Sad, sad day. I am a huge Jerry Sloan fan. HUGE! I cannot imagine what the Jazz are going to look like without him. I'm very, very disappointed! Jerry Sloan is the Utah Jazz.

Albany, NY

Deron William is most likely behind this trash and I do not like it. First he blows up our coaching staff, next we should look to him signing as a free agent with one of the high-marquee teams. Not good at all. O'Connor put these scrubs together, drafted Hayward, etc. He should get the axe.

Anyone reading the quotes from D-Will lately could figure out there was tension between them. I believe the tension grew into animosity and I'll bet anything there were talks of trading D-Will. One thing is certain: the Jazz will never be the same.

Why now and not and the end of the season? Disappointed in Jazz management. Sad day!

Tons of Respect for Jerry Sloan. Nobody was ever allowed to talk in my house while he was doing an interview. Good luck to him

So sad to see this old warhorse and icon have to go like this in the middle of the season. I cannot believe it...and believe it is a tragedy.

this is shocking and sad... hope they are melting the bronze for his statue overlooking Stockton's and Malone's

If Jerry wants to retire, I dont see him walking until the end of the year!! If he is forced out, I am done with the Jazz!!! After last night best point guard in the league my foot!!

Provo, UT

This is absurd. Maybe after the season it would have been good. Maybe it was about time for a change. But changing the head coach in the middle of the season. I hope I am wrong, but I think the Jazz can kiss the playoffs goodbye this season.

On another note, apparently D Will called Sloan's offense too restrictive? Well, it was not too restrictive for John Stockton. I used to respect D Will, but not anymore. I would not mind if they trade him. He is going to leave when his contract is up anyway. May as well get something for him.

The Jazz's problems are caused by one thing, and one thing only. Guaranteed contracts. It's time to bust the players "union" and make these overpaid schmucks actually earn their money by giving them year to year contracts. Boozer was the poster boy for that. Get rid of Kirelenko, Okur, and several others. Without guaranteed contracts, people would actually play. That's why the college game is so much better than the pro game. Go Jimmer.

Is this for reals? Seriously? I can't believe it. In the middle of the season??? Never thought it would end this way. Jerry has been the coach almost my entire life!

Sometimes I criticize his use of time outs and subs but Jerry is a GREAT coach and this is a sad day!

Santa Monica, CA

Unbelievable and unacceptable. I refuse to believe that Jerry Sloan would quit on his team during a playoff run. This is one of the greatest coaches the game has ever seen and one of the best coaching tandems ever. 95% of the NBA world calls this guy one of, if not--the best. Only a few x box playing haters would say anything different and even they would probably have not blamed Jerry for ANYTHING that has happened on the minus side this year. Look at the players we replaced this year! How could we have not expected to have major highs and lows (which has happened). Please please please, all sides--act like adults and reconsider this insane move. These guys are heroes in Utah.

I will miss Jerry. Utah was lucky to have him for so long. Its sad it ended like this. Alot of former NBA greats have said they would have loved to play for Jerry. Lots of respect. Hands down the toughest coach in the NBA. A couple of years ago Charles Barkly said Jerry was the toughest person on the Jazz team. Players are different now and maybe it is time. Players don't want to out "tough" there opponents like John and Karl did. Blood and guts. I think this group never totally bought into Jerry's system. It might be a good thing for this team? I can't say enough good about Coach Sloan. What a man, What a stud, What a legend. Were's the statue boys!!!

checking the bible....

Sloan retiring has been added as a sign of the apocalypse

Sandy, UT

Wow. I had a feeling something was going to change, but I didn't expect something so abrupt. I hope they do make a trade as well.

Jerry has been a great coach and it'll definitely be WEIRD not seeing him on the sidelines. He's one of the greatest coaches in the league, but you know, it was time for a change. I hope this will take us in the right direction.

Who do they get to replace him? I like Ty Corbin but would his coaching style be comparable to Jerry's? Fundamentals are necessary, but so is flexibility.

Wrong coach retired...

Layton, UT

Yep for sure its the coach's fault (sarcasm) Those multimillion dollar cry baby players have nothing to do with the losses, only the wins (sarcasm again)

It would be great if the NFL and the NBA had a lockout to teach these spoiled brats a lesson in humility. (no sarcasm intended)
