A minor point, but Arizona State wouldn't be bowl eligible even if they win out and finish 6-6 because two of those wins were against FCS teams and you can only use one of the wins in getting to your six victories.

The comments from the Las Vegas Bowl representative just underscore the problem with the bowl system "They've been great for OUR bowl" (emphasis added). The bowls have nothing whatsoever to do with the NCAA, they are third parties to the sport and are competing to further their own interests, period. Its crazy to think that the bowls will wake up one day and fix the mess that is the college football postseason. That job falls on the NCAA and they have put it off for too long.

The solution is simple (and is basically the same as the FCS division). A 16-team bracket, and play the first two rounds in mid-December. The 12 teams that are cast off from the tournament can join the other bowl-eligible teams and have a bowl game in the existing bowls. Don't worry Sugar/Fiesta/Rose/Orange bowls, someone will still watch your game. The remaining 4 teams finish the tournament in Jan 1-8. The NCAA owns the tournament, distributes money to the teams via some formula, and we all get to watch 15 brand-new games. Everybody wins!

I would think the LV bowl would relish the chance to get someone besides BYU. BYU has been great to the LV bowl and has recorded 5 straight sell-outs, but that have got to want some new blood. Win or lose, I don't think BYU gets the invite to the LV bowl.

Hopefully Coug fans will show their strong support to any bowl to where the Cougs are invited.

BYU would fill the Poinsetta Bowl overnight, just like LV, but I don't think they pass on SDSU vs Navy.

10 number 5. The Pac 10 will not even have a representative this year. It would be a travesty for TCU to fall all the way to the Vegas bowl and have to play a 6-6 7-6 team as best. Even for the second place MWC team the Vegas is a good destination but a very poor payout and a worse opponent for the MWC. As a cougar fan non of their possible bowl scenarios are even exciting, but I am happy the made a bowl. A Notre Dame BYU matchup in Vegas would be nice. Not so much worried about the destination of the bowl as the who the opponent will be. A bowl game with Toledo or Miami Ohio leaves a lot to be desired.

If Vegas can get Notre Dame, it'll be BYU vs Notre Dame in Maaco bowl. If they can't get Notre Dame, they'll take the Utes regardless of whether Utes win or lose on Saturday.

Utes could see a lot of the Vegas bowl in the future since they'll likely finish in the middle of the PAC most years. Sorry, Ute fans, your team is not at the same level as Oregon, Stanford, or even USC. Maybe Utes had a better shot of getting to BCS bowl in the MWC?

Selfishly, I'm hoping Cougs slip to Armed Forces bowl so I can go see them one more time this year! We'll welcome them back to Dallas/Fort Worth for a second time this year. Go Cougs!

Sports Illustrated agrees with several posters. They put Notre Dame in the Las Vegas Bowl without Utah (to avoid the rematch). Air Force is the predicted match. SI has BYU in New Mexico and Utah playing Georgia Tech in the Independence Bowl.

BYU has been good to the Las Vegas Bowl. They fill the stands every year, hard for money counters to get bored with that. With no future Bowl tie-ins, it will be interesting to see where BYU ends up for future bowl games.

CougFaninTX "Utes could see a lot of the Vegas bowl in the future since they'll likely finish in the middle of the PAC most years." And some people wonder where the hate comes from.
