Mel Gibson has proven himself to be a violent person and a racist. I won't be giving him any more of my money.

That is such a spectacular movie.

Mel Gibson has made some mistakes and has gone through some hard times. I think he's learned a few things from his bad choices. I hope he's able to get back on his feet and go forward. That's the beauty of the atonement. It allows all of us to repent and try again.

Good for Jim Caviezel. I admire him.

It would be too bad if Caviezel is denied work because of this role. He is a brilliant talent.

We just watched Ben Hur at home recently, and wow, they don't make films like that in Hollywood anymore. It was refreshing to see a movie that was actually unapologetic in its Christianity. How sad that a good actor may be passed over because he's a believer.

The actor wants our prayers too for his career but use Gibson as a`starting point.

That would be disappointing that an excellent portayal of Christ being crucified would cause other producers to not want to use him for their projects. Is it Christianity as a whole they disagree with or are the producers and money backers Jewish who feel they were maligned by the film?

There's a certain poetic justice in this movie being snubbed by Hollywood, Gibson consequently having to fund the whole thing himself, and the movie then making a fortune -- a fortune that Hollywood would have made had it not been so disdainful of Christianity. Ha!

This movie is inspirational and a true work of art. Gibson is a good man for having made it. Caviezel too. I think far less of the goading Oksana. Gibson has my support.

I see, so if you make a movie or are a celebrity or star athlete you can be racist or beat on a spouse? Interesting what people will support these days.

I didn't take the opportunity to see "The Passion of the Christ", I found the title and subject off-putting. After all, what could a big Hollywood type be able to tell me about my Savior. How could someone that doesn't know Jesus tell me about him in any significant way. I say that just so you know that I am probably biased.

Now someone wants me to pray for him, and I have no idea how that prayer should go. Should it include a petition for humility? Should I be asking that the love of Christ will come into his heart? I am totally unsure of what he needs me to be asking in his behalf. I guess I will just ask that the will of God be done in his life. But I would guess that is happening already.

In looking at what Caviezel said, remember that he was preaching in a church. The full text of his comments are not available, but it sounds to me like he was just saying it would be very easy for Christians to judge Gibson, but that the higher road would be to pray for him instead. I don't think this was a general call for a day of prayer for Gibson, but more a commentary on the human tendency to judge someone because they sin.

In a church sermon context, when Caviezel preaches/says, "he's a horrible sinner, isn't he," Caviezel is being ironic -- implying that everyone is a sinner by God's standards. The original article italicized the word "horrible."

That wasn't a movie. That was a snuff film.
Why would people pay to watch a guy get tortured for two hours.

We all need prayers from strangers some time in our lifetime. Does one really know everyone they associate with at church? Does one really know their neighbors? Their community? The judgements that are being passed are EXACTLY what Jim is preaching against, and yet some people think they are better than Mel Gibson. Well, let's get real. No one is better than another person. Period. As Jim has said, and has been repeated even before he said it - Everyone has their own cross to bear. Some have it outward to bear, while some keep it inside. It is a struggle, and no one is exempt.

I'm just glad that Jim Caviezel has said out loud what many people have been thinking, or not wanting to look square in the eye. Mel has a beating heart, and deserves all the help he can get.

Your comments are unnecessary and biased. You don't have to be mormon to have a relationship with the Savior. It sounds like maybe getting bucked off your high-horse might provide some humbling perspective.

We are all divine members of the human family.

@ HVH,
Some of us saw the underlying themes of love, truth, redemption, and atonement amidst the brutality of His suffering.

Two hours to reset my feelings towards the Savior and what he has done for me isn't the worst time spent.

It certainly isn't for everyone; however, I wouldn't refer to it as a snuff film.

Jim Caviezel sounds like a very thoughtful, honest, and humble man.
I appreciate his sentiments.

It's not for us to lay judgement on those carrying personal burdens. Our judgement is deciding for ourselves how we will confront the evils in Babylon, by selectively learning from the examples and experiences of others.

First off I am not mormon and would wonder why you would jump to that conclusion.

One only needs to look at the life of Mr. Gibson to see that he is not following the example of Jesus. I do believe that a person should be walking the path that Jesus walked in order for that person to know Jesus.

If you think that I am on a "high horse" just because I do not look to Hollywood to tell me what to think or how to feel, I guess I will take that high horse. I do not dislike Mr. Gibson, I just will not follow his lead.

I don't need to watch a movie to know and feel the Lord's suffering and Atonement for me, especially made by a violent racist man.

All you Mormons that watch this and love it, keep in mind that Mel Gibson believes in a brand of Catholicism that says all that don't believe like him are going to hell. End of story, no second chances in the afterlife, no alternatives. This includes Mormons.

So Mel gets a pass because he made this movie but I bet you all are the same people who are up on your moral high horse when an athlete beats his wife or drives drunk aren't you?

Caviezel was in a very bad motorcyle accident recently - and probably feels very blessed to be alive (and I probably shouldn't speak for him). He is a terrific actor, I loved his portrayal of Johannes in "I Am David".

Everyone needs prayers - everyone goes through tough times.
