Smart move because the Ogden Temple isn't the most attractive one... if ya know what I mean.
It also does not work very well as far as moving people through. This design is an improvement over the old one. I just hope the get the work done quickly.
looks much better
I remember when Ogden and Provo were built--they are the only two temples I've never thought were very pretty.
Ogden/Provo temple were very experimental. Emil Fetzer, the architect, was charged with building low-cost, highly-efficient temples, which he did. The church learned things from these two that have positively benefited the design of all subsequent temples.
Painting the steeple white was a mistake, because the temple + gold steeple actually had meaning (cloud by day, pillar of fire by night).
Bottom line is that Fetzer had an indelible impact on temple design.
Apparently I am in the minority, but I will truely miss the beautiful architectual style of the Ogden Temple. Perhaps with time I will come to love the beauty of the new exterior. But for now it is very hard for me to see it go. It is like losing an old friend.
To Southern: thanks for the background on the Ogden / Provo temples.
I wonder if they are going to change the Provo temple also.
I am in the minority also. I love the Ogden temple. I've had a lot of great experiences in that place being a convert. The new temple will be a good thing, but I don't think building for wedding business to get a jump start is very impressive. Oh well that maybe just me. Thanks for the efforts always.
To those who will miss the old architecture of the Ogden Temple I say take pictures of the outside and cherish memories of the inside.
Mormon 8:37
Nuff said.
Levi, who is Nuff? He certainly didn't say anything about the church sending 400,000 pounds of supplies to Pakistan while extending a hand of cooperation to an Islamic Relief org. nor did he say anything about Haiti, or the hundreds of other relief efforts the church has engaged in.
Feeble attempt at best.
I'll not miss the old structure. It isn't the thing that's attractive to me and I'm not sentimental. I do feel bad, however, for those who'll miss the old building. I'm sure you'll love the new one once you go there a few times.
