The effort of U.S. forces to find and bring Osama bin Laden to justice for murdering thousands of innocent Americans was years in the making and often marked by dead ends and frustration. However, the tide turned in August when bin Laden's trusted courier was located in a secure and large compound just 35 miles from the Pakistani capital. Obama began a series of meetings in March to plan for the operation. The meetings continued even as the White House worked to deal with a possible government shutdown over the budget. The final meeting took place Friday morning, when the president signed off on the operation before traveling to Alabama to view the devastating tornado damage. The courier first became known from detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, four years ago. The years of sleuthing led to the million-dollar mansion in Abbottabad, set on a hilltop and surrounded by 12-foot-high concrete walls topped with barbed wire. The compound was built to hide bin Laden in 2005. The trigger was pulled on May Day 05/01/2011 Sunday and he was shot in the head while he tried to resist the assault.

Too bad his actual death was in December of 2001 and not April of 2010. I can't believe how gullible people are.

Nobody needs terrorism, however I thought you were innocent until proven guilty in this country.

Osama's body conveniently dumped in the ocean, so how will we know?

RE: Gordon T.
Innocent until proven guilty in this country, but we were playing by Pakistani rules.

I feel another consrpiracy theory comming right along. I commend it, go ahead. No, it doesn't make you look silly, not at all....

Obama's recent joke: " I hear Michele Bachman is going to run for president, which is weird because I heard she was born in Canada. Yes Michele, this is how these things start."

DNA tests take WEEKS to do, really. Really. No, really....

Now, if this was just our Government involved I would be wondering, but I do not believe that the special forces would lie to their country. These are good trustworthy men and they may deceive as part of their mission, but they would not deceive our country. I do hope they release the photo, and I do hope that they gathered some great intelligence from that compound. I am glad that this man is gone, his acts hurt a lot of people. The guy that murdered my cousin there in Utah, got taken off death row, and I know how I feel betrayed by the system in Utah for doing that. At least these over 3000 people's families have some resolve.

I took a great song and changed the words to make it even greater.

Ding Dong! The Terroist is dead. Which old Terroist? The Wicked Terroist!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Terroist is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Terroist is dead. He's gone where the Al Quida goes,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Terroist is dead!
Yes, let the joyous news be spread The wicked Old Terrost at last is dead!

Truthers and Islamofacist Democrats are searching for Bin Laden on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean after he was buried 45,000 ft above sea level from US Army Cargo Plane...little do they know his body pulverised when it hit the ocean...guess you could say he was not only buried at sea nut also creamed at sea....GOOD RIDDANCE! GIVE THE 25 MIL TO THE TROOPS!

I'll believe it when I see a photo of the dead body. If photos of helicopters and bloody rooms can turn out so clearly, then surely photos were taken of the most sought after terrorist of the last 9 years. Surely.

The pictures showing American flags and celebration can cause another attack. People, stop celebrating!

Great news. No doubt it happened as stated and congrats to Obama for having the steel to act as he did.

It was a clear act of capital punishment and glad to see this administration finally sees the importance of swift and sure capital punishment.

I applaud Obama for letting our military do their duty without shackles.

And to the perpetual conspiracy nuts, just know that there were too many involved in this to keep anything nefarious quiet. And, it was fake, it wouldn't be long before the fake was exposed. America has too many enemies that would love to embarrass us. This was real and a done deal.

PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS. American people did not choose this fight. It came to our shores, and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens. As a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed. We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies. We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda's terror justice has been done. We give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who've worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. The American people do not see their work, nor know their names. We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country. Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory .

I am not an Obama supporter but I will give credit where it is due! President Obama did a masterful job as our commander in chief on this issue! Does anyone find it ironic that the intelligence we obtained by waterboarding ultimately gave us the location of Usama bin Laden allowing the Navy Seals to kill him? Does anyone find it ironic that liberals are celebrating the killing of bin laden today were adamatly opposed to waterboarding? One can only conclude that liberals think we can kill terrorists but we must never, never waterboard them! I am glad the last person Usama saw on this earth was an American! God Bless the USA and God bless the men and women in the armed forces!

I like Obama's style as Commander-in-Chief.

100 un-manned Tomahawk cruise missiles into Libya = (Zero American casualties).
20 Seals - 3 helicopters = Bin Laden dead (Zero American casualties).

as opposed to the Bush Doctrine;

10 years + 5,000 American deaths + $1.5 Trillion dollars = and Zero Bin Laden.

Now that's the Hope & especially Change I'm talking about!

What's on the horizon now?

Do we keep sending billions in aid to Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan? Do we keep two hundred thousand troops abroad and spend countless sums fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan/Pakistan and now Libya?

Or can we concentrate on our own domestic woes at last and spend the money and resources at home getting our economy back on track?
