I remember hearing something about "luck favors the prepared"....

As long as the "prepared" are the Utes, I'm good with that.

And technically speaking, "luck" is neutral. If you believe in that kind of thing, the Cougars had luck too. Just not the good kind.

Sorensen is the king of "could have", "would have"... According to his story earlier this week.

I wanna know from Sorensen....

Who really won the game?

In your world of what if's, the scoreboard would show BYU winning by 21 points.

So, either take back your previous whiney excuses story and take the win for the "greatest team in Utah history"... or curl up and know your favorite team got lucky, Mr. Sorensen.

Looking forward to you covering the Utes basketball team, sir.

The Utes definitely won on luck because their talent sure didn't factor into their win. Either Utah is way over-rated or BYU is really, really good. Which do you believe?

I agree. Luck and a bad call on a non-fumble by BYU allowed the Utes back into the game. But it was the poor play-calling by Anae in the last minute that doomed the Cougars. They were moving down the field with great efficiency and probably could have scored a TD. Settling for time-killing plays and a long field goal was hopeful/stupid thinking.
The Cougs dominated and have nothing to be ashamed of. In spite of all the media posturing, the game was very classy and a lot of sportsmanship was shown.

A clinic in poor football by both sides, but now it will be remembered as one of the great games because of one blocked kick.

Nice way to end the rivalry though.

Seriouly, in the former words of a future all- pro, "the Utes must be living right". Lucky touchdown catch that was closer to an interception and the blown call from the booth.

Congrats to the Utes, the block was impressive and they did what they needed to win.

Congrats to both teams. Game was a nail biter to the end. Season is over, now both teams need to win which ever backwater bowl we both get this year. Good luck next year in the PAC12 and as an Independent. Maybe the bounce of the football will favor both of us and bring joy to the State of Utah and the large Mormon population in other areas. On to basketball. Enjoying the season so far.

At least the Y covered!! Yea Baby!!! Oh, and by the way, that fumble should have been overturned! I am not saying it lost the game because I don't really care but any impartial person can see that the man's knee was on the ground when the ball came out!! come on people!!

I thought BYU was lucky when the horse-collar tackle was not hit with a 15-yard penalty. I thought BYU was lucky when Utah's Blechen was hit with a 15-yard penalty for a helmet hit when he was leading with his hands, which the rules allow. I thought BYU was lucky when the BYU receiver was still bobbling the ball out of bounds. The announcers thought all these were the wrong call and they all went against Utah.

Oh yeah. The fumble that went against BYU. Well, I guess given the above we are even.

The blocked field goal was NOT luck - Utah's preparation played into that, having staked out a weakness in BYU's kick-blocking left side. Add to it the Ute player's 4.3 40 speed and it was all preparation and skill.

Luck balances out and so do officials' calls, like I just demonstrated. I just think Cougar fans are used to winning the close games and are having a bit difficulty dealing with it. I can't blame them - I hated last year's overtime loss, and Collie's 4th and 18.

2000. Luke Staley. Rice-Eccles Stadium. Ring a bell Cougar fans?

In 2000, they didn't have instant re-play which makes bradley's call even more amazing because they got a chance to review it and blew it a second time!! I do not think that lost the game however, because all the Y has to do is make the kick and they win!!

"Luck" belongs to the prepared.

I want to congratulate the TDS for coming in 3rd in the state behind Utah and Utah St. The worst school in the state. . . 6-6! Way to GO!

"Rise and shout the cougars are 3rd . . ."

The "Quest" will have to continue.

"The "Quest" will have to continue."

I think the quest will always continue, because that is what quality teams do.

Congrats on your teams victory.

I hope your fanbase does learn to class things up.

Booing Wynn, having a coach restrain a player going after the field goal kicker...

It just shows that winning the game does not give you instant class.

Rushing the field after beating a 6-6 team... Makes one wonder if the Utes have ever been there before.

Please, you are a state run university, paid for with my tax dollars... represent the state well in the PAC.

And, no parades this year.

I think we saw the tide turn back this year.

Enjoy it. It might be awhile before you storm the field again.

I hope all your recruits saw your coach restrain the player going after Payne, booing Wynn and thought "do I want to be part of that program after getting the lucky bounces to win the game?"

Unfortunately Utah will always be Utah, and their fanbase will always be their fanbase.

Good luck in basketball this year. I know Boylen has high hopes for a CBI berth.

I've watched the replay a dozen times from my DVR, the play call was blown! He had security of the ball on his knees, it is evident when the U player starts to rip it out, the ball doesn't slide out loosely, it pops out after the rip. Not sure how much more red goggled bigutefan can get. LOL! and a 45 yard field goal is never automatic. even in the NFL. You're argument is a joke!

Ute fans think their not lucky... first fumble surrounded by Y players slides of bounds. tipped ball into the end-zone, tipped interception, and unbelievable punt bounce. Those plays could be played 50 times over and it wouldn't have happened.

These plays aren't 15 yard penalties or a six yard catch "Utes Fan", these are turnovers.

U fans should just be happy that you were lucky and had a home-cooking booth, and stop trying to depute it. You sound foolish!

It was an awesome game, everything a rivalry should be. BYU was the better team on the field today, but Utah pulled out the W.

Here's what I'm most happy about. Ute fans will no longer be forced to listen Blaine Fowler and Todd "Homer" Christensen do Utah games on television any longer.

The game may as well have been telecast on BYU's station. When the fumble was not reversed, Blaine Fowler let out a loud and anguished NO!, that can't be. Made me laugh. (I guess he didn't see the San Diego State game.)

The only thing missing to make this a complete byu homer job was not having Paul James as the guest commentator.

1) "Luck" in sports:
Good teams usually have a way to take advantages of their "luck"--the so-called lucky bounce.
Not-so-good teams usually seem to have the ball "bounce" against their direction.

2) "Luck" had nothing to do with the extreme effort by Devonte to leap up and caught the TD pass.

3) "Luck" had nothing to do with the block by Brandon Burton. Utah coaches watches BYU games and spotted the weakness. They prepared/practiced Utes for it. They called it and moved Burton to the left side. Burton made a dashing run and blocked it. No luck there, is it?

4) Brandon Burton dashed in un-touched to block the FG. Was it "unluck" by BYU team not to guard Burton? Or was it BYU coaches' call to concentrate in the middle and left the corners unguarded?

5) "Luck" had nothing to do with the Utah's stop of BYU's gamble on 4th-and-1 pass earlier in the 4th Q.

Finally, luck has had nothing to do with Utah's 11 wins of last 18 games vs BYU. McBride, Urban, and Kyle have had everything to do with those 17 wins.

What Sorensen really said...BYU used up its luck during Lavell's era in games vs Utah. And now Utah has had all the luck in beating BYU--11 of last 18 games.

Good analysis, Sorensen.

with ute fan for once , no more todd christensen , king of the obvious. how about stupid playcalling for another reason to lose. not going for fg in first half and coming away empty, not going for 2 after td. dumb.
