Well, we could sterilize the internet or parents could raise and supervise their children. Because something bright and shinny has an "on" switch doesn't mean it was intended as a babysitter.

Quite simply, Facebook is a tool of the Devil that should be avoided by all, whether 13 or not.

The primary purpose of Facebook is the promotion of illicit sexual conduct. Indeed, countless marriages have been destroyed by spouses looking up old flames and then engaging in inappropriate relationships.

As for teens, Facebook has caused an explosion of premarital sex. Teens use Facebook as. Tool to advertise their sexual availability, which in turn leads to inappropriate relations.

In short, responsible parents not only ban their 13-yr-olds from using Facebook, they avoid it themselves.

I think that's a pretty harsh general assessment. I have a Facebook account with lots of friends and never once have I been exposed to sexual content. The content that you seek is what you will find.

Facebook is used by just about every religion organization in the country, including the LDS faith. In fact, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has their own account and uses the blog feature to share information and reach out to the general public. Every tool that can be used for good can be used for evil, but that doesn't make it inherently bad. If a user is conscientious and cautious, Facebook is a great social network and tool for receiving information. Yes, I think you have to be careful. When Facebook "upped" the age of its users, I had my daughter delete her account. But, with proper supervision, it can be a great interface.
