Did I miss something? Did they change the capital city of Idaho?

Of course binge drinking ccurs in Utah.

When something is banned, kids will sneak around and imbibe all they can.

It's funny how people complain that they can't get a drink. The trouble might be that soo many people consume soo much that it causes a shortage.

Maybe if people actually just had a beer/wine with their dinner/lunch and to cool off, rather than drink themselves to death and try to make themselves sick every night.

Good grief people. Makes you wonder how they can afford the drinks? They're not cheap.

Well golly, I better just let my kids do whatever they want then. Often I'm surprised some posters have enough brain cells to type out comments.

But for the Legislature, would we be number 1?

Is ripping stories from leftist blogs now the new standard for newspaper journalism? And the MSM wonders why they are no longer able to sway public opinion...Clark Kent is dead and the Grey Lady is down, it's time to look back to the right --> and to the New Media for real, fresh journalism which once again holds the power mad responsible.

I really hope you where trying to be sarcastic with your comments about soo many people drinking soo much, but sadly having seen your past post I am pretty sure you are not. I would hardly call 3.5% of the population drinking heavily as so many people drinking soo much.

It should be no surprise that drunkenness and sloth are alive and well in Utah. Indeed, the legislature has turned to actively encouraging alcohol use in order to boost the economy.

The Utah legislature has apparently decided in must win the popularity contest among alcoholic-minded tourists. If it makes Utah popular with this group, the legislature is unconcerned with the consequences.

Study after study confirms that with increased alcohol use comes increased rates of crime, divorce, and suicide. Is this what the people of Utah really want?

None of this matters to the drinkers because no matter what Utah does to control or slow down drinking....there will always be those who will drink.... whether occassionally, moderately, or heavily. Alcohol is available enough to imbibe if you want whether out in public or in a home. Utah just has the mentality that tight restrictions will curb it. It gives our "religious protectors" in the form of Utah government some false sense of peace in their own minds that they are in control....when really....they aren't! Closing liquor stores or decreasing their hours won't stop people either. Utah is just cutting their own throats as far as the profitable revenue the sales bring in.

Idaho Falls--the capital city of Idaho???

Idaho Falls, ID

How do they measure how many binge drinkers there are? Don't most bingers do that at home or in frat houses? Strange poll if you ask me.

Idaho Falls isn't the capital of Idaho. Never has been to my knowledge. But what they lack in drinkers, they more than make up for in monster trucks- dare I say red necks?

The backwards laws here make you drink.

for those questioning Idaho Falls' inclusion in the story, you need to understand what the story is about. Follow the link. It is a story about the 30 soberest cities in America. It is not a story rating the sobriety of the state capitals. Admittedly, the title is misleading, and you are correct, Id Falls is not the capital of Idaho.

@johcharitysprings
did you read the same article as the rest of us John? SLC ranked as having among the least people that drink. From the article only Chattanooga, Tenn., has fewer monthly drinks per capita than Salt Lake. As for more drinking leading to more trouble according the CDC less then 10% of people that drink ever develop a problem with it.

George: I think John Charity Springs may have been drunk when he read the article, so do give him some leniency on his misunderstanding of such a complex concept as "Utah is #5 on list of cities drinking in moderation". Them's some pretty heady statistics to comprehend!

As for this report, I've been to churches and I've been to bars/clubs. Only one of those do I wish to ever frequent (frequently) again. Come on Salt Lake City -- we can hit #6 easy peasy!

@Belching Cow:

Why do you demonize alcohol, but swig gallons of Mountain Dew (full of sugar and more caffeine than Coca-Cola)? Or drink all of that caffeine-sugar loaded cocoa? Do you REALLY think that's better for you, than an occasional glass of wine?

It's all about appearances and hypocrisy, Utahns.

How about moving capital city to Provo?

Considering the extremely widespread use of antidepressants, which produce overwhelming cravings for alcohol, I am surprised Utah did as well on this list as it did. People who have never touched alcohol in their past can become heavy drinkers on these drugs. A recent study showed that of those who had some problems with drinking in the past 45% would become heavy drinkers once placed on an antidepressant medication. That overwhelming craving for alcohol produced by the antidepressant leads to the combining of the two substances and the combination can be deadly in many various ways from toxicity - just read the antidepressant package insert for a list of possible adverse reactions!
