It was a good year, but with one major flaw. Utah will miss you, Ed.

I am so happy to hear about this. Classical music is such a wonderful addition to my life and I am happy that it is touching the lives of many others. We are so lucky to live in a place that has so much talent.

Its nice to be reminded of what great music can still be heard right in our back yard! I was disappointed to miss out on Bruckner's 9th and some of Utah Symphony's other great modern works, but the University Opera performances were truly captivating. We are blessed to have these dedicated performers continue the legacy of quality performing art for the next generation.

SLC truly holds many gems for the classical music fan. The productions and concerts held here are of a very high quality. The concerts and productions up at the U show off emerging talent from our own world-class students and faculty. I hope the Deseret News will see to it that coverage continues for this. It is a special stamp for our city.

Thank you Ed for this thoughtful and inspiring article. Part of what makes Utah so wonderful is knowing that there are events like this happening and having someone as skilled and insightful as you writing about them in the Deseret News!

Utah is indeed a wonderful place for classical music, both inside and out of the university setting. Let's keep working together on broadening our audience base!

Nice round up Ed. As a new SLC transplant, I have been impressed with the music quality and offerings here, from day one. And I agree, not having your voice to talk about these great events is just not right! Thank you for all your contributions to the Arts in Salt Lake City!

It is so wonderful to have such talented locals on an international, professional level, notably the students and staff at the U as demonstrated this year! The broadening of classical music innovations in our communities is exciting. All great cities leave their mark with fine art, and hold the fine arts as an essential depiction of their cities. I hope our mark in the world of fine arts won't dwindle, but become more recognized, locally, nationally, and internationally. A powerful tool is the power of the press and the exposure it brings to our local classical music.
Thank you, Ed, in your efforts to not let this infamous quote of Barber's to ensue:
"How awful that the artist has become nothing but the after-dinner mint of society".

I've loved each opportunity I've had this year to experience great, well-performed classical music, and look forward to many more next year. I don't know who to thank -- or where to start even if I DID know to whom the gratitude should be expressed -- for the great programs, but I hope that each and every person responsible know how much I appreciate their efforts.

What a wonderful summary of Utah's classical music year. We truly have some amazingly talented classical performers in little ole Utah :)

I don't think many people realize what world-class talent we have right here in Utah! I really enjoyed this reminder. Without coverage in forums like this, it would be hard to draw such high quality musicians. Thanks Ed!

We are very lucky to live in a city which provides such high quality classical music performances. This was an exciting year for The Utah Symphony, Utah Opera, and The University of Utah Lyric Opera Ensemble. I hope 2011 will bring another year of strong support for these arts organizations from community members. BRAVI TUTTI!!!!
