First do not want to take anything away from East, they are good and BIG! But, this was dissapointing. What was pegged to be the big opening round game turned out to be a disappointment. W-Lake is a lot better than they showed last night! It's sad to see their season end. In my opinion, W-Lake lost that game more then they were beat. I'm not saying that East couldn't or wouldn't have beaten them. I am saying W-Lake played poor football, made far to many mistakes. East didn't cause W-Lake to play poor or make mistakes, its just not the same W-Lake team I watched all season. It looked to me the W-Lake kids got down ONLY 14 points and quit! Yep I said it. YOU GUYS QUIT!!! It was possible you could have come back by just eliminating dumb penalties and mistakes. Great season just a bad ending. East, very good football team. Good luck in your run to the title, I would like to your size and running attack against T-View in a championship. Good luck to all you kids from both schools.

What game were you at? East dominated Westlake. They had NO answer to the East offense. If I remember right 4 WL guys were carried off the field unable to handle the brute force attack of East.

East had 2 touchdowns called back and over 100 yards in ridiculous penalties and STILL beat you.

1 week at a time playing at this level with less penalties and there will be a TV - East battle at Rice-Eccles.

Go Leopards!

Though much has been reported all year long about East having meltdowns with mistakes in key stretches, gross overconfidence (see Bountiful game) and being a heavily penalized team, to me Westalke is also a team that at times showed a lot of breakdowns in these areas, especially with penalties and players parading around the field making cocky gestures.

Perhaps these were signs of lack of discipline as well as false confidence and when the Leopards hit them in the proverbial mouth with their athleticism and physical style of football, the Thunder couldn't respond.

Also, when one really looks things over, perhaps Westlake wasn't quite as good as their glossy record. No doubt East played in a much tougher region and played tougher non-league opponents. Westlake really only played one quality opponent in Timpview, and they lost.

Bottom line, the Thunder weren't ready for the prime time and some of their flaws were exposed. The good news is the Thunder have good young talent and coaching so hopefully they will apply this lesson of being taking to the wood shed for next year.

Re: Mans Game

Obviously your young and don't understand the game except for the final score. You obviously haven't seen Westlake play all year, where I have seen East and their powerful offense. East did not dominate Westlake by any means, did you miss the penalty ridden 1st half, the fumble on the three yard line, the mysterious offensive PI that called back Wrstlakes touchdown that could of and should of without mistakes make it 14-0. What domination???? There is more tithe game then the final score, in high s hook there is 48 minutes of football. Grant it East running game was very much on point. Westlakes game was not. Thanks for your comment though, I hope East has great success in the playoffs, they are a really good team. But having seen both schools play to their highest potential this year. I will pick Westlake everytime. I still think Wrstlake is the better time. And since I only get two comments per article. It will be fun to see how I get toasted now that I can't retaliate. Thanks Wrstlake for a great season.

Being a Westlake graduate (first year, baby!) I must say I was disappointed in Westlake last night... They were an entirely different team than who I have seen this year. I've got to give credit to East though, they played very well. This was just a very sad game to watch Westlake play. It's a shame their post-season had to come to an early end. Better luck next year boys.

I was at another game but came home and watched much of the second half of the East-WL game on TV. So I can't say how the first half went but from what I watched, East roasted the Thunder. A long pass, a long run, another long run etc, It looked to me that East was the better, more physical team.

Westlake is a good team and had a good season. I hope my first post didn't suggest otherwise. But I'm not sure they were really an 8-1 team if they played a tough schedule like what East faced this year.

Also, Westlake is a team, much like East, which is a highly penalized outfit. They play on the edge. I predicted when these two teams played there would be tons of penalties, a good amount of turnovers, and play that would leave many shaking their heads.

You beat East with discipline play much like what Bountiful and Highland did to them. They will usually make enough mistakes to lose to a quality team. But if you do down in the mire with them, they have too much talent.

east showed that when they play a complete game that they can play with anyone is 4A. East will make a very deep run in the playoffs and this could be the year that timpiew is upended. I am not guranting it, but east has the potential.

Westlake has only played two quality teams all season and they lost both of them. They were overrated all season. They just happen to be in a region that only has one high quality team.

Your defense will get carved up by Kuresa and MC. Big and slow, big and Slow.

It sounds to me like the term "over rated" needs to be used here.

Even TV looks at their region schedule as soft, so being 2nd place in a weak region is nothing to pump your chest about.

1st round and you were exposed.

Thunder? More of a light drizzle.

hey ddtz
how about not talking trash until the game? remember last year when MC was suppose to "carve" up timpview? yea we all know how that turned out. and besides who said east was slow? westlake is a very fast team and east made them look like they were standing still. i personally think east will run all over mc. they are just too small to handle any of the big boys up front for east.

RE: RTURN598

i know that this is not last years team but i remember that East was very big also. MC was undersized in that game too. size doesnt mean everything. i think that it will be a good game but i am nervous. just will have to see on Friday. Man i love high school playoffs:)

RE:ddtz
dont start talking smack over the comment boards. east is having a great season and to say that we will "Carve them up" that shows that you havent done your homework on how their season has gone. the same thing happened last year against TV. i was on that team and we had kids talkin smack on the blogs and then some of us didnt show up to play.
with that said, lets go and play the game.

My only question for the Leopards, what about your center and guard? Did they serve a state mandated 2 game suspension, or did you include the bye week? Some investigating may point out that the Leopards played two players illegally. Typical.

Mans Game - from your self-promoting posts, we all know that you are on the coaching staff. Give it a rest.

RE: llcoolpete - C'mon now, you think East would risk their playoff chances by playing an athlete that isn't eligible? For your information, they did sit out their two games (Tooele and Highland). Unfortunately, their decisions cost their team big time because their offense needed them in their huge loss against Highland. No clue if they would've won, but Highland was the better team that night. Get your facts straight before posting and accusing a team's morals!

Great job Leopards. You all did an outstanding job! For a new program to come out and dominate the way they did, Westlake should be a team to be wreckin' with in the seasons to come.
