I think that this is a great arrangement for the U. Especially, the decision to share all revenue including media revenue equally. The first few years will be rough. It is impossible to understand why the LA schools or the league in general would make such decisions as it will hurt their league and these schools, but its great for Utah. Nice job by the President and AD.

The south rivalry will continue to be focused on the USC and UCLA game, however, the eventual representative from the south will almost always be between USC and Utah (atleast in the coming decade).

The North is where all the excitement will be. Cal Stanford, OSU and Oregon. It will be a battle in that division every year.

The Utes scored big in this alignment. They will come in immediately and have a good chance of getting to the pac 12 championship game.

Utah will play in the conference championship game next year. With USC disqualified, Arizona is the only school who could even challenge them in the South.

the only tough game in that division for Utah will be USC, and maybe not even then if the ncaa probations weaken USC.

Due to the California in-state games every year; Utah will play the WA and OR games 2 out of 3 years and Stanford and Cal every other year.
However, although the OR and WA schools will play UT, CO, And AZ schools 2 out of 3 years; they will only play USC and UCLA every other year.
Utah scored and the Northwest gave up alot.

As a Ute fan I think getting into the southern division and money split is great. The only thing I would say is let's not count our chickens before they hatch in terms of being the dominant team in the Southern Division. Arizona, ASU, UCLA are not New Mexico, San Diego State, and Wyoming. They have PAC-10 speed and even lowly UCLA (which has all the future advantages of being the biggest school in California in the second biggest market in the country (so don't count on them being down for long) gave a beat down to Texas. I think we should save the boasting until we actually win the division (good chance we will but it won't be easy).

Ahh yes,

6-0 ranked #9 in the BCS
Just got the word you’ll be playing USC and UCLA — EVERY YEARI
The tds is in shambles and the Utes will cherry pick the top LDS players going forward…

It’s GREAAAATTTT to be a Ute.

Just Wondering...

You'd think that the Pac-10 PR Group could at least get the Ute and Buffalo logo's into the right spots in their states. Since when did the Utes play home games in Beaver, UT?

I'm thrilled about the championship game being played on campus rather than at a neutral site!

Many of the other conferences have struggled with the neutral-site model - the PAC-10 got it right on the first try!

Playing the championship game on campus may not last long when the PAC 12 sees a sold out 40,000 seat stadium and starts wondering what the conference could have made if the game had been played at one of the much larger stadiums in California or Arizona.

Las Vegas would be ideal as far as a central location, if, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau got on the stick and convinced UNLV and the city to build a modern 70,000 seat stadium to replace that old, joke of a stadium they have now.

Wonderful to see Utah moving on from the MWC, great day for college football throughout the state. The opportunities for the kids of the state to play on a bigger stage, and show casing there talents is terrific.

The future is bright and the optimism at the high school level is electric.

Yes I am excited as a "Y" fan and also a "U" grad I am so happy for the state of Utah and its High school sports programs.

I have had a daughter, son and several nephews and nieces not to mention all the friends and neighbors children that play and participate in prep sports. So with that said, the opportunities now with Utah in the Pac12 are significant for the states youth "Go Utes" in your new conference make the state proud.

That is so cool! Can't wait to see Utah come into CU and beat them down...although I think once CU gets rid of Hawkins the team will improve and be competitive again...I mean they do have a legitimate National championship.

It is great to be a Ute fan.

I also believe the Utes will be successful right out of the shoot in the 2011 season. Go Ute's

"I mean they do have a legitimate National championship."

They do?

Colorado's "national championship" may be one of the most undeserved championships in history.

See Colorado's infamous "5th down" play.

And even then, it was only a shared championship.

Conversation in 1978....Arizona will dominate in the Pac-8 (soon to be Pac-10) just like they did in the WAC....ASU will benefit from not having to play Wyoming Utah, Colorado State, New Mexico, etc. and will now play USC, UCLA, Washington.

Don't count your chicken before they are hatched. It is a great time for Utah to be coming in and USC will be down for a while. Utah should do well right off, but when things settle down Utah will have a tough time competing week in and week out with faster, bigger teams. There are no CSUs, NM, UNLVs, Wyomings in the Pac-10...okay, maybe WSU, but that's it.

BIg R,

Thanks for you hearfelt concern. I'm sure you wish the Utes only the best....

Can't help but think that if BYU actually wore the magic PAC12 slipper(instead of the Utes)you'd be typing something very, very different.

Remember when the D-News published that extensive interview with LaVell when Utah joined the PAC.

Well, I want to know LaVell Edwards opinion on Utah going into the PAC South division. Why hasn't he been contacted yet? What's the deal here?

Please dont twist the comments above, those who want to rain on the Ute parade that has been well deserved.
The Utes SHOULD be immediately competitive in the PAC 12. The Pac 12 is consistently overrated despite having top tier speed (the same speed the Utes have).
And yes, Utah got luck in being placed in an overall weaker division, which is a currently a FACT. If Utah got put in with Cal, Stanford and the Oregon Schools, then most of the comments you saw above would have been very different.

Of course the Utes need to still take their schedule one game at a time - and they will.

Expectations are high, and the national media is also hyping up this conference saying how much better it will be. Ute fans are not alone in those high expectations.

Go Utes! (still lots of football this year to worry about.)
