    Obesity causes sleep apneas, where fat in the throat/soft pallete closes off the airways, decreasing the amount of oxygen in the body during sleep to dangerous levels AND robbing the brain its ability to recharge during deep REM sleep (due to the fact that the body has to wake itself up repeatedly to keep breathing, one never gets really deep sleep).
