During this contest we were able to see some subtle improvements in our passing
game. There were more inside/outside looks rather than a series of deep jumpers
or isolated post play. The vision that Jimmer demonstrated in finding the open
man, often with a few players draped on him, is a great sign in moving forward.
We will need that type of ball movement in our tough conference games this year.
I met Brandon at Tui's missionary farewell dinner. He was busy bussing tables
and having fun. He's a great young man.
This young man is the best of the men- Being his aunt and if you knew his
background-- He is going to play pro- ball one day-his love for his mom his
adopted mom is unrefundable- I am a very proud Aunt of Brandon Davies
And lets not talk about sweet 16 or Mega March yet. We need to focus SDSU, NM,
UNLV and 20 foot wall (two 7 footers).
Happy with the win but the Y will face their best competion this year against
UNLV and San Diego St. San Deigo St beat up on St Mary's last night after the Y
could only beat them with a last minute three by Jimmer. They will need to
improve and get health for conference play this year because the winner of the
conference will be a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament with a 2 seed possiable.
UNLV and San Diego may both go undefeated into conference play.
I don't know about the rest of you, but that was a very good win. Creighton
doesn't lose at home very often, in fact they haven't lost to a nonconference
opponent at home in a long time. Creighton threw everything at Jimmer and
slowed him way down, but in doing so, they were just abused by Davies. I agree
with some of you, that if Davies can continue to improve and play like this.
BYU will be a very difficult team for anyone to beat. GO COUGS!!!!!
Great to see others step up instead of Jimmer. It was looking for a while like
we were a one man show, but Sweet 16 anyone??
Wayne RoutYou are absolute 100% correct. The Bottom
Line is Davies
This team will go as far as Davis can take them. Playing like this every game
is sweet 16 material.
Great win!! If BYU can get consistent post play throughout the season, on both
ends of the court from Davies, Hartsock and Collingsworth then BYU will get to
the Sweet Sixteen and possibly further.
I was there at the game, and it was awesome to see the team get the win!
@Striker, you are right about the fans, I swear that we were louder than the
Creighton fans for much of the game. We all met the team after the game, great
team and great fans. Let's keep up the good work.
Wish it was on tv to see Davies play. Off night for Jimmer? Well I don't think
so when you double/triple team on Jimmer having other Cougars on the loose ready
to pick up the pass. I might as well goto the game in SL against Hawaii. Man,
Hawaii lost their first only road game against Cal Poly? Conferance games is
another month for our players to work things around. Against UCLA and Arizona
might be a good test. Don't think C. Collingsworth coming till next week.
@Bugoff, Doctor J: Good points you bring up. In my view what will help
specifically is if our big guys can start to play more effectively with their
backs to the basket. It's starting to happen, but they can get better. A sign of
this is that other teams will double team them more. You can't double team an
effective center and Jimmer. If we get to the point to where the other team has
to pick their perverbial poison, we'll be in good shape.
Great to see Davies contributing. If this team can score in the paint, they are
going to be tough to deal with.
If Davies can score in the post...BYU will be very good this year!
Great game BYU! I would have made the 2.5 hour drive up to Omaha, but I had to
help out with tithing settlement!! Aaggghh!!
Avenge the football team! Let's beat Utah, just like we did last year!Gooooo Cougars!
This team has managed to win while starting to gel. It is heartening to see the
bigs produce. You can't be a guard dominate team and consistently
beat good competition. There has to be more leadership from the bigs. The team
also has to be good at more than one style of play. This team has
potential in the long run if the Bigs develop enough.BYU is ranked
16th based on RPI. That is pretty decent.
A couple of the commenters claimed Jimmer had an "off night". Not
true. What he had was a constant double-team/triple-team situation (kind of
like the old "Hack-a-Shaq"). There were plenty of no-calls on
Creighton defense on him too. So, the price the Bluejays pay for such a tactic
is Brandon going off for a career-high game. Great win, Cougars! Good team
Good game Cougars. I was impressed by the momentum that carried throughout the
entire game. Got some great ballers on your team. Look forward to having you
guys back at the Spectrum next year, I hope.
Cougars continue to win, but will not be able to do so at the level they played
when facing SDSU, UNLV, and maybe even UNM.But I love the quote
about BYU's toughness from Creighton's coach.Collinsworth played
surprisingly well. Abouo had an off game. Anderson did well off the bench.
Hartsock continues to impress. Emery was gritty in playing well with his bad
wheel. Jimmer faced a real battle and showed that double-teaming him has a
cost. . .But I am concerned about the upcoming conference season!
As a Cougar & a Blue Jay, I circled this game early on... Good win for BYU.
Amazing that such a small Jesuit school (about 4000 students) continues to
produce good basketball teams. Similar I think to what we will see in the WCC.
What a fun game to watch! We sat on the very top row! That place is not too
intimidating and the crowd only really got into it when the game was tied and on
a few 3's. BYU fans, be proud, there were tons of BYU fans there. Someone next
to me said they came up from Kansas City just to see the game. After the game,
we got to meet the players. They all said they love the support for every single
game on the road. On Creighton radio after the game, they said Creighton had
never lost on a Wednesday night in the Qwest Center. Creighton really
isn't a good team. They did a good job to contain Fredette, but he took some
terrible looking shots and shot off-balanced. Not impressed. When he was
triple teamed, he always found someone else open...often 100% wide open for an
easy 3 or other shot. BYU had some awesome blocks and steals. BYU was so good
inside, but Creighton didn't get inside too often and settled for outside shots.
It was fun to watch the news after and see their analysis. Good job BYU!
And Rose keeps rolling along. Good job team and congratulations.
Great road win Cougars, Davies was a beast tonight. Nice to see others scoring
and stepping up their game. Jimmer only shoots 33% and the cougars still win by
double-digits, thats a great sign. If they can continue to play this well
together as a team, they will be very tough to beat and will have a great
Even when Refs let fouls slide against Jimmer he is tough. Davies owned down
low, last time he played this well was against utah right?Watch out
boYlen...He's coming to get you!GO Y
A great "team" win. I'm pretty sure that Creighton had
only lost 18 home games in the past 7 years. On a night when JF was
off, the team had an incredibly well rounded game with Davies playing his best
game yet and 4 players scoring double digits, 6 players with 2 or more assists
and Kyle Collinsworth getting a double-double.Particularly
impressive is that we have been winning these games minus starter Chris
Collinsworth. (Would love to hear a status update on his ankle sprain.)This is the type of playing that carries the team into a very successful
season.MWC is off to a very strong start to the year. Should be an
exciting year of conference play.
Quality road win. See you Saturday at the Energy Solutions for a great afternoon
with the Hawaii team. Should be fun.
Congrats to Brandon and the rest of the Cougars on a nice road win!Its good to see other players stepping up when Jimmer is having an off
night.BYU is going to need significant contributions from many
different players to have a great season.
