"If ye have faith as a grain of a mustard seed ye shall say unto The Mtn,
remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be
impossible unto you." Matthew 17:20And to all you
delusional Ute fans predicting a win in Provo next year... you are going to get
stomped! Norm Chow's next game at LES is going to be similar to his last (59-0,
UCLA, 2008). You lost all your playmakers on offense and Harvey Langi is going
to get a very rude introduction to D1 football by Fangupo and Kaveinga. It's
payback time!! Can't wait! GO COUGARS!!
I have one question. If BYU had been invited to the Pac 10 would they have
accepted? Like Utah they would have said Yes in a nano second. How does that
reality stack up against Independence. Good luck. You know, I want you to know I
was having a bad day but we played the cards we were dealt.
You guys will lose to UT, OLE MISS, and possibly Utah or UCF and your title
hopes will be over before Halloween. That's reality for you. You have a young
QB a unproven OC and tough road games all in the beginning.
I love how BYU fans think that none of the other teams are getting better and
how their season is gonna be a walk.

@flintrockAnd that hypothetical 20 mil still will not be enough for
utah to catch up to BYU in revenue and spending. LOLNot to mention
utah's athletic department is in the red and BYU is one of only a few in the
entire ncaa that runs in the black. So tell me again how still being
behind BYU in revenue and spending, even with that massive influx, is a reason
to try and talk smack?LOL
You are overlooking 2011 and 2012 when the pack-12 pays you zilch.
Re: flintrockWhat good is the extra money going to do you when it's
only being used to pay for fired coaches salaries or funding sports/facilities
you don't currently have that the pac12 requires ? It's funny you use that
dollar figure when it's all speculation at this point since no new tv contract

flintrock Utah plays Montana State at home. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Look at all the
teams BYU plays on the road. look at our future schedules in 2012 and 2013.
Notre Dame, Oregon State, Texas, Boise State and yes your beloved Utah ALL AT
HOME! gotta give some to get some. all in due time my friend.
Utah will also have to endure the 20 million per year it will receive from the
Pac 12 in 2013. That's a lot of pain to suffer through. That's about Triple what
BYU will receive from ESPN. How about those great home games. Why doesn't the Y
just play Southern Utah, Snow and Dixie. Same caliber of teams. Idaho Stategive me a break !!!!!
@hedgehog "And the lDsnews? How many honor code stories have we had
the past month, 25? Talk about back patting overkill. "Lol, not
sure where you're trying to go with that one, big guy. ESPN is also still
reporting on the Davies situation and honor code at BYU...so I guess the D News
is in good company. That was a fairly big national story...even the Trib wrote
up articles on it. :) Go Cougs!
Cheer up Coug fans. We'll just have to endure this season with returning
starters at nearly every offensive position while the utes steamroll the nation
with an injured QB, an inexperienced rugby player at RB, and all-american WR's
that can't catch. We'll also have to endure a defense that finished last year
ranked ahead of our (little) brother's defense to the north. It'll be fun to
watch as Rice Eccles battles the Huntsman Center for attendance records later in

BluCoug,Open your eyes or step back a little bit and look at this
website...That's all I want to say, it is easy to figure out why
it's like that.Every year is "exciting times" for BYU....
when is it true?
I love the talk about Anae being stagnant and predictable.Yeah...
predictable in terms of play calls that protected his QB from the weaknesses of
his O-line.I can't wait to see some unpredictable play calling that
exposes young Mr. Heaps to blitzing linebackers and DBs.Should be
fun... and exciting.
I'm glad that Utah fans are excited enough about BYU to keep reading and posting
about BYU articles. I notice that the DNews never has to disguise a BYU article
to trick sports people into looking at it.Our extended family has
purchased a ton of season tickets again, as Lavell Edwards Stadium is a great
place to take your family and see a football game. It looks to be a fun year.
@thleteHow large a sum? Utah is going to be a very mediocre team
this year, I honestly don't understand why any of you utah "fans" have
any optimism. Sure you are excited to go to the pac10 but utah has very little
talent on offense and horrible qb's. Yes it will be ugly for them in Provo. Very
Let's get real guys! Texas struggled because they sent several players to the
league including Heisman candidate Colt Mccoy. Their Texas they will be good
CRBYour assessment of Heaps clearly demonstrates your severe lack of
football acumen. You're welcome to your opinion, but Heaps is going
to make that opinion look extremely foolish this season.
Worf - Disagree with your BSU analogy.I would say that
Boise State's prior weak (in conference) schedules has been more of an
impediment than a help to their BCS successes. The Broncos usually win vs
difficult opponents. Wish they could play more of them. I believe that
stronger opponents will improve their performance in all areas. Can't wait for
September in Georgia.
Hey fellow Cougar fans, until we actually get to a BCS bowl, mum is the word.
@Thlete (for your entertainment of course)Here's what you overlooked
in the similarities between the mid-major PAC-10.2 schedule and the MWC. It's
called the 'transitional reverse hostess continuum'.Last year the
Utes defeated a few 'cupcakes' in the MWC and this year, the Utes will be
defeated as a 'cupcake' in the new PAC reiteration.Does that work
for you?Keep singing "High Hopes".
Cakewalk? All your top teams have cupcakes or they'll never get to the top BCS
games. It's more of the win-lost record that gets you anywhere. Look at Boise
State! Didn't Alabama have some cupcakes or Florida?Go Utes! Beat
@Duckhunter, a "decisive beatdown" of Utah? I'll put a very large sum
on Utah +7 this September if you'd like. You do realize that BYU hasn't beaten
Utah by more than 7 points since 1996, right?I understand the
excitement for a new season, but your team was what 6-6 last year to squeak into
the worst bowl game possible?LOL at the person who said Utah's
"middle of the PAC" PAC-12 schedule is similar to MWC. Mid-bottom MWC
teams don't beat Nebraska (UW) or come within a botched PAT of Wisky on the road
(ASU). That was the whole problem with that conference was the anchors after
Top 3.Also, to those who are surprised at Utah fans commenting: it's
a long offseason and we are just fanatic college football fans. We eat up every
Ute article and anything else that might mention or affect our team. Not
surprisingly, BYU articles are fun places to banter with a team from the early
sched. Of course, the pie in the sky comments are always entertaining. Keep
believing that a BCS game is possible when you have no contract.
@ PAC 12 loves U Here the difference, which articles have more
comments? BYU fans love their Cougars and ute fans have an obsession with the
Cougars and their sports program.Cougars > utes
Uh crb....at least 4 of BYU's opponents this year have been listed in various
top 25 polls with BYU being listed in some of them as well. I have seen Texas,
TCU, CFU and Utah all listed in at least one poll as top 25 teams and TCU is in
some top 10's.Also your "stats" and "rankings"
on Heaps are laughably wrong but I suppose it is one of those things where you
think if you post it people will simply believe it. LOLLook for a
decisive beatdown of the utes in Provo this year. You can request for hailstorm
to come over and save that comment if you want as she has a Duckhunter file on
her computer. She might even had started a scrapbook of me. Of course she won't
be able to use those comments in the manner she hopes to but it will be fun
waiting fir her to do it and then having exactly nothing ever appear.LOL
Heaps is a good QB but the BYU O-line is still suspect in my opinion especially
as run blockers and the BYU D-line got pushed around fairly easily last year.
Will Brandon Doman take BYU offense forward or backward to the Crowton style
scheme... that remains to be seen. I remember how happy everyone was to get Anae
after Crowton and the Y had some excellent years under Anae so I hope Doman's
leadership is for real... as I'm sure Bronco does as well. Anyway, I suspect
this will all be very clear after a game or two into the season.
Hey CRB...Don't you think some of Heaps' struggles early on had to do with being
a true freshman, having to share reps during spring and fall and the first three
games of the season, and running a predictable offense under Anae? With all
going against him, Heaps did unbelieveably well during the last half of the
season and made Wynn look silly in the rivalry game. Seriously, how many times
did Wynn throw it into the dirt or toss it out of bounds whenever he felt a
little pressure? I think I even saw Wynn crying on the sideline when he got
pulled so Cain could play. CRB, I think deap down, you wish you had Heaps over
little baby Wynn.
Good luck, Cougs, but unless you start beating some teams that have a winning
record and win a bowl game, you will go nowhere (which is why we're independent
today vs. being invited to a major conference). Sorry to inject some reality,
but I'm not living in the Wasatch Front and content to see us just do what we've
been doing for decades...
Looking forward to BYU football and basketball in 2011-12. Plan to attend a few
games, watch all games on TV, and perhaps buy some BYU merchandise in
December.Very interested in Utah football's future, but not enough
to read articles about them or comment on them. That Ute fans continue to read,
comment, and offer retorts on BYU-focused articles tells me BYU sports occupy a
prominent spot in the hearts and minds of many Utah fans. Strange, but
flattering if you're a BYU fan....
I think all of BYU's games are winnable. Its a question of whether or they can
stay focussed all season and not get cocky. BYU has played Texas twice in the
past, and won both games. No one knows how well Texas will be this year but I
think BYU can pull it off. TCU will likely be the toughest matchup- their
defense is always stingy! I think that everyone is underestimating how
difficult Hawaii will be at home. They've got a good, and very mobile, QB. BYU
almost always struggles with mobile QBs. I don't think OSU will be difficult to
beat- our defense clobbered them (and they had the Rodgers Bros.) a couple years
ago, and our defense will be better this year. Overall, I'm cautiously
optimistic of our chances- we have quite a few 'cupcakes' to pad our schedule,
but it only gets better from here.
Okay, here we go with the hype again. As usual it isn't just the media or the
fans the coach is involved. BYU continues its uncertain (and desperate) sound
in football by, touting an experienced returning QB. Humm.... Heaps was the
worst Freshman in the country last year (ratings fact) and in the bottom 5 of
all D-1 QB's (fact). Proven? Lets just say to improve he will have to be more
mobile, be able to throw on the run, be able to accurately throw the 15+ yard
pass, finish drives, not lock on receivers, go through progressions and not just
throw it AT his first option and make decent decisions in the pocket. Some of
these will improve but the fact is that BYU has only occasionaly done well with
the immobile QB and Heaps is not the right skill set. Lets not talk about a
weak schedule where undefeated will not mean a shot at the BCS and independance
means no shot at a Nat Champ game unless they schedule at least 6 top 25 teams
and thie year they have, lets count them, ZERO. But it is still better than the
Ole Miss has a lot of problems. Way more than BYU does. Why does everyone has us
losing to them? They are rotating thru 4 quaterbacks and can't find their
idenity. BYU CAN beat Ole Miss. Texas is rebuilding just like BYU is and they
too, have lost their coaching staff to Florida. They had a losing record last
year as well. But BYU will probably lose that one, it IS Texas after all. I just
wanted to say Ole Miss CAN be a win.
I just gotta add that the Cougars going independent was a bigger news story than
either Colorado or Utah joining the PAC 10, making it into the PAC 12. Truth!
Gosh, how many times have we heard that Utah is going to the PAC 12? I say
"GO," please. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. As far as
the MWC is concerned, they really showed their true colors by being less than
honorable about the way they treated BYU teams, fans, cheerleaders etc the last
year they were in the conference. A great example way the BYU-U of U Football
game officiating. (It was likle collectively they had a guilty conscience about
losing one of their king pins who chose to leave the party.) And for those who
are upset about BYU getting some ink, why haven't you complained about the Jazz,
Jerry Sloan and D. Williams when they suddenly were all the "latest"
news? After all, they don't wear silly looking red and white U's everywhere
they go claiming they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I see it:@Ole Miss (L)@Texas (L)Utah (L?) always closeUCF (W)USU (W) no way it happens twice in a rowSJSU (W)@OSU
(L)ISU (W)@TCU (L) c'mon, let's be realistic. Utah and BYU have even
showed up for this one for a whileIdaho (W)NMSU (W)@ Hawaii
(W)So I see it as 8-4 and could go as high as 9-3. In all honesty, the
only reason I have Utah is I'm a fan. That could go either way. Heaps is good
but, I believe he'll be great next year. good luck on an improved season.
I put my prediction out there because Honor Code predicted 5-7. Since the season
is many moons away I wanted to convey a belief in the coaches, players,
cheerleaders, Cosmo and all the true blue BYU fans until an opponent beats us on
the field. At this point why not predict an undefeated season and a trip to a
BCS Bowl. Set the bar high and the team might respond with a maximum effort.
After all we almost beat the mighty Utes (next year a PAC12 self proclaimed
powerhouse) last season. So let's get the drum beat going and carry our
enthusiasm all the way to Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. Or, just drop the
football nonsense until late August when we find out who is healthy and who is
just pretending to be great.
It's laughable when BYU haters proclaim that the DN is BYU biased. Really? You are just figuring that out? Don't try to make them the bad guys
for having a bias.ALL news organizations have a bias. There isn't a
single one out there that is straight down the middle on any issue. Not in
Newspapers, TV, radio, or other media.Welcome to the internet news
age. You can go anywhere at any time to get the news you want, with the bias
you want.If you don't like the DN articles, or the content, or the
frequency, go get your news from someone who shares your bias.I am
still baffled why anyone would waste time reading an article about a team they
hate. Someone please explain that to me. My life is too busy, too full of other
things to worry about what Utah, who I could not care less about, is doing.BYU haters, please get your news somewhere else. I promise, we won't
miss you, at all.
I think Bronco hit the nail on the head when he said, "sometimes the enemy
of great is good". I think that was exactly the problem from 2007-2009.
They were comfortable with good, and he wasn't really pushing them to the next
level. Sounds like he learned his lesson last year and may be on to bigger and
Honor CodeNo, if you were a BYU fan, you wouldn't be living your
life trying to spread contention. You would instead be cheering on your own
team. Whatever that is ... CSU?
Howard S.Interesting that our Independent status and schedule are
enough to keep you logging on every day....
Did anyone see the ESPN truck or get a picture of it? I bet it was so cool to
see that truck. I bet none of the yewts see it this year. Unfortunately, due
to some unforeseen events this weekend, I didn't get to see it.Are
all of the games on ESPN this year? If so, why are only some of the games
listed as on ESPN on the Cougs website? Anyone know?

What? The D News wrote the article about the Utes transitioning to the PAC 12
before the Cougs article...pretty sure that the newspaper is trying to balance
both stories, which is what they should be doing. Do you have writer's envy,
PAC 12?Have you seen the SL Tribune lately? I think their latest
article on BYU football was when Ammon Olsen transferred to the Cougs, which
happened about a week and a half ago. But if you want to see how amazing the

sammyg | 10:28 a.m. April 25, 2011Springville, UT Please give
coach Chow some respect. He had many good years with byu just don't disrespect
him like that. I think the cougars will have a good team this year
and it will be exciting to watch. I think Ole Miss will be a good game, Texas as
well. If we are 2-0 out of the gate, it's going to be a great season, if we are
0-2 or 1-1 it might get kind of nervousness feelings. After Ole Miss
and Texas games, we have two more teams that are away games. Against, TCU and
Oregon State both are two hard games to play. I think we can beat TCU but Oregon
State is tougher. UofU and UCF are home games, they are in our
backyard, it's our games to loose. Go Cougars!
And I thought a separation would help the Ute and Cougar fans become more civil.

CougfaninTX:I really have to cheer Washington on because I want to
see Sarkisian (BYU alum) succeed. Personally, I think he was a major cog in the
success enjoyed by USC during his years as QB coach. As soon as he left for the
Washington post, USC began to stumble. While I cheer for our cougars, I'm also
rooting for Washington's cougars!
Barring injuries, this could be a wonderful season. The coaching changes were
long overdue and it looks like we have an incredible staff. With Bronco coaching
the defense and Brandon the offense, it should be a breath of fresh air.
The so-called "patsies" are balanced out by the likes of
powerhouses Texas and TCU. Every team has them (I only wish they were earlier in
the schedule!). I hope we are able to get big leads in some of those games so
that Riley Jensen can come on and show his stuff as well. He's got to be one of
the premier back-up QB's in the nation. But win, lose, or draw, true BYU
fans will be behind the Cougars all the way!
The exact moment that I knew I wouldn't miss the MWC came at the Conference
Tournament in Vegas. At halftime of one of the games, all the cheerleaders from
all teams came out to do a brief performance. The BYU cheerleaders were roundly
booed as they took the floor. Cheerleaders! Good riddance to the jealous haters
in the former conference, the pathetic TV coverage, the broken promises and the
road trips to Laramie.Hello to independence, ESPN, Doman and Cahoon.
This is gonna be good.
"Utah has onenof the toughest schedules in the country." KamUteThere is not a Top 10 team on Utes schedule. Utes don't even play the
two best teams in the PAC12 (Oregon and Stanford). Arizona St. and BYU are
probably the only Top 25 teams on your schedule. USC is not able to be ranked.
Pitt is picked to finish in the middle of a weak Big East. California, Arizona
and Oregon State will be middle of the PAC teams. Colorado, Washington St,
Montana St and UCLA are not much better than BYU's WAC opponents. Washington is
an unknown, depending on how their rookie QB performs - probably seventh or
eighth in the PAC12.The top six teams on BYU's schedule will be
tougher than the top six teams on Utes schedule. TCU is a legit Top 10 team.
Texas and UCF will be ranked in the Top 25. Hawaii could break into the Top 25.
Oregon State and Ole Miss will finish in the middle of their conferences. San
Jose St, Idaho, Idaho St and New Mexico State will provide a lot play time for
our 2nd and 3rd team to hone their skills for next year.
With BYU and Utah going different directions this year, it will be fun to see
how each team does. I'm looking forward to following both programs. Good luck
Cougars. Hope you win a bunch, except for September 17th of course.
Ah BYU haters. You guys make this place great!
We could totally go all the way the next three years with Heaps.
Still Ute Fans posting on BYU articles... Well since your hereESPN

Alabama, BYU, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Boise State, UCLA, USC, Stanford and
Oregon.Where is Utah???? Oh wait, no one cares except a small
fanbase with a little brother complex.Big Brother will always be on
the bigger and better "Stage".
I don't see why Ute fans think their schedule is so tough. Montana State?
Washington State? Colorado? Arizona St? UCLA? The bottom half of the PAC is
not much better than the bottom half of the MWC. Of course, Utah will probably
be bottom half of the PAC too since it doesn't look like they'll be very good in
2011. In fact, they won't be a threat as long as Wynn is there.
You are right. We will not play one quality team at home this year except ucf.
None of the great ones would come to provo..yet!
Honor Code Why would a jealous Wyoming fan even care about BYU's
schedule next year?Playing in the Jerry Dome versus playing in
Laramie? Really?I seriously doubt you could find a single BYU fan
who will miss those "exciting" trips to Laramie.
Howard S."With Idaho State, Idaho, San Jose State, and New
Mexico State on the home schedule I'm sure whatever you have to pay for those

BYU obsession caused you to overlook your own team from that list. Any game involving BYU is exciting, but being able to watch the Cougars stomp
the newly minted PAC 12 Utes will be well worth the price; and as an added
bonus, cooking up a little revenge for the Aggies. When was the last
time Utah was able to play SEVEN home games, plus have such stellar road games

The cougs to have a good year should go 9-3. The utes to have a good year will
need to go 8-4 or even 7-5. MY bet and I'm a utes fan is they will end up 6-6 or
7-5. The key is Wynn. Which Wynn will show up, the run and scream Wynn or the
great passer Wynn. I have absolutely no clue.
Howard SBYU has always had a tougher sched then utah, I don't know
if it's any different this year.Enjoy your Mont St opener.
Should be fun no matter who you cheer for. I'm glad Utah and BYU left the MWC as
both teams had nothing more to prove. I'm excited to see what happensnto both

left BYU. Just trying to be a realist here. Go, Cougs!!! Here's to a very

good idea that a lot of them would like to be with us too. I have watched
thirty years of glorius Cougar football. I have seen good men become better.
Sharing the Gospel the Gospel of Jesus Christ is better. No one loses. See you
all in 18 months.

livid at this schedule having to watch pansies as an opponent in Provo other
than Utah and UCF........
UTE Fans,How did Jordan Wynn fare the last time he visited Provo. ?
Pendelton has a Big Smile on his face right now. He is licking his chops.
As a BYU fan I'm happy with "really good" and I don't need them to be
"great". 9-3 with a bowl win is a fine football season. I understand
that the unique situation with the honor code and religious element at BYU
limits their recruting potential. BYU has exceeded my expectations most years.
@bigutefan "Last year was so bad I really didn't follow..." Wow, so you've followed BYU sports in the past, including a little bit
last year? As a "big Ute fan" I'm suprised you'd admit that. But
here you are, on a BYU article posting. Thanks, we appreciate the support :)
BTW, SDSU was a pretty good team with a winning record...just to
answer your question. Go Cougars!
Re Howard S: We can now see all of the games, either on ESPN or one of its
affiliates. Under the MTN, that was not possible. Do you not think the Utah
game will be exciting? First home game, and BYU wanting payback! You and your
ilk, rife with negativity, are laughable. BYU and its fans will be just fine
and will enjoy the exciting ride in a brand new situation called
We just renewed our tickets and are excited for this new season of independence.
We love our BYU Cougars and will be there supporting and cheering for them all
the way!Go Cougars!
Last year was so bad I really didn't follow, did Heaps beat a team with a
winning record? Just curious!
I like the Cougars in independence. Let's face it, they outgrew the MWC and will
benefit from this move. I posted before, this is probably the best era in
history (excitement-wise across the board) for the state of Utah as far as
collegiate athletics is concerned. I am cheering for my Utes to do well in their
new conference. I am cheering for the Cougars to take off with independence. And
I am cheering for Gary Anderson to build Utah State up. Man! I wish football
started next Saturday!
@TrueBlueWith Idaho State, Idaho, San Jose State, and New Mexico
State on the home schedule I'm sure whatever you have to pay for those tickets
will be well worth the price. Should be some thrilling games...
I'm very excited for this season. I have no doubt that this will be a special
year, and the Cougs will be much improved over last year. Even with more
experience than last year, we are still a young team. I can see us becoming
even better in our 2012 campaign. Legitimate Top 25 this year, and Top 10 next
year. With a few breaks, who knows . . .This may be the best group
of WR's to ever suit up in BYU blue. RB's should be solid. We saw Heaps come
into his own at that end of last season. Nelson looks like a solid backup, but
I'd still throw him into the mix 4 or 5 times a game for a little trickery or
wildcat formation (not a 2 QB controversy, Heaps is the guy). It sounds like
TE's are developing, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the production from
them.Front seven on D may be the best overall front seven to suit up
for BYU. It sounds like the DB's are better than expected for such a young
group, but again I'll withold judgement until I see them perform.
Exciting times are ahead indeed... first year as an independent, a new OC in
Doman and plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. It should be a fun season,
looking forward to September.
This is going to be an exciting year for BYU football. We're renewing our season
tickets this week. Can't wait until September.Go Cougars!
