The money should just be given to our current teachers.
Just hand it to them and say, "We know you've put up with a lot these past few years. We know your class sizes are way too big. We know the state legislature isn't pulling its weight in regards to education. We know you have it a lot tougher now that many of your students don't speak english. We know that somehow in spite of all this our kids still get a great education. We know how hard you work and we want to show our appreciation to you. Here is a nice, one time check to show our appreciation. No one at the district office or in administration will be getting any of this money. Thank you for your work."
That is what I'd do with it.
Right on Orem Parent!
Sounds like an excellent plan to me. How can we push this plan so our local school districts can adopt it?
A one time bonus for all the garbage they put up with.
I love it!
Can the rest of us "non-teachers" get in on this action for all of the RIFs, mandatory furloughs, mandatory pay cuts, longer hours and everything else that has come with the current economy that WE are also having to deal with?
Or just return all that money to the taxpayers in each district.
