The big difference in these two programs is that BSU is not an overrated pretender!
The biggest difference will come later tonight when Boise ends the season with a win, and Utah is exposed as the pretender that they have been all season.
His statement at the end that inferred that Utah is superior because they were invited to a BCS conference and BSU wasn't is idiotic. It has nothing to do with the program and everything to do with the TV market. Salt Lake is a much better TV market compared to Boise just like BSU is a much better team when compared to Utah.
No, Rock, here's where the two teams are the most different:
BSU -- underrated
U of U -- overrated.
Utah didn't get invited to the PAC 10 because their program is better. The reason is what it always comes down to; MONEY !!!
Utah as pretenders... like when they pretend beat BYU this year? I guess 7-6 isn't pretend, is it?
sfo: Last time I checked the article was comparing BSU and Utah. What does their win over BYU have to do with it?
Talk, talk talk. Let the boys on the field decide. Then let the loser just be quiet.
Are BYU fans really calling this Ute team overrated and pretenders?
Let me remind you that in 2008...
1) BYU was picked to with the MWC, the 2010 Utah was not
2) BYU was picked to be the next BCS buster, in 2010 it was Boise and TCU
3) BYU printed 50,000 "Perfection" t-shirts in the preseason, in 2010 Utah did no such thing at 8-0
With all that hype...
0-12 Washington 27
10-3 BYU 28
7-6 CSU 42
BYU 45
TCU 31
BYU 7
Utah 48
BYU 24
#50 7-5 Arizona 31
#16 10-2 BYU 21
So, if this 10-2 Ute is overrated then what was BYUs 2008 team?
As far as Boise goes, they're no different then BYU playing in the WAC. Like BYU they dominated the WAC as a one team conference.
Utetology
Just as the BYU team in 2008 was stunned to lose bad at home to TCU, so was Utah. I think that BYU team underacheived after the loss to TCU. Losing to Arizona was a bad way to end the season. However, 10-3 is 10-3 and most teams would love it. Utah 2010 is no better than BYU 2008 so I agree with you there.
I don't like comparing teams that have not played each other yet; seems kind of silly to me. If BSU wins tonight then they can say that they were the better team this night and the same goes for Utah. Lets just hope that the game is well played, officiated, and coached and when it is all over we can be gracious in victory or defeat.
Another difference between Utah & Boise State: Boise State has won all the head to head meetings. You can measure conference, NFL players, coaches, style and all that, but on the field Boise has been superior in the all the head to head games. Enough said.
