I wish coach would just come out and say he wanted to get Jefferson back in because he trusts him more to score points. The free throws continue to be an issue for Fesenko, but the Jazz could have used him for a few more minutes in the game.
Chuck it is like my thoughts on Oracle, once one has a reputation, it is natural in life to have your mind preset. It does not matter if it is Sloan, or anyone. I am sure we are all guilty of prejudging in some way.
He focuses on Fes negatives over positives. What bothers me is the man gets all those rebounds. Francisco shows good athleticism and length and can be a deterring factor on D. He certainly was when we won all those road games.
However, more often than not Francisco has little or a stat line. Stats are overrated and do not tell the story. At the other end of the spectrum though he has had a lot of games with like zero points, 1 or 2 rebounds in 10-12 minutes. He has become more valuable because looking for his offense more.
Fes can be a way better foul shooter it is always consistency. When he makes them there is arc and he puts air under it. You just have to focus and take extra time to shoot them. I cnanot believe a coach like Horny or something cannot get Fes even to 50 percent
Interesting watching Fes shoot free throws. He is pretty smooth, compared to someone like shaq. His follow-through looks good. He looks confident and then it is either long or short; shots are pretty soft. He might be better off, if he was shooting bricks. At least the rebounds might go out to the offensive guys.....I am not serious about that part.
Fess was a rebounding machine the other night...if he keeps it up he will get more time!
Elson does not need a stat line...he facilitates what the Jazz are trying to do...I like Fess but not at the expense of toughness and sanity.....but if Fess wants to rebound like a wild beast that was just let out of its cage......I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH IT!
It is frustrating to see Sloans bias, he has a problem with Fes because of his head case problems as well as his free throw problems. I don't trust Sloan to play Fes, even if it would be advantageous. Sloan has his bias's and Elson will get in the game before Fes now unless an injury causes things to change.
Fes is improving and if Sloan or any one for that matter would look at things, they would see that while Fes is on the floor the Jazz play better than their opponent.
That should be the name of the game, out play and out score your opponent but Sloan wants it to happen the way he wants, running his plays and playing his way. Fes isn't dependable on offense and so Sloan won't trust him.
Someone needs to remind Sloan of Eaton and how the Jazz won with Eaton in the game and help him see that Fes can be like that and even better.
My prediction is when Okur comes back Fes's playing time will decrease and he will rarely see the floor. I hope I'm wrong but I don't trustSloan.
Fes needs some special coaching on free throws and how to perform for coach Sloan. They need to devote some time coaching Fes through his problems. It will pay big dividends come playoff time.
BRuss: I agree.
I have said on here and Oracle, Fes will be the 12th man rarely if ever in once Okur comes back, unless Jerry can somehow be creative and have Fes play some minutes. At times AK is in too long when he is having problems with his offense. I realize he does more things, but the point is there could be ways to make Sure Fes continues to get some good time
I too am a Fes Fan. I would like to see Fes get good solid minutes 5 games in a row. He has never had that chance. A chance to get some confidence. A chance to show not the fans or the coaches, but Fes how good he is. Fes is like money in the bank. But it's time to take the money out of the Bank and put it on the court. Sloan must have lost all his withdrawl slips. Hey Jerry here's a debit card!!! USE IT!!! Just give him a decent chance and we'll shut up.
I think we need to get a little bigger up front against some teams.I'd like to try a line-up of Al at power forward,Fes at center, and have Kirilenko, Memo(when ready) to come off the bench. The second unit could be good with Price and Watson at the guard positions Also, maybe CJ should be starting and Bell should be coming of the bench for his short bursts.Kirilenko is a guy that Sloan needs to watch closely because of his inconsistency. If he's not playing well,he needs to be pulled out in a hurry and replaced by either Hayward,Miles,or Evans.
The Jefferson - Millsap tandem is good...but i'd rather have a Memo - Jefferson starting and having Millsap and AK backing them up...let Hayward play the 3 spot to gain confidence and improve...i think its better for him to get time with the starters...experience is the best teacher...and have raja and D-will make up the slots...coming first off the bench should be millsap...eventhough he isnt starting he should get solid 30 mins a game...i think Jerry is overusing his players...most of them averaging more than 35 mins...it may and will take its toll on the players...but after reading the article...it seems Jerry intends them to be in their top physical shape playing 48 minutes without catching their breath...i think we could trade a few players for some proven defensive stoppers with deep-range...like Trevor Ariza...and Tony Allen...that way even if Raja gets off the bench we still have a shutdown defender in the game...
I too am baffled,Fes looked good...poof gone not to be seen again.Everyone knows he`s a goof-ball and goof-off and Sloan just can`t or won`t let that go.Sloan`s biggest and most important job this year will be to manage the 4/5 minutes cause we are very very deep there,Memo,Jefferson,Elson,Fes,Millsap and AK Go Jazz..Go Fes,grow up and help out
When Memo comes back we will have a log jam at the 4-5 spot and a weakness at shooting guard. I think we will need a higher caliber 2 guard to make a deep playoff run. We need someone who can compliment Deron in the back court, someone who can drive and create his own shot and play defense. Upgrading at the 2 guard could be easy, just use the trade exception and maybe throw in the rights to Ante Tomic and one of our back up bigs like Fes and maybe Hayward for someone like Iggy, Crawford?
