I'm not too worried about the Utes not appearing on ESPN this year. Whether the games are on ESPN, Fox regional, or some other sports outlet, it's still going to be a lot better than the MTN was. The Utes are the new kids in the Pac-12 so it stands to reason that they have to earn their way into the prime TV slots. Also, if Utah can continue winning like they have the last few seasons, then I have no doubt that more games will be picked up later on in the TBD slots.

Its better IMO to be mediocre & in a major conference than independent & mediocre.

These comments are funny! You guys both average what are you arguing about? Neither of you guys will be in a major bowl this year.

BYU fans will finally be able to watch all the games- whether on ESPN or not- it doesn't really matter. Of course all the U fans will be able to watch all their home games- they all fit into that stadium up north.

For BYU and Utah the possibility for a major bowl still exists. Ironically, the one team guaranteed not to play in a major bowl, or any bowl for that matter, is your team. Irrelevant before fall camp even starts. That's you.

"Namely, what is the television situation for the U for the 2011 season?"

Pretty dismal, especially if you believe half of what's written but cheer up!We got good news and of course there's some bad to keep the universe in balance.

Good news... Utes are on ESPN2 thanks to the BYU Cougars
Bad news... If the Utes are anything like last year there's a real problem with nationally televised games and... reruns on BYUtv!

By far the most intelligent, well thought out comment I have read since the Utes accepted the invite to the pac10 and BYU has announced going Independent. Well done.

"That was a joke, by the way."

Well like I said it can only be one of those two things. Either Utah owns their home rights this year or else the pac10 owns them. If Utah owns them then they should be seeking to make some kind of deal to get them on tv. Since there has been zero news about that being the case then I am assuming the pac10 owns them. With that being the case the fact none of them has been chosen to be televised at all should trouble utah fans. I'm serious about that it should really be a worry.

Even if there is some clause about this in the existing contract the principles are all the same. Fox/ESPN/Utah/pac10 so it would be no real problem to arrange for utah home games to be shown.

My guess is that utah will wind up with a home game or two televised this season but once again this makes them appear to be no more than an afterthought and that isn't a promising thing for utah fans that want to see games. It looks now like utah may spend alot of time on the pac10 network.

Don't worry yourself. I'm not worried. I just want someone who knows to tell me what the plan is so I know what kind of TV package I'll need to have for this season. We know the future seasons are taken care of since we'll have games on FOX and ESPN, so no special packages needed there.

Besides, the Utes made it this far and to a BCS win while being relegated to the dismal MTN network's obscurity. If it happens that we're on the Pac 12 network 80% of the time, I don't really care. We've been nationally successful before without the 'exposure' some BCS schools have.

But again, the network doesn't start for at least another year, so it's kind of irrelevant to the issue. We have some big home games this year and I doubt the Pac fans of those schools are going to be ok with non televised games.

Reading these posts is like taking your sister to Prom. Not a whole lot to brag about here. Really looking forward to seeing BYU on ESPN this year.

Go Cougars.

Mediocre is mediocre, but if that's all U aspire to in the PAC 12, go for it.

BYU, on the other hand, has their sights set a little higher, a back to the future 1980's kind of thing - National Championships, Heisman Trophies, prolific offenses, great defenses.

If you were curious how BYU treats the Pac10.X schools in Provo, go to youtube and search for "BYU vs UCLA 2008" video by Furious Monkey, posted by Coug4lyphe. One of the best highlight videos of a BYU football game ever. Shots of Neuheisel in the thumping are precious.

You do realize in 2007, the Utes destroyed UCLA 44-6 at home when they were still highly ranked (#11), right? You can watch that one on youtube as well.

If that's an indication of how Utah treats Pac 12 teams when they come to our house, the Utes will be a dominant force in the conference.

But football is played each year for a reason. Teams and opportunities change.

While Friday games don't have the notoriety of prime time, I've got to say that I don't mind them that much. At least it keeps my Saturdays free (which I know my wife appreciates.

Glad that the Y vs. U game is on ESPN2. That's the best set-up that game has had for a while. I will always wonder what might have been if Utah, BYU, Boise State, and TCU had been in the same conference, especially with Nevada and Fresno State (if those programs stayed viable). However, due to recent actions by the BCS (ordering the Fiesta Bowl to pay 1 million dollars to charity that they were already going to have to pay to charity), I'm sure the MWC never would have entered the BCS. Oh well...

I have no idea what this year's rivalry game is going to look like, which is kind of cool, in a way. It's always unpredictable, but being so early in the year with two teams that have a LOT of questions marks...it should be entertaining.

You do realize that the following week the Utes lost 0-27 to 2-win UNLV, right?

UCLA may have been ranked #11 the week Utah played the Bruins, but they dropped like a stone after that game and finished out of the rankings.

BYU, on the other hand, destroyed UCLA 59-0 in a game that wasn't that close. UCLA hasn't been beaten that badly since a 1920's loss to USC, the Bruin's worst loss ever.

I don't care. I was just pointing out that going on blowouts from years past is kind of petty.

It sure will be nice to watch a BYU-Utah game without the bias BYU alumni calling the game.

You may be wise but can't recognize sarcasm??

So, per BYU's goals, Will Bronco get Springsteen to provide the theme? You know, "Glory days"

I'm pretty sure neither the field referees nor the replay booth officials that said that BYU player fumbled before the knee was down were BYU alumni.

I'm not worried about it. I know I'll be seeing my team play. Whether or not utah fans get to see their team play is the question and it is a big one. Once the pac10 network is up and running then I am sure you will get to see most of utahs games provided the cable and sattelite providers pick that channel up which is no sure thing either.

But it is pretty obvious utah will not be at the top of the list for ESPN or FOX games so getting the pac10 network up and going is going to be very important to utah fans, more so than it will be to the fans of most of the other pac10 schools. It remains to be seen if it will be of any better quality than the Mountain network as well.

But for this season at least it looks like you guys may not even see 1/2 to 2/3rds of utahs games. As of now there is only one of them you know you will see for sure and that is their game with BYU. That is worse than the mtn gave you.
