What is this All Independent Team? They take for teams and boil them down to 3 team of all stars. Anyone left off should surely feel bad. Will they keep this idea alive when there are only 2 independent teams?

Congratulation Mr. Reynolds. Well deserved award. Heaps should be taking Reynolds out to lunch every day from now until Matt walks to the podium as a first round draft pick next summer.

There is a great tradition in this state of producing NFL quality linemen. Interesting how both Utah and BYU's sucessful years they have always had a good stable of linemen.

Skill position players get too much credit -- the game is won in the trenches.

18 of 44 players, that sounds about right. Notre Dame will have quite a few players on there and Navy will have a good number too, and even Army probably contributed a couple.

I'm not trying to detract from these pre-season honors, just trying to keep things real when I say that were the cougs in a larger conference, many of these players would not be receiving the same accolades. Reynolds is an exception, deserving of everything that comes his way, but some of the other players listed wouldn't have made the pre-season all conference teams even in the Mountain West.

It appears that one benefit of being in a smaller "conference" is more opportunity to load up your trophy shelves.

C'mon BYU posters. Quit feedin' the bottom feeders (trolls). All they want is validation that they exist, and you guys keep giving it to them in spades.

    Ignore them.

I Don't even bother to read their posts, because I know the nonsense they'll spout.

There ARE a few Ute fans who post here that ARE worth reading, though. Kudos to them for being REAL fans.

The NFL-owners have made many college coaches + fans very happy this year.

There will probably be lots of good/great players stay in school one more year and then next year make themselves available for the draft in 2012/2013.

Could be better than John Tait. Different players but both are incredible. I'm seeing lots of years in the NFL for Reynolds.

    Reynolds is great!

With the star LT coming back maybe the Cougars can beat Utah State this year!

@PapaSmurfUte and BamaUte. Out of genuine curiosity, how many Utes made the preseason All PAC 12 team? Or the All-American team?

I guess we will find out just how good the team and individuals are when it comes game time. It they open up at 4-0 or even 3-1, they will shock the nation by what they can do and how good they really will be.

The uties on the other hand will be the bottom dwellers in the pac 10.1.1
Look for the u fans to be hunting for excuses when the cougs "crush" them at LES. It could get ugly real fast. Look for the u fans to be running out of LES as fast as many of the Bball team members did last year.

"Reynolds as it stands today is your only real star."

Yes, many on these boards and elsewhere claim that Reynolds is a star. This is not news.

What I'd like to ask is who is Utah's star? I have to exert a lot of energy and can't even come up with a name. Surely, it's not Wynn, Lose or Draw.

    Independence > pac 10.2

Congratulations to Mr. Reynolds looks to be a great season for him and he deserves all the accolades he has earned; however what is this all-independent team from Phil Steele? Bwahaha!

Is this really news Deseret Blog? Bigger news would be 4 BYU starters are NOT named to all-independent team - what happened to them? Maybe the 4 will be considered when BYU wins the Independent National Championship this year as they careen through their WCC schedule. Gold stars for everyone, why stop at 18?

Give us all a break DesNews.

    Veritas,

Duh, Really? I didn't think of that. Thanks for pointing that out for me. I guess you are all about Truth and Justice. Hmmmmm, well. Not according to some Y fans. You may not say this, but others think that Heaps is the best QB in the nation and has the most upside, so he is an obvious choice for all irrelevent. Apo, (though he has yet to play) is the best receiver, and Cahoon has already made him a legit superstar. Reynolds as it stands today is your only real star.

How come not every starter for Byu is not on the All Independent team? Everyone is saying that Byu is soooooo much better than Notre Dame, Army, and Navy. I would think that out of the 200 or so players that actually play for all these teams, all 22 starters, plus the special teams players would be All Independent. Matt Reynolds is a great player, and deserves every single award he gets. Hopefully he gets drafted by the Niners or Pathers. To protect Smith's butt, if he is still there, or to be along side Jordan Gross, another All American, All Conference player drafted in the top 10 of the NFL draft. Depending on who is drafting where next year. Matt could definately be a top 10, maybe top 5 pick. He is a beast.

It's too bad Pendleton lost so much time to injury. I think he would be on par with Reynolds nationally had he played all of last season. I hope he is back full strength for his final season as he has all the tools to be a starting linebacker in the NFL. Expect a couple of our young linebackers to follow him in the future.

Serious, not another National Award for a BYU athlete?

Didn't Merlin Olsen win the same award at Utah State?
