Because they haven't addressed any major issues.

Issues such as immigration, education, and taxes are being put on the backburner in favor of state guns.

As I prepare to write a comment, this post crosses my computer screen: "DeseretNews.com encourages a civil dialogue among its readers. We welcome your thoughtful comments." Our lieutenant governor and members of the legislature, themselves, have been at the forefront in calling for civility in discussion. I don't know if that is why this session has been so "tame," but it almost surely is a factor.

Real reason for being tame?

Us Republicans run everything in the state. There is no room for arguments when we control everything. We all agree so who is going to argue?

It's tame because all the hard decisions are made within the Republican caucuses. They're not open to the public. The few Democrats in the Senate and House could object all they want, but they are too few to do anything but persuade or register their opposition. Get enough Democrats in there to restore a little balance and you'll see more fireworks.

Utah's public employees deserve a note of praise too. Other states are battling their employee unions yet in Utah the employees have not unionized. They continue to do their jobs even though there are less of them today than there were a few years ago. Over the last couple of years, the Legislature has drastically reduced public employee benefits but Utah government wasn't shut down over the issue.
