"It shows our race has been very competitive, on the fundraising side,"

And it could have been all around, Mayor, except you went so negative. That's not how we do things in Utah.

Right you are, PK. It's the tone of the campaign that has made the difference. One has to wonder what the race would have been like if Corroon hadn't knuckled under to his out of state handlers and started throwing mud.

Another (sigh) reminder that these guys are not the only ones in the race. Don't like the choice all that much? Vote Libertarian and you will feel better. Less government, lower taxes and MORE FREEDOM. You will feel more free just casting that vote.

This is a very difficult year for a democrat, other years may be different. Even in Utah. This year though Coroon was carrying a lot of baggage that wasn't his.

"Corroon...said his poll numbers aren't an indication voters don't like what they're hearing from him."

So, what ARE the poll numbers indicative of?

An oatmeal candidate that failed to capture anyone's attention?

I happen to disagree with the comments listed here.

I don't think the problem is that Mayor Corroon is running a negative campaign here.

I think the problem is that he hasn't done an effective enough job of getting his allegations across to convince Utahns that he can get the job done in cleaning up corruption in the state.

Everyone will agree that there are state agencies that need to be cleaned up, and that both Herbert and Corroon are qualified to accomplish that.

UDOT, the Department of Workforce Services, and Hill Air Force Base are two of those examples. The Machine Gun Fire, the illegal immigrant "list," and the whole I-15 bid fiasco show the corruption that infiltrated these departments.

If Corroon articulated his allegations better and done more thorough research, I am convinced that would have worked.

Some conservatives allege that he has run a negative campaign, which is simply not true. Those are baseless allegations that only reflect poorly on a majority of Herbert supporters who are not only content on winning against Corroon, a Democrat, but on taking their conduct to a lower level--which is unfortunate.

I expected better from Utah Republicans.
