Come on BYU give McMahon an Honorary degree already...look what he did for your school and BYU football.

That is a good point ayeaye-
Would it count if BYU game him an honorary degree? I would think the BYU HOF has considered that. Jimmy Mac was the best bar none. There is no conspiracy to keep him out, that is for sure. We all want him in the BYU HOF.

Thanks for giving back, Jim. It's interesting to hear hypocrites giving BYU advice on how to live.

Live hard, if you could make a list of everyone you want BYU to give Honorary Degrees to, and post that list here, that would be great.

In the meantime, it's a great thing hou are doing Jimmy Mac.

You are one of the greatest.

Thanks for the Holiday Bowl. One of the best football games ever played!

I appreciate what McMahon is doing. The brain trauma suffered by football players is very underestimated. Take for example the most recent BYU player who coach Mendenhall said "was groggy, but we don't know if it is a concussion yet." Hello! If he's groggy, its a concussion.

For many years, there was little evidence and much controversy as to whether concussions caused permanent damage. BYU's own Erin Bigler, through fMRI studies, demonstrated that real physical damage occurs and is permanent. Furthermore, recent studies demonstrate that once a concussion is suffered, the likelihood of suffering additional ones is greatly increased. And the cumulative affects of multiple concussions can be severe.

I applaud McMahon's willingness to participate.

It may just be his age. I am 50 and this happens to me all the time, and I have never donned football pads in my life! Seriously, I wish him well.

If he is lucky he will permanently forget his years in Provo. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise!

Chris B - look at the photo of him with Lavell. Does it look to you like he wants to forget his experience at BYU, the place that made him great?

Its so great that all you utes are JimmyMac fans. He was a great QB but doesn't qualify. I honestly don't think he cares. You ute's are probably the same ones who cried that he got special treatment while at BYU. Yet you think he should get it now. Make up your minds.

chris b,

Mac forgot about the tds long before he started having memory issues.

I love that the fact the tds fans love him sooo much but JimmyMac could care less.

Definetly a one way street.

It is way past time to give Jimmy Mac the HOF. BYU needs to bend the rules on this one. He was probably the greatest qb in BYU history. Go Cougs, and GO Jimmy Mac!!!!!

Jim Mac is the reason I am a Cougar Fan ! Please put him in the HOF for all to see, he deserves it for all he has done for the notoriety and prestige of the BYU and its historic " quarter back factory University " label and trade mark.

Jim McMahon is BYU and the Miracle Bowl of 1979 will forever be his game.

You got game Jim forever.
