As much as I want RSL to beat Cruz Azul, it would be nice to get a result at TFC to make sure we're through in the group.
Given the lineup on Saturday it was obvious that Kries wanted to have a strong team to finalize advancement in the CL. A positive result means the Cruz Azul game becomes a friendly.
Friendly or not, I really want RSL to beat Cruz Azul. It gives us more recognition and respect if we can beat the teams from other countries, especially Mexico.
I think the team is playing the way they have to. As much as I would have liked to see RSL clean Colorados clocks I could see the strategy. Look at Columbus last year, they had nothing left the last several games of the MLS season and opened the door for us to move past them in the playoffs.
All of the teams (except us) in the CCL this year are struggling right now because of the added games. I think we are even showing signs of burn-out. Get this one game and then life can return to normal.
Exactly Cobalt. With the playoffs in our sights, getting out of our group in Champions League has been the primary focus of this club. With a point tonight, we will do that. Now, depending on how Cruz Azul does, it will be interesting to see if we play for 1st or second in the group here at Rio Tinto, or if we go with reserves and focus on the supporters shield.
Anyone know the status of Javier Morales for tonight's game? He hasn't played since the Seattle game if I remember correctly. He was suspended from the Chicago game due to a delayed red card from the Seattle game, but he hasn't played in either of our CCL games or the Colorado game. I seem to remember that he was injured during practice the week of the Toronto CCL home match.
RSL has never scored a goal at BMO field. If our CCL trent of giving up a goal in the first 15 minutes continues we may be in trouble. All we need is a tie to advance so a 0-0 draw would be fine with me.
It's amazing what Javier Morales did for that game.
Now that we have a gaurantee in the qtrs I think we really should rest players against cruz azul.... And still whoop them. I strongly dislike it when mexican teams come to America and have more support than the American team. If you are going to come to a game please come to the cruz azul game and represent RSL!
