The article says "some people think Charlotte Hansen is the first [women president of the University of Utah LDSSA]". Do they not keep records? Does the reporter not care enough to did up the information? Is it because the quick search revelaerd someone with a name like Kelly Jones as institute president in 1982, and no one who the reporter talked to is sure of the gender of said Jones? Is it because of institutional name changes someone can be the "first" LDSSA president of something, but a previous organization with a similar function but different name had a female president?
Beyond this, female LDSSA presidents may be rare at the Universoty of Utah, but I can testify that Oakland University has had such, and I am sure there have been many others at various places.
I am not sure if the LDSSA I belong to here at Eastern Michigan University even has a president. Besides having an institute class the only thing we clearly have is shirts with our name on it. However, I would guess we have a president, and there is about a 50% chance our president is female.
