Sorry Charlie, USU had the #104th (of 120 schools) rated class. You can't give Anderson and his virtually successful program anything but an F.
For the past two seasons all the Utah papers have predicted the Uggies would win 8 and head for a bowl. I'm certain we'l see the same articles prior to the 2011 season kick-off. Please let me in on the secret: what does Anderson have on you guys?

Hill will grayshirt and then go on a mission. When he gets back, he could even redshirt making him a 22 year old freshman. He was well coached at Jordan and will have a better career than Kuresa or Nelson.

since Jordan's Mccoy Hill joined BYU isn't he in a bad position for QB. i mean BYU has Heaps then Nelson also Mr. football Kuresa, and last but not least Mccoy. It looks to me that that's gonna be a tough battle for him

    ucute

    You are absolutely correct sir.

Loyd was dismissed in April of 2010,

Here is a quote from a sltrib story later that year.

During Loyds redshirt season (2008-09), just hours after the Cougars lost 94-87 to nationally ranked Wake Forest on Jan. 3, 2009, Loyd really ran afoul of the law but in a different county.

The Las Vegas native was charged by police that night with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor in South Jordan, court records show.

You wanted proof, you got it.

    @ Ducky

Go check the police report in South Jordan for Michael Lloyd Jr. It happened way before he and byU parted ways too. Interesting.

The Langi kid chose the Utes to stay home and because there was a great opportunity to make an impact as a Freshman. Let's just leave it at that. To get all holier than thou will just bring out all the stuff swept under byU's "rug".

Saying an LDS kid didn't chose BYU because he wasn't worthy, or didn't want to live the honor code is ridiculous.

How judgemental and arrogant does one have to be to think the only reason a player doesn't chose the school is because they aren't worthy to go?

A decent recruiting class for both Utah and BYU.. They both got players they wanted and boosted their individual needs. BYU has a lot of returning missionaries that will fill out some needs.. the ratings don't consider that.

Let us not forget Utah has 5 additional players that are getting scholarships this year. I think some of you Y fans will recognize one of them for sure. Jake Murphy 4 star kid. I don't need to spin any of the Harvey stuff you guys are. If the kid could of got it at Stanford he could of got in at BYU give it a rest. Read the report again. He caved under pressure but the drug test was negative so he didn't use drugs. Don't think BYU doesn't have issues with normal kids doing normal kid stuff. Stuff happens to all of us. Give them a break and let's look at the positives we can all do; instead of the childish back and forth little man syndrome that is happening...

    @utahcountyute

Back that up. I personally think you are lying.

I am sure langi could have gotten in and I am also sure he didn't want to do what that entailed. After his pot bust BYU coaches told him what he would have to do and he obviously didn't want to do it. No different than Van Noy the previous year. He was told what it would take and chose to do it. langi obviously didn't want that and chose to go to utah where there aren't any sort of standards a kid is expected to live up to.

    Too late.

So Bassman, you like judging kids from your office chair? I'm sure

Don't say he would not have gotten into byu either. You remember Michael Lloyd Jr? Go read the police reports on him if you want perspective. There are others too.

    Bassman,
You do know that Mendenhall was only offered the BYU coaching job after Whittingham turned the job down? Don't make BYU fans look dumb please.

Would everybody please stop with the BYU loses out on Harvey Langi crap! BYU didn't miss on Harvey Langi, Harvey Langi missed on BYU because of poor choices.

From the Deseret News: "The Bingham running back, 18, is still suspended for one game for being charged by the South Jordan police with trespassing, meaning he'll miss this Saturday's 5A playoff game against Hunter. He won't, however, be suspended for the remainder of the season for originally admitting to smoking marijuana.

Langi and three of his friends were caught trespassing in a home under construction in South Jordan late on Sunday, Oct. 17. The officers smelled marijuana, and Langi and his friends admitted to smoking it. Drugs were never found and the individuals were only charged with trespassing."

Its a good thing he waited 10 whole days to take a drug test so the charge was only trespassing. If you can't live the honor code in high school how in the world would he live it at BYU. Again, Utah gets all the players that can't get into BYU. The list is long and wide. They also get the coaches BYU doesn't want.

As a Ute I think it is a good class! They will get better next year as they grow with the PAC 12

I think Byu did pretty well also, I hate to say it, but the Bingham kids they got as well as Mathews are going to be good.

I also think Utah State did a great job!

How do you think our ratings will affect how things play out on the field?

BYU did sign two DBs people. Sampson and Hadley are both capable of contributing. Other than Rich are safety play was atrocious last year so I'm glad we got both of them.

Also you have to remember a lot of these players are leaving on missions and a lot of missionaries are coming home so you need to remember who is coming home to get an accurate picture of who will be joining the team this year.

Plenty of good running backs, quarterbacks and receivers in the program right now.

Ok sorry Langi will be the best prize pick of the Utah crop and he will set and break every rushing recored ever by a mile up at the U. He will take the new PAC 12 by storm and demolish all comers. You all wait and see Heisman trophy for Langi and the U of U will have there day in the sun.

This is not how it will end, but it is what you want to hear.

BYU indicated their needs were Defensive Linemen and Linebackers. They recruited and got commitments from those types. They wanted Langi if he was interested but lost out.
Utah wanted Running backs and Wide receivers. They recruited and got commitments from those types. They wanted Ryker Matthews if he was interested but they lost out.
BYU had few scholarships to offer, but got what they wanted. They had no one de-commit.
Utah had many more to offer and got some of what they wanted. They had several de-commit.
Utah came out ranked on Rivals
BYU did not, but then it's a point ranking system based on number of scholarships you have to give and that biased the numbers. Add in four stars recruits like Adam Hine, Sorenson and others coming off missions and it was about even.
    Like always.

    So Tommy2shoes,
I guess you are also crowning the winner of the SEC conference as the national champ already for the '11 season. Nice reasoning.

  • Tommy2Shoes Lehi, UT
    Feb. 2, 2011 11:49 p.m.

Utah has to be compared to others in it's new conference. Therefore I give them a C+.

BYU has an average class for them so a C+

USU compared to their competition gets a B+

Stop measuring how we do against each other but who we play with.

All three schools must recruit better next year.

"BYU's biggest need was at linebacker"
What?! Dont BYU have like 4 freshman linebackers that played consistently plus a transfer from USC? I'm pretty aure DB's were the biggest immediate need..

I know we missed out on Langi, but I think this is the one year we can survive without any running back prospects. We have Quezada coming off a solid freshman season, Drew Phillips looking like he's loaded with potential and still have some experience with Kariya and DiLuigi.

I am much more concerned about the DB position - we needed something there, and we got nothing. Rich is graduated, and he was the star of the defense. Concerning.

This was a great year for Utah recruiting. Almost had a couple other great players, but we will be fine with the great athletes that we did sign.

Can't wait to see Langi running this coming season. He'll grow up quick with lots of opportunities this year.

    Go UTES!
