Here's hoping Mike Lee can meet the standard set by Senator Bennett!
He'd feel right at home there with the socialist and Democrats. Let's home one more Utah senator can join him there shortly.
@Wayne Rout, show some respect.
Senator Bennett spoke at a fireside at the U while I was attending. It was one of the best I went to. The man is brilliant and has helped out the state of Utah and this country more than anyone I can think of.
Good for you Senator, hope you do well, academe can always use people with real world experience
Bad for the future. We do not need any more "moderate" career politicians indoctrinating young citizens with their failed philosophy.
Real world experience must be from outside the Washington beltway, preferably in a business making real products, hiring people, and with the necessity to turn a profit or go out of business. Government "service" involves none of these.
Please don't perpetuate our past mistakes.
Bennett is a good and honest man, but should be displayed as an example of what created our current political problems, not the solutions for the future.
Sounds like a good fit for Bennett. A RINO with a son who turned to a Democrat as the campaign manager after his dad got booted out of the convention. The U got everything along the political spectrum except a conservative Republican who believes in Constitutional law.
Old politicians never die; they become lobbyists and think tank diehards. Please retire and leave Washington, D.C. We have a new breed of statesmen in people like Mike Lee.
Senator Bennett, thank you for your service to our country. Now it's time to write your memoirs, then fade away my friend.
I can't believe we willingly traded Bennett for Lee. We are truly a state of morons.
Good luck, Senator. The U welcomes you with open arms.
That would be the country's loss and the Univresity of Utah's gain. He is/was a far better Senator than Mike Lee could ever dream of being. I got a good laugh at the comment above for "Anonymous Infinity" at 9:54 a.m. -- Mike Lee is not, and will never be, a statesman. Utah is not well served by being stuck having Lee "represent" us in the Senate (Lee doesn't care a fig about US, but only about the clients he can now represent at our expense).
Good luck, Senator Bennett.
Memo to Furry1993
People with views like yours is the very reason this country is in the mess we have. Public office is not a career. Senator Bennett promised us 2 terms and he would not run again. He and Senator Hatch needed to work on getting back lands in Utah that the feds took as a price for Utah statehood. Senator Hatch is next for 2012. The people have spoken. Get used to it.
Senator Lee will be a great senator.
DN Subscriber,
You write, "Real world experience must be from outside the Washington beltway, preferably in a business making real products, hiring people, and with the necessity to turn a profit or go out of business."
I assume you voted for Sam Granato, the local small business owner, not Mike Lee, the Washington, DC-based corporate attorney/lobbyist?
And for the rest of you that promote "Washington outsiders," why did you vote for Mike Lee? Hypocritical much?
Dear Anonymous Infinity,
Clearly, you feel strongly that "lobbyists" and "insiders" don't beling in Washington, DC. However, you contradict yourself by writing, "We have a new breed of statesmen in people like Mike Lee."
A new breed? Really? Seriously?
Since when is a Washington, DC-based corporate attorney/lobbyist a "new breed" of statesman?
Think a little harder...
Bennett for Lee was a no-brainer, given Bob helped author the Obamacare disaster.....Bennett was a wolf in lambs clothing...He should have a ran as a Democrat, he sure leges like one! He will fit in well in Yewtville....they can't seem to ever get enough of his kind!
Sounds like America's bastion for progressive liberals (Universities) is about to welcome home one of their own. Maybe someone should remind him that the people said go home and he should try it gracefully.
As Senator Bennett has been a Senator for a lot of years, he has become a complete politician and has exceedingly little integrity. This sure won't help the U of U for quality. But has has "friends" that will make a useless position for him and the federal money he has obtained for them. He is 77 and time to retire and go bother his own family, he and his buddies have hurt us all enough, do we really need more pain?
Senator Bennett,
Please help us change the caucus system so the same thing doesn't happen to Hatch. We have mostly extreme, right-wing ideologues who attend the caucus meetings.
Support for 'higher' priced education should wane when moneybags Bennet does his double double career
at the U. Yep, write memoirs, vanish and save the nation a bundle. Gee, buddies up on the hill, and buddies in D.C.. Big spender no less.
