    Re Blue:

57% of byu's bowl game opponents ended their season ranked, while 43% of Utah's bowl game opponents finished the season ranked, that's after the bowl games. However byu has only won 36% of its bowl games while Utah has won 75% of theirs.

Those 2 sets of numbers are directly related to each other, allow me to explain. Again.

Only 25% of Utah's opponents moved up in the polls after they played Utah in a bowl game, conversely 75% of the teams Utah played dropped in the final polls, while 64% of byu's opponents moved up in the final polls.

Translation: You are more likely to play a team that is ranked in the final polls if you loose your bowl game.

This is not "fairy tale spin", this is simple math and and sound reasoning.

"One factor that BYU fans conveniently seem to forget is that the reason Utah has apparently played less ranked teams than BYU in bowl games is because the teams that Utah has played ended their season with a loss, while the reverse is true for BYU."

Typical Utah fairy tale spin, but final records and rankings are just that, FINAL!

The reality is Utah has only beaten TWO bowl opponents in their entire history that finished the season ranked in both polls and most of Utah's bowl opponents wouldn't have finished ranked even if the Utes had lost every one of their bowl games.

    Final AP/Coaches, Team, W/L, Pre-bowl AP rank

    #15/#17 Washington State(9-3) Won #18
    ur/#25 USC(8-5) Won unranked
    #20/#20 Arizona(8-4) Lost #15
    #25/ur Pittsburgh(8-4) Lost #19
    ur/ur Georgia Tech(7-5) Lost #24
    #6/#6 Alabama(12-2) Lost #4

The Las Vegas Bowl will be Utah's 16th bowl, and Boise State is only Utah's fourth bowl opponent ranked in both polls.

BYU has played SIXTEEN bowl opponents ranked in both polls.

Yeah ... We've been good long enough to have been invited to twice as many..... You'll get there ... someday.

When you win a bowl game it's much less likely that the team you played will finish the season ranked. It's very simple reasoning yet apparently elusive.

    Re Fresno girl:

I love how BYU has played in twice as many bowl games as the Utes, yet Utah has more bowl victories. Your right, we're not comparing apples to apples.

Just like the 8-0 cupcake start to this season, Utah has a history of beating cupcakes in bowls.

BYU has played more ranked teams in bowls, than Utah has played bowls.

We'll find out soon enough if that Utah "bowl winning DNA" includes beating a team as good and as highly motivated as Boise State.

I can't believe how dumb most of this squabbling is!

BYU played a more challenging schedule than Utah. They also lost 4 more times than the Utes.

BYU should have won in RES. But Utah, with some help from a really bad call, found a way to win.

After twelve games, I still don't know how good Utah is. They clearly weren't worthy of a top 10 ranking. I think their current ranking is reasonable. Remember, Ute-haters, sports-writers, football coaches, and the computers all think they deserve a Top 25 ranking, not just a group of Utah Homers.

BSU will be big favorites in the Las Vegas Bowl. I have every reason to conceed that they are much better than the Utes. And Boise has always been able to get motivated to play Utah, and considering the current circumstances, I don't see this game being any different. BUT, if Utah plays very well, they can still beat the Broncos.

BYU made great strides in progressing from an uncharacteristically bad first month of the season. They should be able to use that as a springboard for success in 2011.

    Good luck in Albuquerque, Cougars.

By my count, that's 14 bowl games for U and 28 for the Y. When you double your number of bowl games, then maybe you can compare apples to apples.

Besides, isn't this an article about your team playing Boise? Did you even read it?

    The real truth is...

    1) Utah 17 BYU 16

    2) BYU is 1-5 against teams with a winning record

    3) BYU has not scored 17+ points on the road all year against teams with 4 or more wins

Utah has only played 2 ranked teams this year. TCU and Air Force. BYU has played 5. And 4 of them are in the top 20 now. Their only home game loss was to Nevada who finished the season at 15.

Utah is 11-3 all time in bowl games, BYU is 10-17-1. Utah has a 9 game bowl winning streak.

Unlike BYU, Utah has winning bowl games in our DNA, it's what we do.

BYU fans: Enjoy your 6-6 bowl while we extend our 9 game winning streak over a ranked team on our way to the PAC 12.

As a very classy Y fan I will cheer for the U in this game.

Here is a little newsflash for some of U ... a Y fan commenting on the U bowl game doesn't mean that we are more interested in your game than our own.

It also doesn't make the Y fan a hater if they believe that the U will lose. (Be honest, doesn't everyone?)

While the Y game isn't of any interest to anyone except Y fans and Utep fans, it is still of great interest to us. We suffered through a difficult season but have a team on the rise and are excited about the unknown and unpredictable future.

The U game is of interest for a different reason to me. The U appears to be in collapse after an impressive start to the season. I'll be watching to see if Bro. W can turn it around.

While most Y fans will be cheering for a U disaster, there will be many hoping U win.

I'll be interested to see how supportive the U fans will be of the Y. Not so much, I expect.

Count-on BYU killing them next year. Count on it. Yewtes should have beat them by 21 this year, but their hearts were buried in mud after the drubbing by TCU. "The real truth is Utah's offense has stunk ever since Utah stopped playing cupcakes."

Not true. The offense was great @AFA and @SDSU, its just that the defense was MIA.

The defense played good against BYU but the offense was MIA.

Both were MIA against TCU and @ND.

Which comes back to my original point, if Utah wants to win they must play both sides of the ball.

    The real truth is...

    1) Utah 17 BYU 16

"Dude, Utah is a 19-21 ranked team in the country. Why? Well according to all polls that matter they are a top 25 team."

That beat a 6-5 team with a freshman QB at home, on a blocked FG?

If they are top-twenty-five, then BYU is too...

And BYU is not that good this year.

    Neither is ND...

Utah is still not the 19th best team in the country on their best day, in their best game.

So, dream on, and talk about bringing their offense, or defense, but the reality is the team is a good team, but not great.

BSU is a "Very Good" team, that doesn't need to make sure they "bring" O or D...

They will just show up and play.

I want Utah to win, but you put these selective objectives on the game... "Bring the offense or defense"...

Call it as you see it.

Are they in the top twenty best teams in the country?

Let me know if "Uteology" thinks they are deserving of the rank....

Against TCU, the toughest team on both team's schedules, BYU's defense performed better on the road, than Utah's defense performed at home.

Spinning BYU's improved defense as simply being a product of an easier schedule doesn't hold water when comparing BYU's and Utah's defensive performances against TCU.

This game will make UU fans understand what it will be like for their team in the new PAC 12. Is Boise overrated? Of course. Are they "PAC 12-Caliber" on the field? Most definitely.

Utah will not win unless they raise their level of play. Effort like the Pitt, ISU and AF games will not do it. They will have to keep it close for BSU does not a great run defense -- Nevada had their way with them.

Wynns injury for this game may be what the Utes need to keep it close. Cain will make things interesting.

However, if BSU comes in with a "chip on its shoulder" regarding a season that could have been, Boise will stomp on the UU. The best for the Utes to hope for at this point is that the Broncos come in with a "Alabama-Sugar Bowl-type" malaise.

My prediction is that despite all the talk about give Whitt and his staff a month, that the talent gap is too wide. BSU will end the Us bowl winning streak and they will cautiously enter into the PAC 12 wondering if more of the same is ultimately in store.

The real truth is Utah's offense has stunk ever since Utah stopped playing cupcakes.

Which raises the real issue of whether Utah ever had a good offense to begin with, or was the competition simply that bad?

BYU shut down Utah's offense. Period!

Except for a bunch of lucky breaks, the Utes could very easily have been shut out.

  • UtahBronco Lehi, UT

While I sincerely hope that the Broncos crush Utah, as a fan I certainly would not predict it. No doubt BSU players and coaches have great respect for Utah. Most BSU fans do too. The Broncos may still have some hangover from the Nevada loss. I would expect the more motivated team to win this game. BSU still looks at itself as the "little guy" and Utah as the establishment program (going to PAC 12). If the Broncos come out focused with the characteristic chip on it's shoulder, then look out! However, anything can happen. As it has been said, that is why they play the game.

I plan on watching this game...At least it's not rated 35th of the 35 bowl games scheduled for this season. They may as well call BYU's game with UTEP just a reunion pick up game. I tend to think of it more as a practice game...not for the players actually...they realistically do have some promise and some genuine talent. No...it's more of a last hope practice for Robert Anae.... Hopefully to see if he can remotely come up with anything better than his already limited mediocre list of plays. Gee's I hope we don't have to go another year with this guy running the offense. They should seriously be looking for someone who understands multiple crossing routes and when to go on 4th and inches. This guy has trouble taking a knee at the proper time. Wake Up BYU...The Time is way overripe
What a joke these bowl games have become...they can go ahead and play 35 bowl games pulling barely eligible teams together and give them thousands of dollars... but they can't devise a simple play off system for the top 8-10 teams in the country.

...that is different than every year how?

    The BCS is a joke.

They had Orrin Hatch on during the Georgetown game commenting on how it is an anti-trust issue.

The proof is in un-ranked Conn getting in a game ahead of BSU.

They can rationalize away much of the BCS reasoning as they want, the fact that with an overtime loss BSU is out, and VT and Conn are playing and swallowing all the money.

It's proof that the BCS has nothing to do with the quality of the play, rather keeping all the money within the group of BCS teams.

The BCS "era" is a farce, as evidenced by the snubbing of BSU, and will go down in history with a well deserved astrisk.

I do not care for the utes style of play (which is to start playing in the 3rd or 4th quarter in hopes the other team self destructs in the first half). The utes coaching staff says they "don't know why we" start so slow----they know ---- and--approve of an ugly-- conservative-- style--afraid-- to-- take-- any --chances-- and--play-- so-- tight-- and-- mistake-- free that they just sit back and wait for a team to beat themselves. Uteology has the mistaken belief that preparation and motivation are the only things Utah needs to beat Boise State.

Where's the critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each team?

    Passing Efficiency
    #1 Cam Newton 188.16
    #2 Kellen Moore 185.04
#35 Jordan Wynn 139.85 (Wynn was Utah's best passer)
u/r Terrance Cain (not enough passes to be ranked)

    Passing Offense
    #6 Boise State 319.42
    #37 Utah 248.00

    Scoring Offense
    #2 Boise State 46.67
    #18 Utah 35.58

    Total Offense
    #4 Boise State 519.50
    #42 Utah 404.75

    Passing Defense
    #3 Boise State 155.75
    #59 Utah 215.50

    Passing Efficiency Defense
    #3 Boise State 96.68
    #82 Utah 134.89

    Scoring Defense
    #4 Boise State 13.58
    #19 Utah 19.83

    Total Defense
    #1 TCU 215.42
    #4 Boise State 259.25
    #20 Utah 319.67
    #33 BYU 339.00

    Turnover Margin
    #19 Boise State +.75
    #66 Utah -.17

Remember how BYU's defense shut down Utah's offense? Well, Boise State's defense is MUCH better, on PAR with TCU.

    What they're really thinking:

"there goes our bowl winning streak, I just hope we don't get totally embarrassed like we did against TCU"

I doubt there are any BYU fans who are actually "excited" about the Utah-BSU game. A more accurate description would be mildly curious to see whether the Ute's bowl winning streak is simply a product of weak competition (like the first half of this season), or whether the Utes really play well in bowl games.

I for one am excited that the Utes get to play a quality opponent. I'll be heading to the game to watch them play.

I don't think their odds to win are very good, but the Utes have surprised big time opponents as underdogs before! Regardless, I'll be going to the game and having a good time.

To all the cougar fans who are more excited about this game than your own bowl game, well, who can blame you? Once again, Utah has beat out BYU on the national stage and is garnering more attention. I guess if you can't be excited about your own team's success, why not do your best to diminish what your rival is doing? At least then you feel a little bit better, maybe...

    GO UTES!

I think the MWC will go 4-1 in it's bowl games with the lone loss being....I think you can guess.

Honestly how are Virginia Tech and UConn in BCS bowls and Boise State not? What a farce. Automatic qualifying conferences is the biggest joke ever.

Good luck to the Utes playing BSU. They are going to need it.

Wow. The MWC really pulled some good stuff for their teams:

TCU in the ROSE against Wisconsin. Outside of the NC, that is the most prestegious bowl.

Utah gets Boise State, a team that was in the running for the NC for the whole year, in the Vegas Bowl.

SDSU gets to play in it's home stadium against local favorite Navy with their large base. Congrats.

AFA gets GA Tech in a battle of triple-threat option attacks. nice.

BYU, 6-6 from the MWC, gets former WAC foe UTEP 6-6 from C-USA, in the NM bowl.

Pretty good set-up. Now all they have to do is complete.

Boise should beat Utah. But college football can be crazy.

Here's hoping insanity reigns in Vegas, baby!

    Go Utes!

"Utah disappointed against both TCU ...and ND at ND"

More appropriate descriptions would be, the Utes were "crushed, embarrassed, humiliated" against TCU... and "dominated" at ND.

BSU is one missed FG away from replacing TCU in the Rose Bowl.

The only real question here is whether the Utes will be able to hang close enough to the Broncos to finish in the Top 25 with a loss.

Staying within 14 points of the Broncos should keep the Utes in the Top 25.

A 21-point loss, or worse, will drop the Utes out of the final rankings.

Utah, simply doesn't have an offense capable of keeping pace with Boise State, and Kellen Moore will shred Utah's weak pass defense.

It's humorous how irritated Utah fans get about BYU fans commenting on the Utah-BSU, especially when we all know that the first thing those same Utah fans will be doing if Utah manages to pull a miraculous upset, is unleashing a torrent of smack at BYU.

TCU beat Oregon State by 9 and they deserve to be in a nationl championship, but BSU beat OSU by 13 and stinks? Sounds like a double standard to me. I think Utah will be similarly overmatched with BSU like they were with TCU.

If BSU is motivated Utah won't have a chance to win the game. Could look a lot like the last time BSU played Utah. Remember that 36-3 rout? This BSU team is a lot like that one, except better.

To give you a glimmer of hope, BSU lost a Hawaii bowl to East Carolina a few years back. BSU had no business losing the game, but showed up very unprepared or at least unfocused.

This is a match up we're likely to see often in the Las Vegas bowl in the coming years!

Boise State will win the MWC most future years and go to where? Of course, the Las Vegas bowl.

Utes will finish in the 4/5 position in the PAC 12 most future years and go to where? Of course the Las Vegas bowl.

Hope you two like each other; you'll see lots of each other. I'll cheer for the Utes, but it won't be a contest this year. BSU is a legit Top 10 team (so is Nevada). Utes should not even be in the Top 25.

  • redfeather Palo Alto, CA
    Dec. 6, 2010 11:02 a.m.

Lots of comparisons to 2008, but there are some glaring differences:

Utah was 12-0, ranked in the Top 10 in 2008.
Utah is 10-2, ranked near the bottom of the Top 25 in 2010.

    2008 Utah 13 TCU 10
    2010 Utah 7 TCU 47

Utah 2008 was led by Brian Johnson.
Utah 2010 is led by Jordan Wynn and Terrance Cain.

In the 2008 Sugar Bowl, the Utes were playing an SEC team who thought they were superior to the Utes and didn't really take them seriously.

In the 2010 Las Vegas Bowl, the Utes will be facing a WAC team with a chip on its shoulder that will be out to prove how good they are.

The only chance the Utes have is if the Broncos don't take the Utes seriously. Since that won't happen, there goes Utah's only chance.

For the smurf fans, let's review your schedule this year. You beat a good VT team, barely, abd Ore. St, by 13. You played well against Hawaii, who is ranked, and you lost to Nevada, boosting their rankings.

Not bad, but not a reason to assume that you will"crush" Utah. Utah played more quality teams than did BSU, even though they seemed overmatched against TCU.

Utah disappointed against both TCU (who should be playing in the NC game, probably), and ND at ND. Otherwise, they played well and crushed the same kind of patsies that BSU did. It's true that Utah's performance against BYU was an embarrassment, but a win is a win according to BYU standards...

Sorry Ute fans, but with U going to the PAC whatever, and BSU coming into the MWC, BSU will be out to show the U who really belongs to a Conference of Champions. If BSU wins big it will embarass the BCS, nost to mention the U. Look for BSU to try to put as many points on the board as possible. I do not see them holding back due to their Nevada loss and non BCS bowl.

The first quarter will tell the story. If BSU gets up early by a couple of TD's, it will get ugly, and the Ute's will want to just keep going to the left coast and not even want to go back to SLC. I can see it now. Landing in the dark of night and taking an unmarked bus to the hill and everyone sneaking off to their parents basements. "I just want to go to sleep....it's all a nightmare!"

Just the first of many big games to come...not to mention national attention. We'll win some and lose some but we'll always go to a nice bowl game in deserving years, with the chance of a BCS game in a special year even with a loss. Not everYone has that luxury.

Great things to come from a young team up on the hill. Boise St is awesome and has proven that they can play with anybody in the BCS era...so have the Utes for that matter but to have a chance at playing them is just another feather in our cap. Next year's feather is even better!

I don't like Boise St...but they're a great team and a top program and have proven it in a few big games, just like Utah. Can't wait to see how it plays out on Dec. 22nd. I don't like BYU either but the difference is they haven't done anything in the BCS era to warrant how they view themselves. Both Boise and Utah have. Give credit to those who have earned the right to talk. Prove yourselves when it matters!

There is an eirie similarity to the 2008 sugar bowl year. Utah could come in and suprise everyone, and then we could say that Boise didn't want to be there like the SEC homers did two years ago.

Or, Utah could face a very angry Boise team that was one kick away from a $16million bowl payout.

For utah's sake, I hope the first Boise team shows up.

I'm amazed at how similar the Utes' 2010 season has been to BYU's 2009 season. Their bowl match-up only keeps the trend alive:

-Both teams had one solid conference loss.
-Both teams had one solid non-conference loss.
-Both teams won a close rivalry game against a Freshman QB.
-Both teams were ranked in the Top 10 at one point during the season.
-Both were invited to play in the Vegas bowl against a ranked team that was only a play or two away from playing in a BCS bowl game.

Let's see if the trend will continue and the Utes can finish their season with a win, just like BYU did last year.

Boise St is a fine team... I'm glad the Utes get to play them. If we win a great accomplishment, if we lose 10-3 isn't so bad considering who we lost to. The fact that Wynn has been playing with a bad shoulder explains alot. I hope the Utes make Cain run more and add some plays to take advantage of his abilities. I just looked at our schedule for next year & this is a great time to be a Ute fan. I'd much rather play a tough schedule and have a chance at the big prize than not. I'm a BSU fan and I definitely don't think this game will be the slam dunk that forum posters seem to be making it.

The Broncos can be deadly on both sides of the ball, but as they have shown they do have weaknesses. The most glaring weaknesses are kickoff coverage and kicking field goals. In a close game those are definite game changers - ask Nevada. Boise State's defense has been pretty stout all year, but USU was able to rush the ball fairly well against a front that seems to have lost some steam since they got rolled against Nevada. The way to beat Kellen Moore is to first stop the run game, then have an effective pass rush while maintaining coverage. Good luck.

With the right game plan and catching BSU low on motivation or preparation could be a recipe for an upset. If Boise State prepares like they usually do the Utes will be hammered, hard.

This will be a great match-up with much natinal attention. It's a third chance for the utes to show they have a real top 25 team in front of the nation. Not many schools have the national repute to get a 3rd chance, but like teams from the SEC, Utah got a great bowl match-up despite having those 2 huge losses earlier in the season.

BSU is lucky that not enough PAC 10 teams qualified for a bowl. They would be in some low-tier bowl like the New Mexico or the Fight Hunger bowl. A mid-tier bowl is as good as the broncos could expect after playing in the WAC, which is unfortunate becasue they deserved a BCS bid.

BSU does not deserve a better bowl, are you kidding me? They are fortunate to be in a bowl game where the weak PAC couldn't get enough teams to go there, and their opponent is ranked. BSU will likely be going here from now on.

OK, bottom line to all this BYU/UTAH smack is this: Utah will probably lose to BSU and BYU will probably beat UTEP. Then we can step back and give a final grade to the season.

Utah (10-3) with losses to two top 10 teams and Notre Dame on the road gets a solid A minus.

BYU (7-6) with a loss to Utah State, archrival Utah, and a host of others gets a B minus or C plus.

Sorry BoringGuy, but the Utes gave up their smack talking rights when their Top 25 team had to rely on a bunch of lucky breaks to barely beat a 6-6 team led by a true freshman QB, at home, by a single point.

Burton may have made a great play to save the game for the Utes, but that's the point isn't it?

The game shouldn't have even been close, if the Utes are really a good enough team to challenge Boise State.

I am another BYU fan who will be cheering for the Utes in this one, as I always do when they are not playing BYU, but have little hope for the Utes in this game... then again, I was cheering for the Utes in their Sugar Bowl and going in to the game I had little hope for the Utes, but was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully that will be the case here.

It's funny how the same Utah fans who couldn't stop talking about BYU, even during the week of the biggest game in the history of the state, are now whining about BYU fans giving their opinions about the Utah-Boise State game.

Utah fans just can't handle the truth about their own team.

I'd cheer for Utah over BSU any day, but let's face reality here. BSU is going to Annihilate Utah. The U was VERY overrated this year and barely held off a bad Utah team. Game's going to be a boring blowout.

All I want for Cristmas is to no longer hear from cougar fans that now care more about Utah's games than their own team. Please send us a new little brother.

I find it funny that you cougar fans can't run smack using your team, so you use TCU and Boise State. Both good teams by the way!

I guess when you are 6-6 you have no choice, but please realize that you lost to TCU and Utah State this year.

If Utah had really handled BYU in Rice Ecceles, I could see a glimmer of hope for the Utes, but considering they had almost no offense in that game and their starting QB is out, I doubt it will come down to a field goal in the closing seconds, unless it's a situation where the Utes are trying to prevent a goose egg.

The last time the eyes of the nation were on the Utes they suffered the most humiliating home loss in their history.

Can the Utes sustain another such meltdown with the eyes of the nation watching.

    Timing is sometimes everything.

With BYU playing in the very first bowl game of the season, it's likely there will be just as many eyes watching the noon, Saturday BYU-UTEP game as there will be watching the Wednesday night Utah-BSU game.

Just hilarious reading all the comments by BYU fans wanting the Utes to get killed. Of course, there are few who are pulling for the Utes.

I offer the first and only excuse--no Wynn. Cain had better be ready. I wanted Cain inserted into a couple of games this year. Now, this game is on his shoulders and Wynn doesn't even get to grow from it.

This should be a very good game. It is a great match up of top 20 teams and makes the LV
bowl one of the best non-BCS bowl games in the country for the last two years (talking in terms of match ups not payouts). And, it is a competition for the supremacy of western football between the WAC and MWC. PAC-10 continues to have only one team and is clearly the worst of these three western conferences in the last year of the current alignments.

utah will get destroyed by Boise. Boise has too much firepower on offense and defense for the yewts. The only advantage utah has is on special teams. utah should've lost their last 5 games and Boise should be undefeated. This game could be over by halftime just like the TCU game.

"I look forward to a good match up, and I fully expect the Utes to be prepared."

    Based on what?

After barely surviving games against Air Force, SDSU and BYU, and getting blown out by TCU and ND, what makes you think the Utes will be anymore prepared for Boise State, especially playing a backup quarterback that hasn't even performed as well as the starter most Utah fans had already lost confidence in?

  • JMT Springville, UT
    Dec. 5, 2010 9:39 p.m.

At home Utah is manhandled by TCU and outplayed by a weak BYU. Utah beats BYU, legit.

The point is, Utah is heading into one of the toughest games of the year, and it isn't going to be pretty. I predict Boise St wins big though I hope Utah can pull it out. Certainly with their starting quarterback not playing I don't see how Utah can win.

As for the Vegas Bowl crew, what a match-up. They get two legitimate top-25 teams. Great game for them.

    Go Utes!

As for BYU, I am happy they made a bowl. UTEP and a bowl will be a great experience for a young team that will build for next year. With some great recruiting from JC ranks to fill holes BYU could have a great season next year. First though, UTEP!

  • Th Tooele, UT

If the Utah team that played Iowa State shows up they will beat Boise.

Utah does well and takes pride in bowl games. This is about as difficult as the Alabama match-up appeared.

I like our chances to keep this competative. Utah will be ready but could lose this one. Boise St is pretty dang good. If not for Ray Finkle, they are undefeated and in another BCS game.
    Go Utes!

Utah 31 Boise State 30 off a Ray Finkle missed FG as time expires.

Slaughter on 10th Avenue...or would that be Las Vegas Blvd? Sorry Utes, this one will not be pretty. I think that Mr. Wynn will be happy to watch this one from the sideline, offering support to Mr. Cain. What happens if he chokes like he did against BYU??? That's gotta have Mr. Whittingham scratching his head bald on that one...

Good luck Utah, you're gonna need every ounce of that luck that has served you well since that AFA game. I smell another 10-3 finish. Enjoy your new PAC-12 experience next year. With neither Oregon and Stanford on your schedule next year, ya'll have a good chance to manage 7 or 8 wins max, with definite losses to USC, BYU, Arizona, and maybe Pittsburg. With USC unavailable to go to a championship game, it is very likely that Utah could make it there w/ an 8-4 record. However, overcoming the fact that you lose 2 of your best OL's, top 3 RB's, your best WR, good luck pulling off that one (an 8-4 record). 7-5 or 6-6 is more probable. The following year could be even uglier!

Well, It's nice to see the cougs out it in force this evening. I appreciate the supportive words of some, couldn't care less about the sentiments of the detractors.

I expect Utah to come prepared to play. TC will be getting the reps and be ready to go. The big key is if we can generate pressure with the front 4. Look for Trevor Reilly and Tevita Finau to have a big impact on this game.

Outside of their BCS games, BSU hasn't been too good in bowl games, only 2-4 in their last 6.

Utah will be ready to rock, and will take down the Broncos.

  • Ufan Salt Lake City, UT

Utah hasn't beaten Boise State since the 80's when the Broncos were still in the Big Sky conference.

The last time the two teams played, in 2006, Boise State won 3-36 at Utah.

BSU is every bit as good as TCU, and we all know what happened the last two years against TCU, 7-47 in SLC this year and 28-55 in Ft. Worth last year.

The Utes have shown what kind of a team they really have over the course of the last 5 weeks and I don't expect them to produce any surprises for the Las Vegas Bowl.

It would be an upset if the Utes manage to stay within three TDs of the Broncos.

The Utah team that faced Alabama was light years better than this Utah team that was destroyed by TCU, was rocked by Notre Dame, and was lucky to escape losses against SDSU and BYU.

It appears that the eyes of the nation will be on the Utes for a second time this year. Utes vs. Broncos will have a lot of national interest I think.

The Utes will need to win in order to keep their top 25 ranking. It will be interesting to see what the Ute faithful will predict as the final outcome of this bowl match-up.

Leaving the MWC couldn't come any sooner for BYU and Utah. Their bowl opponents are, shall we say, unfortunate. BYU will manhandle UTEP while Washington will play Nebraska AGAIN this year. (First game: Huskers 56-21 in Seattle.) Washington, a team with the same record as BYU, will earn much more than the Cougars.

Utah, on the other hand, will be another door mat on BSU's nearly unblemished schedule.
