"...if genuine Republican candidates keep dropping out (Govs. Mitch Daniels and Haley Barbour), or refuse a run (Gov. Christie, Rep. Paul Ryan), or make stupid statements (Newt Gingrich, Rep. Ron Paul)"
Firstly, nice shift of tense. Secondly, what have been the "stupid statements made by Rep. Ron Paul? Are you mad that he said the U.S. doesn't need troops in 130 countries? Is it stupid to say our fiscal challenges can't be met without changing our view of the government in our lives? Is it asinine to follow the Constitution? Oh, wait, I probably know. You think it was 'stupid' to say that we didn't need to lose hundreds of lives in Afghanistan, only to enter Pakistan without permission and then assassinate Bin Laden when we could have captured him like we did Hussein. Or was it that he said the Civil Rights Act was good, except he didn't like the idea of government telling people how to run their business? If Rep. Ron Paul is the 'stupid' one of this race, then be prepared for more statist measures from congress, more corporatist policies and runaway inflation. Those, apparently, are the 'wise' things.
best P&W column I've read- very funny
