Congrats Cougars!

Coming from 2-5 to playing in a bowl!

When do we get to find out who we are playing? Please be Fresno State, please be Fresno State, please be Fresno State.....

Congratulations to Bronco and crew. Way to persevere.

Is this even real? A 6-6 team accepting a Bowl game invitation. This was anything but a successful season. Yes, there are signs of improvement but there is a long way to go and a bowl game does not make a lot of sense to football fans for this team. A winning record should be required. The Cougars need a better rushing attack. The passing attack looks like there is a sign of life to it as players mature. But I would not be waving the flag high for this invitation. It's time to get real, go back to the drawing board and reevaluate players and coaches and start rebuilding. Yes, the team is moving in the right direction but alot needs to be done before going independent.

I called it (six weeks ago). I was the prophet of doom. Cougs to the New Mexico Bowl. Now if it's Fresno State, I'm a regular Nostrodamus.

Ummm.....Deuce.
Do you know what "Bowl Eligible" means?
Yeah...the NM Bowl is lame, but hey...it's an invite and it's a little bit of $ in the BYU coffers. Also, the players get another game to play. They'll take it.

Relax The Deuce:

The Cougs aren't the only 6-6 team going to a bowl, they will have plenty of others as company. Their likely opponent will be Fresno State or some other team of similar ilk, a team they should be able to beat.

The last team to turn down a bowl game I can remember was Notre Dame under Lou Holtz, who was 8-4 or something like that. Of course, Holtz (and his players who actually voted not to go) had higher standards of performance than ND of today, BYU or the vast majority the other programs accepting bowl invitations. But with 35 bowls needing 70 teams, BYU is going to be needed to fill one of those slots and they are as deserving as many others.

Now if you want to reduce the bowls down to 20-25 like in former times, that is another discussion...

A Bowl game does 3 things:

1. It gives a team more practices for their younger players.

2. It gives the players and fans a reward, and a chance to end the season on a winning note.

3. It adds money and exposure to the program.

Just happy to see them get it. It has been a rough year. Last year I complained about the LV bowl being held on Dec 20. Now we are going even earlier. Still very glad for the team. Go get em Cougs.

programs play to go to bowl games so they can get more time to develop. Granted, 6-6 isn't something to brag about, but it allows a team to prepare for the future and have some fun.

Way to go Cougs (Especially in overcoming the adversity from the start of the season)

It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I am sure whoever the opponent is, based on who the possible opponents are, BYU will beat them pretty easily. That will be good for this young team to end the season on a winning note. I have a feeling next year will be awesome for BYU Football. Go BYU!

After a 1-4 start its nice to see the Cougars finish with a bowl invite, even if its just the New Mexico Bowl. This young team improved tremendously and finished strong. They could of easily thrown in the towel after the utah state loss, but instead they dug in deep perservered and finished 5-2 (just one play from a 6-1 finish). I am looking forward to seeing who BYU will play and look forward to seeing byu continue their development and progress.

New Mexico Bowl huh???? I'd be pretty embarrassed about that.

I think Bingham high school could beat the coogs.

Congrats to the Cougars for becoming bowl eligible after the rough start.

I'm glad they get valuable practice time and one more game under their belt. They have shown great character to stay motivated when they knew halfway through the season that this was their new goal.

I didn't think Ute fans would be eager to smack talk after their dominating, #5 ranked, NC2010 worthy stretch over the last four games.

Enjoy the Vegas Bowl. Sounds like the potential of a BYU/Fresno game would still have more appeal than Utes and Mid-American Champ...regardless of the venue.

Good luck with that.

Eagle actually last year Notre Dame went 6-6 and turned down their bowl. Although that was primarily because they fired their coach.

Talk about sweet-n-sour or sugar-n-spice. This season was both bitter (1-4) and sweet (5-2). I can only see two good things about this invite ... 1) practice time for the Jr, So, and Fr. 2) a modest reward for finishing strong. Otherwise, a 6-6 season is NOT the results this cougar fan wants to revisit any time soon.

Momentum for next year !!! Go Cougs

Pretty pathetic that a 6-6 team makes it to a bowl. Can you say way too many irrelevant bowl games??

Mediocre teams going to meaningless bowls. A playoff is needed. College football has been hijacked by the BCS. Instead of a playoff involving the bowls, you get 35 Bowl Champions and 35 bowl losers, not to mention the so-called title game that is 66% opinion based, and not earned in a playoff of conference champions and a few at-large teams.
