Go Brighton!
Go Davis!
Alta dropped from the playoffs in overtime by Weber. I clearly remember an Alta forward saying( after their first overtime game with Brighton that ended in a tie) that they would take care of business in regulation and never go into ot again. Hmmm jinx. Not only do the go into ot again but they do it two more times and both end in losses. But in all fairness Alta is an amazing program that all should respect. Congrats hawks on a good run. Weber well done good luck
Go Weber!
Nice Weber ! Way to represent Region 1.
Looks like 4 teams represented Region 1 well today. Weber, Davis, Fremont, & Viewmont all wins. Region 1 is solid!
Region 1 is where it's at!!
Region 1 by a numbers game in all sports should always have teams advance further because they always have one more team in the playoffs and the rest of 5a is one team short. That is a two team advantage every year. So by a sheer statistical point region one is where it is at. Since any team can win on any day it would be better to have more teams represented from a region. But of course region 1 is where it is at and they still haven't had a state champion in 5a soccer for at least the last 5 years. So even with that advantage they still can't get it done. Although I am happy for Weber I am sick of hearing every year in every sport how great region 1 is but they don't win state titles every year. Gimmie a break region 1. Win it all then claim greatness
Hov
Don't see much advantage to the 5th seeded team playing a 1st seed and the 4th seed playing another 1st seed.
Alta has been an exceptionally strong program for the last several years and have had two unusally talented sisters play for them. Brighton is also a great program and to win the championship a team usually has to go through one or the other of those teams in both girls and boys soccer. That does not diminish the fact that region 1 has several strong teams and probably is a bit more balanced than the other regions, at least in soccer.
I don't know why a couple of posters getting excited for their teams is so upsetting.
Region 4 let down. As a LP fan, region 4 got their behinds handed to them. Ouch! Alta's loss was a huge disappointment, LP not so much- but 4-0 yea, that's bad. Region 1 major surprises, Viewmont (didn't see that coming), and Weber (maybe the biggest upset in hs women's soccer in 10 years.
No way around it, congrats to region 1. You showed well yesterday. Brighton will show well. I think it'll be Brighton/Davis semi with the winner- winning the tourney.
Fremont/Skyline winner will be the other finalist- give the nod to Fremont.
@ Hov
Region 1's 5th place team should be an easy win for any other region, not an advantage, face it Rgeion 1 is just better, their 5th place team is better than any team in region 3!! That's why they should always get a fifth place team in, beacuse their 5th place team is better then other regions's best teams. SL schools are overrated! Alta overrated all year! Davis in a cake walk. Fremont second. Come ready to play next year, leave the excuses home.
Region 1 had 5 spots get into the playoffs, Region 2 had 3, Region 3 and 4 had 4 spots.
Hov
You have obviously never taken a statistics course.
Region 1 had 80% of its playoff teams advance. 44% of the overall region has advanced.
Region 2 had 66% of its playoff teams advance. 29% of the overall region has advanced.
Region 3 & 4 had 25% of its playoff teams advance. 14% of the overall region has advanced.
Also, the larger the pool, the harder it is to have a higher success rate, statistically speaking.
So statistically, Region 1 still dominated. You know Alta? The team that has won a state record 4 state titles in a row up to this year? The team that had the number one recruit in the nation last year? Besides them (and Brighton) no other team has any room to talk about dominance. Davis could have easily taken out Alta last year, had the ball bounced a different direction on one occasion.
So yes, I do believe Region 1 is dominant. With the exception of Alta.
Look for another all Region 1 final, just like boys soccer last year.
region 1 is good but the fact is they need to win it all or else its not impressive. the bottom line is Alta has the last 4 rings and brighton the year before that. Davis and Brighton have played alta in the last two state games. therefore the only region 1 team to really do anthing substansial is Davis. the rest of the world doesn't care how competitive you are withing region play.if 3 of the four teams in the semis are region 1 and then region 1 wins the whole thing at that point you could brag. if anyone else wins it you are just as good as anyother team that didnt win it. good luck to all the young ladies playing this week. Alta is out so it is anybody's game.
Nice point. Region 1 did great, but Region 4 is where all the champions have come from the past 5 years.
And I don't think Alta was overrated- one game anything can happen. I have a lot of respect for Alta and what they have done and think Weber must have played one heck of a game. Congrats to them.
@ satch
not any more... region 4 is the only region not still in the tourney.. "what have ya done for me lately" times have changed. Region one rules.
@the-buzz
Obviously, I am a little late reading these posts. But i am extremely confused by your post stating that region 4 was not in the tourney at all. Um, I do believe that Brighton won the State Championship tonight! And i do recall that we beat Layton, Davis & then Viewmont!! And we maintained a shut-out throughtout the playoffs. So quit yapping about Region 1 dominating! GO BENGALS!!! 2010 State Champions!!!!
