I expect the Cougar fans to begin posting comments about the game in 2007. Go ahead, we Utes have moved beyond the silly back and forth. None of it matters.

A few years from now, we'll be going head to head in the PAC 12 in football and basketball. In the meantime, you'll be vying for that ever-elusive WCC basketball championship.

Let the Utah and BYU farewell tours begin! When Utah left the MWC it was like the death of a dear parent, friends were shocked but quite and respectful knowing the parent was off to a better place. When BYU left the MWC it was like a kid going off to college. The month before leaving, full of indecision, should I go, should I stay, what about my girl friend, where will I get the money for books and tuition? In the end the kid leaves for college having pushed his girl friend aside (Utah State) and leaving chaos in his wake. His car still sits in the garage waiting to be picked up next year.

boring guy,

Your paranoia is showing and it's not pretty. You were so concerned a byu fan would remind you of the painfull loss in 2007 that you just had to go online and make a pre-emptive strike.

I'm glad you've over the "silly back and forth." You truly show that by bringing up the biggest back and forth argument of these days - that of conference realignment.

Grow up bud. Hopefully your mom made you turn your computer off after you midnight post.

Dutchman: the only thing worse than posting a lame comment is posting it twice on two different articles.

The irony is that Ute fans have this perception of their program rushing into the loving arms of the PAC-10 schools, when the reality from PAC-10 country is that, at best, nobody cares and, at worst, they see the Utes as a very lame consolation prize.

I fully expect the Utes to challenge for a PAC-10 FB title within the first 2 years, but don't expect the welcome wagon in Seattle, Eugene, or Palo Alto.

Dutchman

Dee J,

And your evidence is? I have traveled PAC 10 country recently and met with people from the northwest here in Salt Lake City and to suggest that nobody cares or they see the Utes as a very lame consolation prize shows off your Utah County mentality. Is the campus your world? Most cougar fans exhibit no sense of humor. Sorry that my comment happens to be spot on.

Utah Utes1

Ted H. Your post says absolutely nothing. Go away.

Dutchman
My experience has been similar to yours. I'm sure what Dee J | 9:19 a.m. Sept. 9, 2010 is referring to are the BYU fans at church in PAC country. Yeah, I'm certain they are not at all excited about the Ute train headed their way. Beyond the church goers, the Utes are warmly received in PAC country.

Hey guys this is supposed to be an athletic sports board. It shouldnt have a darned thing to do with mormanism or any other religion. How about saving your mormonism for sunday and lets do football during the week. While I do hate BYU, I respect the fact that they fielded some of the best football played by any team during the Edward years but his teams didnt have anything to do with religon. Current teams and fans actually embarass their religion, especially their coach. He should be coaching home evenings, not football. Its a different game. How about lets stick to the game on the field for a change. Go Utes, on the field..

dakuwaqa

Isn't the Ute train more like Thomas the Tank Engine?

Dee J

My experience is smack in the middle of PAC 10 country where I've lived for 20+ years. I spend all day every day working, coaching, golfing, etc. with Beavers, Ducks, Huskies and Cougars - I read the papers here, I listen to talk radio here. That's my perspective. Do you think they threw a confetti party here on announcement day? If anything, they were commiserating that a two-division conference might deprive them of their annual recruiting trip to Southern Cal every other year - and that is a big deal.

I think my perspective is a bit more honest than you sticking your head out of the Utah bubble for a business trip now and then and asking, a la Sally Fields, "Do you really like us?"

Sorry to contradict your experience, but I call it like I see it - every day. It seems you Ute fans can't revel in your own good fortunes without poking BYU in the eye. And having grown up in Davis County, I always find it amusing when Utah fans accuse BYU fans of having a myopic mentality - talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

mussingaround

I thought I'd stop by to see what Utah fans were saying about the Utes final season in the MWC and all I see are a bunch of paranoid posts from juvenile Utah fans who are still obsessed with BYU.

Classic little brother behavior from fans of a program that supposedly left Big Brother in their dust months ago.

Dutchman

Dee J,

You exemplify most BYU fans I know including the infamous Max Hall who throw a temper tandrum over a light hearted (or spilled beer, if that ever really happened) comment about their quest for perfection team. I hope life is good on the Oregon Coast. It is a beautiful place. I'll probably travel there for a game sometime soon.

Dee J,

Let me guess.... your a tds fan. I'd never would have thought.

Rational

There is an old saying about people who are working fast and hard: "I'll you could see is -------- and elbows." I put the -------- in not because of sensors, but because they can't use that saying anymore. All there are on job sites anymore is elbows, because all the -------- are busy posting on here.

What does my being a BYU fan have to do with Utah being a lame consolation prize for the Pac-10? Let's see - Texas and maybe 4 other Big-12 teams...or Utah.

Neither OSU nor UO play games on the Oregon Coast. You might catch a Tillamook Cheesemakers game over there. Max Hall is a loose cannon. What's a "tandrum?"

Hedgy - nice to see you pop up on an article that isn't about BYU - maybe we can make this a tradition. Judging from all your other comments, you rarely do in fact think.

Hedgy - nice to see you pop up on an article that's actually about the Utes - and judging from all your other posts, you rarely do in fact think.

Dutchman - you'll catch some great Tillamook Cheesemakers games down on the Oregon Coast; OSU and UO play in the Willamette Valley. Not sure why you thought my post was throwing a "tandrum."

Not sure what my being a BYU fan has to do with Utah being a lame consolation prize for the Pac-10. Let's see - Texas and 4 other Big 12 teams...or Utah. Hey, but don't take my word for it - look up some Ken Goe articles from the Oregonian, or the sports beat writer from the SF Chronicle. Like I said, I think Utah will challenge for the Pac 10 title in the first couple of years, but from a financial perspective you're still the lame consolation prize.

And your reason for being on a Utah article is??

Looks to me like you're intention is to start the smack and then accuse Utah fans of being obsessed with BYU. How lame.

Regarding your West Coast "experience..."

You don't honestly think that BYU would be welcomed with open arms by the general population of the PAC, do you? Face it, you're still steamed about Utah receiving the vote of approval from the likes of Stanford, UCLA, Berkley, Washington, and ASU. You just can't let it go, can you? Even with BYU going independent, you recognize they are going no where. A fine schedule they put together for 2011...what a joke!

Utah a consolation prize? You obviously haven't listened to Larry Scott. Therefore, you are uninformed.

BTW...I live in the heart of Big 12 country and I want you to know that no one out here knows who/what BYU is...except at church.

Now, back to the topic...GO UTES!!!!!

Dee J

Well, Utah Utes1, 2 of the first 3 commenters brought up the Cougars, so I felt free to drop my 2 cents worth, just like you do on all the BYU articles. And my comments were in fact about the Utes, not the Cougars.

And no, I'm absolutely certain that BYU would not be welcomed with open arms by the GP of the PAC - they hate the Cougs out here. That's what happens when you regularly beat their schools.

I'm not steamed at the Utes getting an invite - we Coug fans used to naively assume BYU and Utah would go into the PAC together. I'm happy for the Utes - I think you'll enjoy playing in the PAC, and do very well. However, I am steamed at the Presidents of Berkeley and Stanford for rejecting BYU for reasons other than the quality of their athletics program.

After playing all his cards on Texas and the Big 12, what was Larry Scott supposed to say - "Well, Utah, you weren't our first - fifth choice, but we'll take you anyway."

And your Big 12 country comment is ludicrous, and you know it.

Dutchman:

I am sure that whole analogy worked better around the dinner table with your friends than it came acroos in the post.

Which part of you analogy is dead on?

"a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump."

Utah leaving is like dead parents? How?

How is USU like a girlfriend? They are athletic programs.

what's the deal with the car in the garage? What? how?

Sorry, I know you thought it was cute, but "dead on"? Seriously?

Dee J

Don't worry. Utah fans have nothing so they bag on the team that has 3 of the past 4, and the program that took 9 MWC championships last year to their 1, and smoked them head to head in the Deseret Duel.

Boring guy starts at 12:22 a.m. talking about the UNLV game (27-0), and from there it all just goes weird.

The most telling is Kyle just blows off everyone in the conference.

I really thought he would be the last to go arrogant. I thought he was more grounded.

Maybe he is...
