Having two teens who are self suffecient, my wife and I took off one Saturday morning and drove up to the mountains for the day. I fished, she read books, we talked, laughed, went and got greasy cheesburgers and onion rings afterwards and it was the best day/date that we've had in years.
It also went a considerable ways in bringing us closer because we've had issues in the marriage that have had us questioning where wanted to go in the marriage. If feasible, you just sometimes have to ditch the kids.
