Love the non-Ute love. Keep coming by and showing how important Utah is to you.

Lose to TCU and Utah risks finishing with another good, but not great season...
So essentially they would be like BYU on a good year?

And just to help you Ute fans along, there is more football next week, then next week, AND THEN there's that BYU game too!
But to the players, only this game counts... Cause if you don't play the current game and you are thinking of the next game, you'll probably get beat. Utah will be focused on THIS game. We'll start to worry about Notre Dame Saturday night. However, after this Saturday, SDSU is the next toughest game.

    @anti BCS

You make the same arguments that D Harmon brought up trying to prove that BYU deserved Pac-12 invite more than Utah.

Cold hard fact: Utah has been to BCS twice winning both times. BYU usually disappeared off the top-15 BCS by 6th or 7th game--ie becoming irrelevant.

This year's Utah team is on the verge of something big--very big, that even a self-declared elite team like BYU was never there.

If Utah is to make to the NC game, its opponent will be an excellent team from one of the power conferences with at most 1 loss--unlike 26 years ago a self-declared NC team played a 6-5 team in its bowl game to end its season undefeated.

As we've seen so many times, the ancient history, come-into-this-century argument only applies when Utah fans are talking about football.

Mention basketball, and 1998 is like yesterday, and don't forget that NCAA title from way back in 1944 (Isn't that 40 years before 1984?), and all of those Sweet Sixteens and Final Fours FROM LAST CENTURY!

Of course, their entire argument that a program is only relevant based on what the program has done in the last 10 years is completely bogus.

Try convincing fans across the country that Utah's football history is more relevant than Notre Dame's football history, and Utah fans will be laughed to scorn.

Notre Dame's last National Championship, btw, was 1988; only four years after BYU's National Championship.

Utah football is the johnny-come-lately, new kid on the block showing off a couple of shiney new trophies, while the wiley old veteran nods approvingly knowing he has a trophy case full of awards that dwarf the new kid's awards by comparison.

Doesn't matter how good utah is or how bad byu is
(and yes byu is really bad this year), the focus will always be on BYU.

    @P. Sylvan

I am very impressed that you can "google" this and copy and paste from Wiki.

    I just simply put it:

--> mid-major: football programs like BYU, UNLV, Wyoming, CSU, Central Florida, etc

--> major: Utah, USC, UCLA, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, etc

    Hedge hog...

    Spit take here.

    Moral high ground?

    From Hedge?

In 5 years, the BCS will be gone.

Mid-major is a term used in American Division I college sports. While many believe the term "mid-major" was originally coined by the "sports media" in order to distinguish between BCS and non-BCS conference teams, it was actually coined in 1977 (more than two decades before the development of the BCS) by Jack Kvancz, head coach of Catholic University's mens basketball team. Indeed, such a distinction is not officially acknowledged by the National Collegiate Athletics Association, nor does the NCAA use the terms "major" and "mid-major" to differentiate between Division I athletics conferences.

So keep using the meaningless term. It just gives you all the more credibility.

Sorry, I said the last 17 years, I should have said since 1996, which would make this the 15th season, not 17th. Anyway, you get the idea!

Hello SammyG! Let me introduce you to the 21st century, I believe you two have never met!

SammyG: Thanks for bringing up 1984 AGAIN! Come into this CENTURY!! Can't wait for November 27 when we will be your host and you will be our Hostess!!

Thanks for your predictions. You have never been correct on a single one! So I feel comfortable about our chances this weekend. Are you going to be able to swallow your hate next week and give us our due like you promised if we win?

"It's just one season, it's temporary and accepted but it's not current news nor has it any historical significance." In the last 17 years, you had 5 ending rankings, two at 25 and your highest was 12. No BCS games and your coach has a 3-2 bowl record, ALL in Vegas with no bowl this year! Hardly temporary considering this is the first year of mostly total Bronko recruited players. 17 years is a trend, a pattern, not temporary!! Now you have WAC "independence"!

Good luck this weekend against the .... who are you playing? Never mind, No one cares!! Whoever you are playing, you will need luck. No more help for you from the booth officials!!

    Go Utes!! Squash the Toads!!

The tds bitterness and jealousy is just oozing for one post to the next. So much for the moral high ground. At some point in the near future you’ll crawl back under your rock and live the life you’ve been destined to — an independent Mid- Major.

A Hostess Twinkie toast to the Utes for running the gauntlet of cupcakes thus far.

AFA was your toughest game so far this season and you're about to open a whole can of 'you know what' this weekend.

    Let the beatings begin!

    TCU by 14.

I can hear the 'buh bye' from the BCS boys already.

There will be extra psychiatric help and shock therapy for those 'special' fans that need some mental support for the remaining season after Saturday's game.

I'll do what I can from this end for moral support.

And just to help you Ute fans along, there is more football next week, then next week, AND THEN there's that BYU game too!

Football will never be the same after this year. Enjoy it while it lasts.

    "A historic program like BYU's..."

Yes, this is a correct statement.

BYU football program is the 20th century story.

Utah football program is a great story of this century. And will continue as such.

And this year is not just "an off year".
It will be the start of the down-hill slide from now on.
BYU is going down the same path with Notre Dame.

Love it "anti BCS". You make more sense than anyone on here. I love how Utah fans think they are really that good this year. You haven't played anyone. I would love to see Utah win Saturday, but it isn't going to happen. Jordan Wynn will be exposed as the average QB he really is. Terrance Cain is better than Wynn, but that's besides the point. Wynn, please step into a pass this year when someone is about to hit you and quit running away and throwing off your back foot. You won't be able to throw off your back and not get picked in this game. It's true Utah fans. BYU has beaten you 3 of 4 years. 1 year doesn't change the fact that Utah has a better program. Good luck on Saturday, you will need it.

    Last 5 years:

    2006 #16/#15 BYU(11-2) 1st, unranked Utah(8-5) 3rd; BYU 33-31
    2007 #14/#15 BYU(11-2) 1st, unranked Utah(9-3) 3rd; BYU 17-10
    2008 #25/#21 BYU(10-3) 3rd, #2/#4 Utah(13-0) 1st; Utah 48-24
    2009 #12/#12 BYU(11-2) 2nd, #18/#18 Utah(10-3) 3rd; BYU 26-23
    2010 unranked BYU(3-5) TBD, #6/#6 Utah(8-0) TBD; TBD

    Top 25 Finishes
    BYU 4
    Utah 2 + TBD

    MWC Championships
    BYU 2
    Utah 1 + TBD

BYU is going through a rebuilding year and Utah is having a great year, so far.

BYU just finished their 2nd decade with 5 or more Top 25 finishes.

    Utah has never done that.

Beat TCU and finish with a national championship and Utah will move into elite status, at least for this decade.

Lose to TCU and Utah risks finishing with another good, but not great season.

All you Utah fans sound like teenagers talking to their parents and claiming that 70s, 80s, and even 90s were ancient history. Just look at the Wittinham/Mendenhall years, if you don't want to look at earlier years. How many times has Bronco beat Kyle? Three out of five.

Goodtimes, counting your redtailed chickens before they hatch?

Moving on to this decade (2010 is the 1st year of the decade, btw):

Utah is 8-0, #6/#6 in the polls, with lots of potential, but no significant wins against the 98th softest schedule to date:

    Pittsburgh 5-3
    UNLV 1-7
    New Mexico 0-8
    San Jose St 1-8
    Iowa St 5-4
    Wyoming 2-7
    Colo St 3-6
    Air Force 5-4

Combined record of Utah opponents to date 22-47

Yes, I know, it's considered "jealous hating" when you simply state facts to our overly sensitive friends on the hill.

May the best team win! My prediction is that TCU will will by less than 2 touchdowns. I think they have a better defense and their more mature qb will handle pressure better. I think that of the two teams, TCU has the best chance of a NC game appearance if the stars align. For all you no class commenters; Graduate from Junior High School already and show some class. Yes BYU is having an off year. They will be back. Utah is having a great year and are definitely on an upswing now. We are all proud of them. Both teams have a lot more class than is being shown by some of your comments.

@ Counter Intelligence Interesting comments about "petty Ute fans who seem to hate BYU"
I read a lot of sports articles in the Deseret News, and what I observe is that Utah fans tease and poke fun of BYU fans. But, On the other side, BYU fans quite often express 'hatred' and anger and loathing for the UTAH fans. I would ask you....who is it the really hates who?

    @ Sammyg

You are right. BYU's program is historic.. with an empahsis on history. Now, moving on to this decade.

Utah is looking at a possible 3 undefeated seasons and 3 BCS conference bowl wins in the last seven years. Not bad.. not bad at all. No wonder the PAC 10 looked to Utah to expand their conference. We're not dreamin.. we're living the dream.

TCU is ranked #4 for a reason, and beating them won't be easy. Then again, beating Alabama 31-17 to cap the 2008 schedule and finish #2 wasn't easy either. I wouldn't count the UTE's out quite yet.

To the UTE haters: Sorry dudes. You're going to be a frustrated lot for a long time to come. Utah is getting nothing but better. Wynn's only a sophomore and recruiting will be great in the PAC12. But Don't you worry, the TDS will be back to a solid .500 program in no time.

Big Game This Saturday. Utah by 3.

    GO UTES!!!!!!!

    "A historic program like BYU's..."

You're correct. The only thing remarkable about BYU's program is its quarter-century old "history."

Other "historical" programs include: SMU, Houston, Pittsburgh, Washington, Georgia Tech, Maryland, and other perennial cellar dwellers.

Unfortunately for Cougar fans, no one respects ancient history.

  • yarrlydarb Ogden, UT
    Nov. 3, 2010 9:40 a.m.

    @ sammyg

The BCS has so much egg on its face that we have proof already that it couldn't care less about "saving face." Just watch. Whoever wins between Utah and TCU will play Boise State in a BCS, non-NC game. Put money on it. That way the BCS will again dismiss these teams as "ugly sisters" whom they were compelled to include somehow in the BCS end-of-year celebrations.

Two or three years from now the only college football fans who will remember the year that three non-BCSers were in the top five will reside in Idaho, Utah, and a little community outside Dallas.

  • sammyg Springville, UT
    Nov. 3, 2010 8:37 a.m.

Nice to see BYU, a former NC, relegated to a Tier 3 status by SoCalUtesFan. It must really mean something to these Ute fans to run down a historic program like BYU's in an off year. It's just one season, it's temporary and accepted but it's not current news nor has it any historical significance.

The BIG news is the game this weekend. It's ALL or nothin' for TCU and the Utes.

It's going to be a slugfest for the brass ring, a probable ticket to a big BCS game but I doubt the NC. Unless the AQ teams really lose their composure it just doesn't look good for the MWC champs. Still a lot of football to be played and any given team can pull off an upset.

So this weekend the BCS boys will see one team eliminated from the nasty formula they are trying to balance. Look for the BCS to appease last year's backslap by pitting BSU and TCU against other teams to save some face.

    Sorry Utes, keep dreamin'

It looks like the 2 coaches are trying to out-praise the other.

These 2 schools are really the top 2 in MWC--the so-called tier 1

    Tier-2: AFA, SDSU

Tier-3: BYU and the rest of the conference
