    "Those are some nice excuses."

It's much easier to explain a closer than expected WIN on the road against an instate rival, than to explain all of those ugly Utah home LOSSES to teams like SW Baptist, Seattle, and Oral Roberts.

PG transferring from the PAC-12 UCLA to a Utah school? But BYU?

    Not Utah?

I thought PAC-12 membership meant Utah would get all the recruits...

It's funny how Utah fans like to argue that Utah's past history in basketball is relevant to future success, but Utah's past history in football is irrelevant.

Isn't it just as likely that Utah's recent football success is simply a brief spike from mediocrity; and Utah's recent basketball success is a brief dip from excellence?

Unlike BYU, which has had good success in both sports the last 6 years (never worse than 3rd in the conference in football or basketball), it's looking more and more like Utah traded basketball success for football success.

I think everyone needs to take a chill pill. This is basketball, EVERY team has off nights during a season. Even if the cougs had lost last night, it would not have been the end of the world.

Kudos to Rahe and his players. They play hard. But Jimmer is still Jimmer. And Chris Collinsworth looked like he's getting his legs back. Here's hoping Jackson Emery finds his shot before the Cougs go to Vegas. I notice that UNLV beat #11 Kansas State on the road last night. The Rebels and Aztecs are looking pretty tough, as expected. BYU will have its hands full in conference play.

    Those are some nice excuses.

I especially like the whole 8 wins away from the Marriot Center. I know you meant to say that 2 of those games were at EAS in their backyard. Right? Nice spin.

You seem to know alot about Utah Basketball history and the expectations we put on our program. That's good because it won't be long before you will be back on the bandwagon for Utah Basketball just like every other byu fan that has not seen a sweet 16 in 30 years.

byu has a good chance this year to do it, but history says that Utah will be back to the sweet 16 before byu.

OK, lets just summarize last night and be done with it. BYU did not shoot well and many shots were hurried. lack of patience. Hoping that Emery can get his shot back soon and we need healthy Hartsock and Collinsworth for conference play. Weber played very well and hit some really nice treys in 2nd half. Jimmer is still the best! he does it every dang night. His off nights are what almost everyone else dreams of having once a year. We'll beat UTEP in MAC tomorrow night and then get ready for UNLV, who will be very difficult. MWC has at least 3 really good teams, maybe 4 (UNM) but rest of league looks to completely suck.

    BYU 11-1 #23/#23 RPI #6

    Utah 7-3 unranked RPI #94
(including a win over Div II Grand Canyon)

Utah played Weber State at home and never lead by more than 7 points until the 2nd half.

BYU played Weber State on the road and lead by as many as 17 points in the 1st half. A barrage of 3-pointers late in the 2nd half pulled the Wildcats within 4 points late in the game, but BYU answered and won the game.

BYU has played 8 straight games away from the Marriott Center, and yet with injuries to several key players, BYU is 11-1.

Now, would you like to explain how Utah lost to Oral Roberts(4-7) 70-78 AT HOME?

Of course, this is what we've come to expect of the Utes since Majerus left. Occassionally, the Utes will play a good game against a good team, but every year they'll lose at least one home game to Seattle, or SW Baptist, or Oral Roberts.

The fact that Utah fans have to resort to using other teams to talk smack just shows how low the Utah basketball program has sunk.

No U fan should be commenting on a BYU game until you can beat Oral Roberts at home. The MWC is going to be very tough this year.

Congratulations to Coach Rose and the team for another win. Interesting that some red-clad folks don't seem to realize that you won.... Keep those W's coming.

"After the win, Rose admitted that his team looked fatigued at times on defense. The game was BYU's eighth-straight away from the Marriott Center. They return to their home court on Thursday to face UTEP."

Admittedly, two games were at the ESA, but traveling and going 7-1...

Losing to the Bruins in So. Cal, to UCLA at the Wooden Classic, when UCLA dedicated the game to Coach Wooden, who passed last June, and is family...

    I can live with it.

Bring on the MWC. There are other ranked teams, and only one real cupcake (Boylen's group)...

    @ Tommy
Really neither team looked good. That's how Weber State plays, inside-out, they are the Orlando Magic of Utah collage teams. They win from the 3 point line. I'd say for a Big Sky Weber State team playing a 23rd ranked BYU team they played pretty good.... Let's give a little credit where it's due.

Neither team looked very good last night. But for some very hot shooting of 3s the Wildcats looked very tame. The Cougs had a very below par shooting night. Glad to see C Coll back in the game playing better. See you all Thurs night.

    @Yferlifer and any other interested...

Just thought you might want to know that Utah beat Weber by 15 and Lillard had 28 pts. Weber at 100%, and byu would have lost.

I think that MWC play is going to open the eyes of many byu fans that think their team is the bomb. Jimmer is a great player but you can only make so many off balance 3's to keep your team in the game.

BYU escaped with a win at Weber State? You must be kidding....you guys thinking they should be ranked...preposterous.

  • Wildcat Ogden, UT
    Dec. 22, 2010 9:27 a.m.

I went to the game last night, and after seeing Jimmer in person, there is no comparison: Lillard is a much better and complete player! Jimmer isn't shy about shooting--even when he is off his game. Still injuries are apart of the game, so hats off to BYU for the win. Any time you can get a win on the road in basketball is a good thing, and if you check Weber State's home record through history, you will see it is a tough place to get a win for the road team, so it is a big deal to win in Ogden.

I think the result would have been different had Lillard played. It was a lucky break for BYU to catch Weber State after the Lillard injury, kind of like facing the Bulls without Jordan--but those are the breaks.

I didn't know if WSU would be able to compete without Lillard, but they have no quit in them and look like they will be able to contend for the Big Sky if they play like they did last night! Keep it up and GO WILDCATS!

A Six point win to a team that had there best player out. Not a good showing by the cougars regardless of what fan base you come from. Utep is not a bad team and if BYU plays the way they have the last two games could lose at home tomorrow night. Early in the year the team looked like a sweet 16 team. The last week they have looked like a one win team and done!

Poor Mid West Ute. Your team stinks so bad that you actually have to depend on other MWC teams to hope for a win against BYU. Poor little Utes. You had your "thud-whack" in the first 3 games of the season.

Interesting reality for an "elite" Pac-12 team...

UNLV just knocked off K-State(rank #11), and SDSU is going great ....wait cougieeees, the thud-whack is coming in MWC!!!!

Went to the game last night and Weber played a really good game even without there best player and just like BYU they too have starters that are gettin back from injury. Weber mixed up playing man and then to a zone that looked very good. Got to hand it to both teams, both played a great game.

Coach Rose the Weber defense had something to do with your teams poor shooting. You have to hand it to Weber they loose their best player and have several others that are not 100%. I'd say this that when you had them down they came back on you so give credit that Weber is a pretty darn good young, yes young players that are getting better annd better. They shot the ball poorly also, not just your team. So GoooooooooooWILDCATS!

Yes, Weber's best player was out. But if you follow BYU basketball, you know that BYU has several players that have been out or slowed down due to injury, including 3 of 5 starters.

Hopefully BYU can learn from this game. They have a long way to go before they can punch their ticket to the dance.

Didn't Weber lose their best player to injury earlier this year?

Are those he same wagons WYO uses to get to their games? From the looks of it, WYO doesn't even show up.
