At that time in the morning, you should ASSUME there is someone in the crosswalk or approaching the crosswalk. I am stunned at how many people we are injuring or killing with our own sheer ignorance towards our surroundings while we drive.

----------
Time to ban the use of cellphones in cars, period. Other talkers distract the driver.

Teens are horrible drivers, endangering themselves and others, i.e., the 17-year-old who hit and killed a bicyclist on the same day. The death toll due to teen accidents is alarming.

Teens brains are not fully developed, and teens lack experience. Teens should be given driving privileges a little at a time.

In Washington State, a 16-year-old cannot drive with other teens in the car. That way the teen gets a year of mentoring by adults. Yes, that means parents cannot then turn teens loose so the parent doesn't have to chauffer (sp) them, but convenience is less important than safety.
