Fresnogirl - "I bet Boylen would trade losing in the PAC for
winning anywhere about now."No.... I don't think so. Boylen's
on a losing streak and he certainly needs some wins. But first and
foremost he's competitor. And real competitors always want to measure
themselves against the best competition available. So no... as a
competitor he would rather test himself in the PAC 12 against strong competition
than run up a cheap winning streak against weak competition. (think WCC...)
All of these back and forth negative comments, slams, putdowns, and speculations
are ridiculous! Most of you completely left this great article and went for the
juggler vein on the BYU and Utah hatedred syndrom! It gets so boring to see the
same verbal trash talk go back and forth."Cougars continue to
have the time of their lives!" And, yes they have. We, as BYU fans are
thoroughly enjoying the ride as well as the players, coaches, and students. They
have had a great season. We have attended every home game and have seen
outstanding contests. Congratulations, keep giving it your all, and..........Go Cougars!
Howard S ought to logout for a while. He is getting in over his head when the
only thing he has to throw at us is an obvious fact. Of course BYU would join
the PAC or the Big-12 if invited. No one has said they wouldn't. However, I
think we would have gotten paid the first year, and I think there were reasons
other than sports that led to our exclusion. Don't forget how many teams didn't
join the PAC before the u was invited.
Howard S.I guess you are right ... From the year I was born until I
was 20, the University of Utah had only beaten BYU twice (1978 and 1988). Now
that both teams are good, the games aren't so boring anymore. Way to turn that
around. Either way, winning is ALWAYS going to be better than
losing. Losing in another Conference is still losing. I would still rather win.
But I tend to be competitive like that. I bet Boylen would trade losing in the
PAC for winning anywhere about now. But, I see from your lack of
comments on your own basketball boards that you don't really support that team
@ mussingarroundUtah's done nothing to suggest they will be better
than middle of the PAC12? Well the Sweet Sixteen in 2005 isn't
yesterday but it's certainly more recent than any tourney success the Cougars
have had.And it's more recent than 1984 which seems to be the year
that all past, present and future BYU football success is based on.
Re: Veritas AequitasStop telling people they agree with me?Are you telling me that if a major conference invite came that BYU and their
fans wouldn't grab in about a half second.I think so.

Howard S.Oregon State hasn't played in the Rose Bowl since 1965.Arizona has never played in the Rose Bowl.Upside is nice,
but don't confuse potential with actual accomplishiment. There's no
guarantee that Utah will win a PAC 12 title in football or basketball for
decades, if ever.As we saw with TCU just last month, it's possible
that BYU could be playing in the Rose Bowl long before Utah gets there. And nothing Utah has done lately suggests that Utah will ever be anything more
that a middle of the PAC team in basketball.Utah fans may have to
learn the hard way that conference affiliation doesn't mean anything unless you
actually do something.Lots of teams in "power" conferences
bump along at the bottom, for years, even decades, with only occassional flashes
of brilliance.Do something! Then U can talk!
fresnogirl - Let me help you understand this.Losing
streaks, even long losing steaks eventually turn around. Remember 1-25?Conference affiliation lasts a lot longer that a losing streak. I'll take a losing streak and the PAC 12 any day over a winning streak
and the weird independent/WCC thing that BYU has.The PAC 12 upside
is bigger and better than whatever it is that BYU has.Don't believe
me... Well believe this... BYU would take about a half second to
jump at an invitation from the PAC 12 or the Big 12.But alas... that
is an invitation that will never come.
Howard S.So ... NOT winning and being invited to another conference
is better in your mind. "Truly you have a dizzying
intellect." I'll take winning and watching my football games
AND basketball games on EPSN. But thanks for playing.
Veritas AequitasYes my friend INVITED is good. It's
verrry good. It's better than winning 9/10.You know it
and I know it.
In the so called New Deal to make the PAC-10 a PAC-16 Super Conference, lest we
forget it fizzled out and Plan B was implemented. Thus we have the PAC-10.2It must be very difficult to be a Ute fan these days after losing so
much. If it wasn't for Jimmer, a winning BB team, and all of this other media
attention and now a TCU game scheduled I would just curl up in a fetal position
and just cry for my poor bitter and jealous Ute friends.
Dick, this is strangely similar to the article about the Ute football team last

things like "we can win every game." Hmmmmm Strangley similar.Veritas, playing the anti-U religion card?"...that the

Jimmer doesn't have to play on Sundays...for now. What happens when he's playing

Most comments are off point and repeated in almost any article related to BYU.
Sorry to see this kind of drivel.Cougars are having a great
basketball season as are the Aggies. Sorry Utes you are not as good as some
prior years. Our futures are yet to be written but both schools have brighter
futures. PAC12 will be exciting for the Utes. Indy will be exciting for Cougs.
WCC will provide great places to visit for as long as it lasts. Good luck to
both of these teams in the future. As a Cougar I am really excited to see Jimmer
play in his last few games as an amateur.
But howard how could that possibly be when you have told us over and over again
that BYU athletes don't ever make it to the professional level? How can you play
on Sunday's if you aren't even in the league?
Howard S.Now your getting desperate bud...
Independence is the way to go and BYU is the best athletic program in the

@ How-hog,Except for football and gymnastics, your invitation to the
Pac 12 is going to be disastrous. And if your football played like it did the
last four games of last year, your football team is going to be embarrassed.BYU was NOT chosen to go to the PAC 12 for political reasons. IF
tickets sales and better teams were the criteria, BYU was a NO BRAINER. You can thank Prop 8 and general hatred for religion, as the only
reasons why Utah was chosen over BYU. Come to think of it, the PAC 12 should be
admired for choosing ideology over money and success.

Howie, I think it is yewt basketball that doesn't have anything to look forward
to. If you think it is bad now, wait until next year when the PAC-10 start
pounding on the other two.As for hedgehog, they don't call the the
conference of champions because of anything the yewts have done. Wait until you
are really part of the conference and finish somewhere other than the second
division before you start talking like you've been there all along. Aren't you
the team that doesn't even get paid the first year? Sounds like they don't
really appreciate all of the prestige you bring with you.
I'm a U fan, but I hope the Y makes a big run in the tourney. What, I'm going
to root for Duke?Jimmer's season is proof of why 99.999% of guys
should stay in school. Larry Bird says he'd give 2 of his 3 NBA titles to have
one NCAA title.Even Kobe & leBron have regrets about skipping
college, which is why they loved the Olympic experience with Coach K.
Some more fun from that same article analyzing the pac10's desperate search for
exposure."According to my sources, there is no indication that
ESPN will be willing to pay what the Pac-12 wants or provide the exposure
opportunities the Pac-12 is seeking. ESPN has no place to put them, one analyst

pac10 we are talking about! You know the conference of champions! But ESPN has
no place for them and isn't willing to pay to put them on anyway. Boy things are
sure looking up aren't they?I understand it though. It would be hard
to find a place to televise pac10 games when they have a ratings powerhouse like
BYU in the fold that they are going to telecast weekly. If they do wind up
charitably taking on any pac10 sports they can put them on after BYU telecasts
and hope for some hang over viewers.

@howard and wedgieSo here is a very telling quote from an article
analyzing the pac10's current attempt to negotiate a tv deal. Of course the
addition of the powerhouse utah and colorado basketball programs only makes the
pac10 all the more attractive a commodity. I am sure the networks are just
fighting over who gets them."1. ESPN doesnt view Pac-12
basketball as a valuable entity Im not sure if anyone does, frankly"-John Wilner San Jose Mercury NewsYep it looks to be all
coming together. LOLOh and just a little more info from the same
article, the 2 mil utah fans think they are getting for the pac10 championship
game is really only going to be maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of that amount once fees and
such are deducted. You can read that in the same article. It is going to be
tough to run your top flight LOL athletic program on that measly income for the
next few years. Of course I'm sure your counting on a bunch of income from all
those sellouts at the huntsman center.
Howard SThere is a reason the PAC10 did not invite BYU. And it has
nothing to do with sports. In the Mountain West Conference
Championships BYU - 96Utah - 16That is not including - Rugby,
Lacrosse, Men's Volleyball or Gymnastics since they play in different leagues.
Clearly if the PAC10 wanted the best Athletic Department - they
would have selected BYU. Utah is an average Athletic Department.
Utah was so bad in Track and Field they gave up that sport in 2005, Your
Swimming and Diving teams are bad in the MWC. You are average MWC teams in
Tennis, Volleyball, Softball and Baseball.Comparing Utah and BYU
athletic departments is like comparing a New York Steak and Spam. BYU would struggle in the Olympic sports in the PAC10 and BYU has dominated
the MWC. In Track, Cross Country, Swimming and Diving BYU has won 80% of all
championships in the MWC. The only positive in this year Basketball
team is that it has prepared Utah Fans to know how to Lose. Because they are
going to do a lot of it.
Re: stokethefireEven for my Cougar friends I always advise buy low,
Howard S.And sometimes decades of dominance can turn into decades of
being dominated.See BYU/Utah football pre- and post-1964.It could be decades before Utah returns to the level they were in the late
1990's.And the Rose era for BYU basketball could rival the Edwards
era of BYU football.
howie and hedge;Jealous and insecure much? Obsessed for sure! Hateful

BYU beats the TUN.
@howardI love how your identity, and the identity of the utes, is
all dependent on your association with schools better than yourselves. You have
nothing of your own to stand on and you have a program in delcine in practically
every sport but because you are going to gravy train some programs far superior
to your pathetic program is gives you a sense of validation. LOLThat
is pathetic. But funny. LOL
@mussingaround so you mean just about every other team in the country
needs a conference to feel validated, including duke and north carolina.
Kansas amongst a few others to name that have won multiple championships but
they must be bad because they are in a conference and byu is not so oh well...
Howard S. You seem to know so much about the future, do you have some investment

@ Howard S.You taking your record right now and where the Utes are
at and going over BYU is something to just make you feel better at night, but I
doubt most of the nation would agree with you. Maybe if you take off your red
goggles and see the whole picture, it make come clear.
Just so everyone know. In the Last 30 years - the PAC 10 has won 1 National
Championship in Football. The same amount as BYU. Utah may be going
to the Conference of Champions? But Utah sports teams are not champions. Since 2000BYU has 2 National Championship in Volleyball2 Lecross National Championships1 Rugby National Championships1

anything the Utes contributed or because they are joining the conference...
hedgehogAs far as the Utes are concerned, it might as well be called
the "conference of chumps".The biggest difference between
BYU and Utah is BYU doesn't need a particular conference to validate their
credentials, while Utah thinks that their credentials will be validated simply
by association.Just remember, every major conference needs its
bottom dweller to pad the records of the elite teams in the conference. The Utes
will be great padding.

Howard S.While Coach Rose continues to build a program that is
gaining more and more national prominence every year, the coaches on the hill
continue to watch the floundering Utes sink even further into the abyss.BYU will help raise the stature of the WCC, which will simply raise the
national prominence of the Cougars, while the PAC 12 won't do anything to help
save the Utes.
@Girlse State- I'll try using a typical BYU retort here: "Until
[BYU's basketball] team has a national championship trophy, the [U] will always
be the superior program." Obviously, that argument is greatly
flawed. Please remember it come football season.
I think BYU needs to jump out to a huge lead and then they need to rest Jimmer a
little bit. Teams are really trying to beat him up a little bit. I know he is
in the running for the College Player of the Year award but BYU needs to protect
him. If he goes down say good bye to a good seed in the Tourney!!!
Howie,Don't forget that we're also enjoying a pathetic yewt
basketball team, complete with 9 out of 10 losses to BYU, Division II colleges,
WCC colleges, and I heard even the Provo 138th ward in a scrimmage.
Hey, it's been great! But back to some basics:You "bigs"
(tho' you aren't really as big or strong or as athletic as other teams' big
guys) - Collinsworth, Hartsock, Abouo, Davies, Anderson, etc. - CRASH THE
OFFENSIVE GLASS EVERYTIME; don't take any shot (or anyone's - including Jimmer's
- shooting) for granted! Other teams are slowing down their pace, so you don't
have to hang back to guard against fast breaks. Follow your shot, get your own
rebound; half (or more) of our shots are missing the target. And box
out, box out, box out! I recognize it's harder when you're playing zone, but put
your body on someone - anyone - every time! You're the greatest group
I've seen since the early '60s, but "back to basics" still matters as
much as X's and O's.
The game this week at TCU will basically be a home game for the Cougs, as it has
been in years past.
Ditto on the @DEWCougars comment. You players have got to keep your heads and
work much harder. There is no time now for coasting or resting on your laurels.
The competition is going to get stronger, the defense from other teams more
stout, and if you are not progressing in your game, in your shot selection, in
your own defense, in your effort, and in your attack instinct, you can so easily
be swept away into oblivion and insignificance. It is the finish, not the
start, that determines greatness. Keep after it. Keep improving. Keep
pushing. Never let your foot off the gas until April 5 in Houston.
We fans are soaking up the fun as well...this is the "Golden Age" of
Things are usually much more fun for the Cougars until tournament time comes

People snickered up their sleeves when Emery was quoted as saying, "We
