Just to be scientific here: Could it also be that
it is predominantly the "two years of growing up"

and...The positive experiences of some of our missionaries is blemished with the suicides
of some of the others.

I was surprised at times by the shortcomings of some missionary companions, as they were undoubtedly surprised by mine.
We were successful as we focused on our common goal of serving our Father in Heaven and his children, and didn't worry about our differences.
Even though missions are hard, for the most part they do change lives in positive ways.
