re: swoop
yeah, no one watches football games on black friday. Remember last year, Auburn vs Alabama? Best game of the year day game on black friday. Not saying Utah vs Colorado will be a great game, but day and time not a big difference than having it on a Saturday.
Well of course TCU/Utah will outdraw the Utah/BYU game. It has THREE fanbases watching.
1) BYU's
2) TCU's
3) ...and Utah's
My goodness, just look at the comments on every BYU article on every website ever. BYU really does have a bigger following.
re: cheeseman187
Since when are the Utes playing TCU?
Good to know that if Utah was playing TCU, that its biggest draw would be BYU fans.
Isn't this article about both Utah and BYU?

Who's "we", you're a Utah fan.
Utah State became an independent without even having a decent local television contract, let alone a national television contract with ESPN, and with no ability to broadcast their own games.
As far as Nelson; BYU didn't steal him from the Aggies, he made his own choice to leave Utah State for a much better program. Riley is a good athlete and BYU will probably find some way to take advantage of his skill set, but he has practically no chance of ever being BYU's starting QB again.

It's one thing for fans to make a special effort to watch a game like Auburn vs Alabama on a national network.
It's quite another thing to expect droves of casual fans to be tuning in to watch Utah vs Colorado. Besides, how many fans will even have access to FOX Rocky Mountain Regional?

Don't be silly, cheeseman187 was obviously talking about the BYU/TCU game.
Midday on Black Friday, lost amidst the chaos of Christmas shopping and large family gatherings, is hardly the ideal time to attract a large national audience, especially if the game isn't being broadcast on one of the major networks.
Friday night would probably be better for fans watching on television, but how many fans would show up at RES on a Friday night in late November?
re: CG
Colorado played its rival Nebraska the day after Thanksgiving for 15 straight years. Since they both won't be in the big 12, Colorado asked if they could start playing their new rival the day after Thanksgiving. This will probably be the case every year.
LOL at your comment making fun of Nebraska.

That's rich. Check out your home schedule, New Mexico State, Idaho,Idaho State, Utah State, San Jose State. Couldn't you find another WAC patsy?

Already scheduled a Ute, Patsy.
At least Utah will be on ESPN once this next year. I think KJazz has some open time for the Utes.
I am not surprised, or offended, that Utah is "under-represented" on the upcoming fall's Pac-12 TV schedule. Many of the tenured teams, and CU, have larger fan-bases, and most have been on the national radar for longer. But if Utah is able to be successful, I am confident that ESPN and FOX Sports will give them more air-time.
Who can complain about that?
finally something we can both cheer about!
Say what you want detractors but these games alone are still more than I was able to watch all of last season.
only on national television once, a top 25 team??? How can than be? A game with BYU. Very interesting
Although this shows that BYU has a better reputation with ESPN and that the ratings expectations are higher for BYU nationally, there are still a few "TBD" games on the ESPN/PAC schedule that could feature Utah if they are having an outstanding season and are the hottest team in the PAC.
Wait until the season is over before filling out the report cards.
I just heard on another board that they are going to rename ESPN, they will change the name to BYUTV.

You "hear" things on message boards?
This will be a great game. It's great to have access to it.
As much as I like to make fun of utah fans the truth is I like that Friday after Thanksgiving game date. I think that is a great day to hold a game and if it was BYU playing that day I would definately go or watch it on tv if it was a road game. It would be better if it were an afternoon game instead of an evening game however.
Still I don't know if it will have much for ratings. That is a big shopping day, biggest of the year, alot of people will be going on dates, many will be out of town, etc. Also neither of the schools is much of a ratings draw anyway. So while the date is probably good for fans of the 2 schools I don't think it does much of anything for anyone else.
Its a good thing those Utes got that huge TV deal and are going to have a national exposure 1 to 3 games a year isn't national exposure by the way.
Good times! Thanks for the laughs everyone.
Yesterday after this news broke I went straight to a ute fan at my work and we are both very excited that we dont ever have to worry about the MTN Network or VS or CBSC or whatever obscure channel they have connections with ever again.
Lets face it, its fun to be out in the wide world that is NOT the MWC. Congratulations to Ute and Cougar fans alike! This is HUGE! (thats what she said)
Go Cougs!!!
Cougar fans, just keep spewing whatever garbage makes you feel better about having to go independant after being left behind. Ask Arizona State if they would have been better off staying in the WAC even though they've been to one Rose Bowl since jumping ship to the PAC 10. We are going to the adult table, where we are better off than we were, and better off than you are, even as an independant.
