There is political movement today that believes it represents the one, true America. This group is trying desperately to take us down the dangerous path where non-citizens can be rounded up like the Jews in Nazi Germany (who also were big believers in the dangerous Fatherland uber alles political philosophy.
This movement must be stopped.

Laura got it right, people are more important than things. Would she agree if I reworded her comment to say, "There is no such thing as property rights. Just human rights." or "My home ownership doesn't make me any more deserving of a soft bed, warm shower, a good meal, money in my pocket, safety, security, and justice than anyone else.

Is Laura willing to put out the welcome mat and remove the lock from her door so that the needy of Utah County can share in her good fortune?

Now comes a new thought from the commercial conservatives:

There is no such thing as American rights.

Tell those Americans whose sons and daughters fought and died in Americas wars that it was all in vain.

Tell those Americans who daily struggle through life to earn a living and have a good life, that someone else has just as much right to their property as themselves.

Tell those American parents who have worked hard to raise their own kids that it was all for naught.

Tell all those Americans there is no American dream.

Laura in Highland,

I hate to break it to you, but there are people outside the United States of America. The term "Human Rights" refers the global inalienable rights of humanity... The term "American Rights" on a bubble-graph would cover almost the identical area, but using EITHER term is not a problem.

Our United States Constitutional Rights don't apply world-wide. But Human Rights do.

Being able to enter a country at will... WITHOUT their government's authorization... is NOT one of these inalienable "human rights".

I agree the Utah Compact is a good thing. But it in now way insinuates that we have no right to maintain our border, or to enforce our immigration laws.

I think you are confused if you think the compact said that.

I just read that there are NO illegal immigrants in Missouri. How could that be? They have laws that are similar to Arizona's and the federal immigration laws. They have had them for quite some time. The federal government has not harassed them nor sued them. If they can make it work, why can't we here in Utah? Why have the feds singled out Arizona? Why have they left Missouri alone to do the same thing?

Right. Read the Constitution. Rights are given to "persons," not citizens.

Laura thank you for helping restore my faith that Christians can be Christian.

Are you kidding me? Of course there are "American Rights". That is why we have a constitution and the rule of law.

Yes, basic human rights should be reflected in those laws, and we should be promoting other nations around the world to respect those rights as well, but to suggest there are no rights that Americans can claim for themselves is to deny the very existence of our nation.

We might as well dissolve the government, erase our borders, tear up our laws, and rewrite our history.

I am proud to be an American citizen. I don't think that entitles me to look down on everyone who is not, but it does mean something (at least to me).

We need just laws and we need to enforce them. To be charitable and Christian does not mean we have to welcome everyone to cross our borders without permission.

I agree with you Laura.
When did illegal immigration become such a hot topic?
It seems to me it came out right after our government started giving money away to billionaires and bailing out failing companies.
Remember the one trillion that was given away to precent "disaster" and remember what the money was spent on?
I remember, the billionaires took our money and gave themselves big bonuses
Now why did the government not ask those bailed out companies what they were going to do with all the money they handed them?
If you went down as asked for 100 million dollars would they ask you?
When the economy gets bad uneducated people start blaming immigrants: legal and illegal.
And those in power know the best way to protect their power is to direct the ignorant masses onto a scapegoat.
Irish, scotts, catholics, mormons, jews, chinese the list goes on an on
In the end those who keep a level head, and do not buy into the propaganda, and found to have been on the right side.

"I believe we need immigration reform."

I believe we have adequate immigration laws on the books now. What we need more of is enforcement of the laws.

"I believe we need to make it harder to come here illegally and easier to come here legally."

We already take in over one million immigrants now. We don't need any more than that. View 'Immigration Gumballs' on YouTube to see why.

RE: LOL | 7:25 a.m

THE LEFT have already taken us down that path of rounding people up,

the indians, the germans, the japanese,

Yep, it has already been done by left, the demcrats, the progressives,

I know of no other group that has done such a thing here or elsewhere world that not was not a LEFTEST group or movement.

do work camps, re-education camp, gulags and othe poltial prisons, ring a bell?

the jews were rounded by NATIONAL SOCIALISTS, the left.

that is an historical fact, not matter how hard you try to change the real history and truth.

and NO ONE on the right is suggesting any sort of thing,

just sending illegals home, and to the back of the immgration line, when they are found.

in other words just FOLLOWING THE LAW.

something everyone has the obligation to do.

and America has every right to enforce thier laws, control their borders, and enforce legal immigration.

those are not excused just because someone wants to be here.

you do not have a human right to live in the united states, but only a US citizen right, or permission via visa given by the US.

Illegal_immigration has been a hot_topic for LONG time. Maybe you just became concious when Obama came on the scene (like MANY people) but it HAS been a hot_topic for a LONG time.

It was a hot_topic during the Bush_administration. Do you not remember all the heated debate when BUSH proposed what he called his "Comprehnsive Immigration Reform Act of 2007"? The bill proposed by Ted_Kennedy & John_McCain in 2007? It was a hot topic then too.

You don't remember the 2006 immigration rallies a protests? Groups marching in the streets nation-wide? The parades shutting down traffic in SLC? Do you not remember that's when the MinuteMen organization formed? You don't remember private citizens volunteering to help monitor the border? The bill that PASSED to fund_and_build the 800_mile border_fence (still hasn't been done BTW).

It was a hot_topic during the Reagan administration (1980s) too. Do you not remember all the heated debate of HIS "Immigration Reform Bill"??? If you are too young to remember that... I can assure you it was hot then too.

So don't pretend everything just started recently.

People who can't remember anything PRE_Obama are SERIOUSLY_annoying!

re: question

As I pointed out: When the economy gets bad uneducated people start blaming immigrants: legal and illegal.
And those in power know the best way to protect their power is to direct the ignorant masses onto a scapegoat.
This has been happening since the very beginning of our nation.
Scapegoating the mexican immigrant is nothing new, it happened during the depression.
Our country loves the lost cost labor when things are going good.
When things turn bad, we tell them to go home.
I do not see this as the biggest, and most important issue in our country right now.
The mexicans did not cause our car companies to fail.
They did not cause our real estate market to go south: we did that due to our own greed.
They did not
