I say it again and all sayers feel free to attack me, but true blooded UTAH Man says "UTAH by 5!"

Even though I'm a life-long BYU fan, I'm delighted for Coach Whit and the Ute players.

I'm even more delighted at the pain and anguish this must be causing all the (BYU) Haters who waxed so eloquent when the U was invited to join the PAC-10 and BYU was left behind to suffer with the LasVegas Bowl. Hedge, ChrisB et.al. must be wearing paper bags over their heads over this LV Bowl invite.

Cheer up Haters, with BYU signing an agreement with two california bowls, a late (post) season BYU - Utah game is more likely. Isn't irony wonderful!!

Observationalist,

Not really, this is what you get for playing in a non BCS conference and not going undefeated. 10-2 next year will get the Utes to a New Years day bowl.

TDS 2011 fate will be sealed by mid September. Doesn't matter how good you are ( i.e BSU), if you lose on game - it's Kraft Hunger bowl for you.

Enjoy the new reality....should have stayed in the MWC.

I actually think the XPat prediction above is blue tainted a bit. I would expect the Utes to finish in the 3-4 range in the South and maybe a 5 in the overall PAC 12 with an occasional top 3 finish. Would be great to see them in a Rose Bowl in the next 5 years but the road to a BCS game will be a lot tougher than it has been for the last several years.
HedgeHog; Yes, BYU will be in the KFH bowl as you mentioned unless they are undefeated. How many other teams in the country already have their bowl invites for the next 2 years? BYU is a nationally relevant team with more fans outside of Utah than the TUN has in state. Bowls are eager to get them there. This is not a new reality. Every team with BCS aspirations fate can be sealed by Mid-September, but thank you for pointing out that BYU, even as an independant, has just as good a shot at a BCS game as any other school in the country.

Should be fun in Vegas - soon to be on our way. Nice of Petersen to say what he did...but, the hill is large to climb for the Utes. We can do it -

As for all the predictions of the Utes in the PAC - again, we'll see. Recruiting will be different (better) - and as for Utah's history with ASU well, much has changed there as well...Utah is a much better program since ASU was in the WAC.

BYU will have a tough time in Indy as well. Should be fun to see the overall tide of Football in Utah rise.

TJ, how many of those out of state and in state fans showed up in New Mexico? I think this finally proves the point that the "fans" are really just church members who think it might be fun to go see the church team play IF the church team has a good match up. I have a feeling that next year the attendance numbers will be dropping at LES. Utah (might sell out) Central Florida, Utah State, San Jose St, Idaho St, Idaho and New Mexico State. But at least adding all of the worst WAC teams should make them bowl eligible.

Utesforlife --

Not true. Fact is, my husband drove 4 hours down to the basketball game on Saturday. We would have LOVED to go to New Mexico, but it's a 14 hour drive at best from here. It's a 10 hour (at best) drive for you and airline ticket prices made that prohibitive for most. It was held 1 week before Christmas, after all. However, if BYU plays anywhere in Cali, look for a big Cougar turn-out. As far as LES goes, I flew to Utah from Fresno just to see a home game this year.

You might want to stick with things you know -- like your team, for instance. You honestly do not understand what we Cougars are about.

Having said that, good luck to Kyle and the Utes in Vegas. Represent the state well and the Mountain West well.
