Go Frogs! Show the non-AQ naysayers how it's done!

As a BYU alum, I know I should be rooting for TCU as the banner-carrier for all non-AQ schools. But I just can't, because of Gary Patterson.

I have great respect for what both TCU and Utah have accomplished in the last several years. They have had much greater recent success than has BYU. However, we all stand on the shoulders of those who blazed the trail before us, and for TCU, one of the main trailblazers was BYU. BYU's 30 years of success helped make the MWC the strongest non-AQ conference in the BCS era, and the invitation to the MWC helped make TCU what they are today. Gary Patterson has repeatedly refused to recognize this, choosing instead to disrespect BYU and downplay its historic role among the smaller conferences. Patterson deserves great credit for what he has done, but it is foolish not to recognize those who helped pave the way.

cynic, grow up and get over it. BYU is not the most important team in the world. Get a life!

I hope the Frog do well and win. These kids have worked hard, there coach is top notch and have put together a season that they can be very proud of.
they have finished higher than any other non-BCS school (that includes Utah cynic who did blaze the trail to the BCS not BYU).

Good luck Frog this Utah fan will be chearing for you!

Cynic,

While your loyalty to BYU is admirable your glasses are a little bit too deep of a shade of blue. Looking back over the last thirty years BYU has not been a powerful bowl team. The team did have success in the early eighties when the Holiday was still a relatively minor bowl and has had recent success in the Las Vegas bowl but overall we have a losing record in bowl games over the last thirty years.

Yes the Cotton Bowl win was significant and no one was cheering louder than I at the 1984 Holiday bowl but I feel that it is time to let go of this perception that BYU was a pioneer in BCS busting. The fact is the Boise has done twice, TCU has done twice, Hawaii once and yes, our rival has done twice what BYU has not done. Can we not just accept that?

One day we will, I have no doubt but for now let's not ask for credit where it is questionably due. As for me at 2:00 I'll be on my couch, in my blue and yelling as loudly as I can, "GO FROGS!"

I will be rooting for TCU today! Gary Patterson is an outstanding coach! Has built the TCU football program into a powerhouse and will only get stronger and better with his recruiting philosophy. Coach Peterson has done the same thing at Boise St. Both are phenomenal non-AQ head coaches. I can't wait for the TCU game. I hope they can pull it out even though they are slightly favored to win anyway.

It will prove to the BCS that the non-AQs are a force to be reckoned with and they can't ignore us any longer! At least TCU can prove what Boise St, and Utah can do before both leave the MWC for BCS conferences.

As a Ute fan, go FROGS!

@cynic, its true. There are plenty of Yning BYU fans out there that don't do the cause any favors (I certainly don't want to come across as one), and it would definitely help if the BYU put up an undefeated season. But these things we know:

If TCU were undefeated in 1984, they would be locked into the Holiday Bowl.
If TCU were undefeated in 1996, they would have gone to the Cotton Bowl.
If TCU were undefeated in 1998 (as Tulane was), I don't know where they would have gone, but it wouldn't have been a BCS bowl.

Final fact: the first time that a non-AQ team played in a BCS bowl was also the first time that a non-AQ team was required to be invited to a BCS bowl. As you pointed out, those requirements were put in place after decades of snubs. No requirement, no invite, period.

I, for one, will be cheering TCU on. I think they are a really cool school with a strong all-around athletic program, and I like to see the "big boys" get taken to the woodshed.

Gary Patterson said, "If you think being an independent is an easier way to get to a national championship, you're kidding yourself."

That's not disrespect. It's common sense.

Go TCU! The better you do today, the better Utah and BYU look today (some fans don't get that).

May the best team win. Both teams have worked very hard to get here. May the players on both teams do their best, and regardless of the outcome, enjoy the experience.
