When my daughter was small, I refused to buy anything with cartoon characters on it. Of course when she got older and formed her own opinions, that resolution went out the window. And you know, I don't really care what anybody thinks about it. She's the one who's wearing it, so if she wants to pick it out, that's fine with me. Now with the baby I buy whatever and don't fret about cartoon characters anymore. Who has the time? They're just clothes.
I read an article about a mother who had the same concerns when her daughter became infatuated with Disney princesses. She got out her college art history textbooks and taught her 4-year-old about real princesses. The daughter liked learning about them. I thought it an excellent idea. The library is full of good resources for those of us who don't have art history textbooks.
