Let's go MUSS - show up!
Rank Team Rating High Low Last
2 BYU (15-1) 0.674 1 197 1
176 Utah (6-9) 0.492 84 257 173
Chris is right. It would be embarassing...
Probably closer to
BYU 78
Utah 50
BYU is going to win this next game, regardless of how much by, BYU is going to win.
Well, I dont see that happening Chris B, but, I also remember being at BYU when they went way up in the rankings (Michael Smith, Andy Toolson days); they did come crashing down then. I just hope they can keep it going, one game at a time.
70 might be the number of MUSS members who show up, but I fully expect 40 to 50 times 58 BYU fans at the HC tomorrow night.
Come on Utes. We just need to try harder. I have faith in Boylen. He is a rad coach. I just hope more players don't transfer this week.
The ranking is nice and Tues. should be a win if both teams play to their ability- but there is a reason the games are played- also rankings are nice but since basketball actually has a playoff- I will take seeding over ranking any day- right now if we are seeded as ranked life will be nice- but it is more likely we will be seeded with the same number we are curently ranked- that will not be nice
This ranking is a great indicator of how BYU is playing now. BYU's record validates their status as one of the elite programs in the country.
It's also nice to see so many of BYU's opponents receiving top 25 votes (most of which were road wins for the Cougars).
Keep up the impressive play, Cougars! It says a lot when the only thing critics can do is throw out wishful predictions.
I'm a U fan. but I'm not one of those who cheer for the U and "any team that plays the Y". I realize that other than the U - BYU game itself, what's good for the Y is good for the state of Utah and the conference and the U. so go BYU! if this isn't the U's year in basketball, then here's hoping the Y can carry the state and conference to the final four.

They certainly are playing like an elite program. I'm loving it. That said, let us develop a consistent track record in basketball before we start calling ourselves elite. I just don't think we are there yet.
Isn't this ranking marvelous? Look out Duke.
Polls don't matter. The mwc champ is the most important right now. Those polls, rpi, sos yada yada will take place later who and where will be playing at.
Go COUGARS and BYU fans go buy tickets for tomorrow night game.
@merich39:
You're a class guy. I'm a Cougar.
Like I have said before, when Utah was down in San Jose playing in the West Regionals years ago I was there in person wearing a Utah t-shirt rooting for VanHorn, Doleac, Andre Miller, and the boys.
Tomorrow night I will be pulling for the Cougars.
(Don't say anything to Chris B or hedgehog)
Encouraging the "MUFF" . . . or "MUSS" to show up to the rivalry game exudes endless confidence in your team's fans.
Chris B, Me and some of the guys would love to meet you sometime . . .
Rankings come and rankings go, but for the time being, it's great to see BYU's name all over national basketball headlines!
Grats Cougs! Really looking forward to the game on Jan. 26!!

Just keep winning, Cougars, and the national accolades will take care of themselves.
It's pretty telling when the team on the hill has to encourage its "mighty" student section to show up for BYU.
The Cougars drew 22,700 for Air Force.
The Utes couldn't get 6,000 to show up for SDSU.
I probably think this rating is mostly the result of BYU having pretty good seasons overall. I would probably put them around 15-20 to be honest because I don't believe in a team that relies so heavily on just one player.
But the record speaks for itself. As much as I hate seeing this type of ranking for BYU, I do have to say, the ranking is justified, in my opinion, just a few spots too high.
Cougar fan here, and pretty much think Chris B is almost always wrong. He's got a track record Hamilton Berger would be proud of. (you youngsters better google it)
But that's beside the point. I've watched Utah this year and they have good athletes. Bad coaching, but good players. That's why I think anything could happen in this game.
I've watched BYU a long, long time including having higher-ranked teams than this one. One thing they cannot do, and are almost never good enough to do, is take the night off. Some teams have the raw talent level such that they can coast much of the time and still pull out the "W". I don't think that's the case with BYU. They have to come out with intensity and put this thing away early. Go cougars.

Polls are opinions and we all know what opinions are like.
I'm more impressed with our RPI of 2, our Sagarin of 4 and our Kenpom of 12. No bias in these, just the facts.
Looking forward to my first trip to the HC and more exciting BYU basketball.
BYU losing to a deadbeat team would be a massive upset and not representative of either teams' talent. If you really think it will happen, you're the kind of person who thinks a lottery ticket is a good investment for your pension plan.
