East must have a lot of size if Westlake's Walker is impressed. When we played Westlake, we thought Westlake was big on there O-line. They may also have the most impressive looking D-line in the state with 3 starters at least 6'3 210lbs. Ask Coach Wong and he'll tell you the most impressive of them is there Nose Guard who maybe on 5'8 or 5'9 and at least 250lbs.
I'm sure Coach Mattich is breaking down film and is letting there own massive lines that they aren't going to bully them like they did most of the other teams they played.
I've been picking Westlake all week but as the game gets closer, the more I'm starting to lean towards East just because they have more tradition. In saying that, I'm going 27-21 East (yet it wouldn't surprise me if Westlake wins by more than 20)!
Go T-Birds!!!
5-peat for sure!
The only tradition east and any other slc team has, is losing to Utah County teams. Westlake is ready for them. Remember,"Speed Kills"!
Come on Westlake! You can do this! I'll be cheering you on! WESTLAKE THUNDER ALL THE WAY! Thor will cage those Leopards :)
Yeah, this is a tough one.. I could see it going either way. I think East is more battle tested but it doesn't seem like they're playing their best - as highlighted by being blown out last week.
Westlake is young and talented but don't have any marquee victories to hold their hat on other than playing Timpview tough.. But I think they score just enough to get by.
Westlake 42 East 38
SLC schools losing to utah county schools? i dont believe tht if West and East have more championships than any other school!
Yeah, I'm sure LP and PG have Bingham shaking in their cleats...
I hope all of you are playing Friday night, I don't want any crying after its said and done, we didn't win because of this, or this player didn't play because, ,...blah....blah....blah wasn't there, if he , or so...and so... was here this is " DO or DIE PLAY or CRY " one shot or go home, WHEN UR WESTWARD BOUND ...you know the rest, lets see it all left on the field.......
I think Westlake will win this one, but don't count East out. Home field,I think makes the difference.
Westlake is a great team. I haven't seen East play this year, but based on what I've seen out of Westlake this should be an interesting game. I honestly could see Westlake winning this game by 4-5 touchdowns though when all is said and done. Coach Jason Walker has done an amazing job with this second year school
Yes, when all is said and done it will be WESTLAKE. Don't underestimate these guys they are the REAL deal.
Thank you Timp Fan. Good luck to TV tomorrow, and the rest of region 7 teams. Hopefully we all can get a little respect.
6'3" 210 d line? Not very impressive on paper. Most the 5a teams are much bigger up front than that. Doesn't mean much though if you can't play football. I'd rather have football players than size, but if you have size and can play.... Lookout
East is a much, much better team than Westlake. They have played an extremely tough schedule with some quality wins. Westlake was blown out by Timpview, which was their only quality opponent. East Wins it 35-13.
For those curious.
East's O and D Line. (Size)
LT:Fisi Valikolou 6'4" 295
LG: Vaha Vainuku 6'2" 280
C: Liki Pututau 6'1" 305
RG: Sam Tuai 6'2" 300
RT: Meti Taililau 6'3" 285
D-LINE
LE: Ofa Hautau 6'3" 260
DT: Joe Tuponouia 6'2" 300
DT: Rennie Vaka 6'2" 265
RE: Dee Hafoka 6'1" 270
And most of these guys are young... only 3 seniors here.
I don't know if East can win, the only thing they might have is size and physical line play over Westlake. But East is limping into the playoffs.
Let's go East, win our 18th state championship!
@jbkhbrmz: I don't think you watched the Timpview Westlake game. Westlake is going to win, don't even worry.
