.
What do they believe? That they are indispensible and irreplaceable. The voters will likely decide otherwise.
Orrin's time is up.
Surprise! The Left, which would never vote for Orrin Hatch or Jason Chaffetz anyway, are so very concerned that the voters won't get to vote on Orrin Hatch in the general election. They know that their only hope is that Orrin Hatch will be on the ballot so that they can use the same arguments that the Republicans are using, i.e. too many terms with too little to show.
A Statesman would bow out and wish other Republicans well. A Statesman would be satisfied with decades of service. Time will tell whether Orrin Hatch is a Statesman or whether he is just another politician who had to be fired by the voters.
In the meantime, doesn't the Left have a candidate that they would like to elect? No? I didn't think so.

when and where was Mr. Chaffetz bad mouthing the dominant religion around here, trying to hurt Mitt's or John's chances of election?
I saw none of that from Chaffetz, but it comes constantly from the liberal posters to this board.
Orrin, retire with the advice I got on graduation from high school. Get out and don't come back.
