I like that there are more games, but it really doesn't make much sense why there is a 2 game, 1 game system. Although it worked for us last year.
With the current playoff format, the incentive is to make the playoffs, but there is no incentive in trying to be in positions 2 through 4. Maybe you throw a game or two to try and get the match-up that you think will work best for you.
My point is that any playoff format that allows people to think that way, is a format that has some serious problems with it.
I agree with both of the previous comments. The sytem now makes no sense. What exactly did RSL work for all season if there is no first round homefield advantage. Still a great season for RSL
Let's make the playoffs like the NFL's and eliminate the conferences. Had it been a single table playoff system RSL would've played a 7 seat. Makes a lot more sense
All I can say is that I am glad Dallas didn't end up with the home field in the second round. Trying to watch a western conference final with 5,000 people cheering them on would have been a tragedy for MLS and what they would like to accomplish. I guess they could have opened the tickets up to Sounders fans and then they would have had 15,000 sounders fans and 5,000 Dallas fans.
It was nice to have our place so packed. It really looked the way a playoff game should look. Too bad we didn't get the result.
