Now I know why BYU went independent--they knew they could never win against TCU or BSU. I'm ashamed to be a BYU fan:(

Fiddler

DDR, is that why they're scheduling Texas and Notre Dame? If I were you I'd worry about the softest QB in the game facing the Rebels this week.

As far as shame goes, you think you feel it, you should check your parents.

...Now I know why BYU went independent--they knew they could never win against TCU or BSU...

It's exactly the point Utah fans have been trying to make.
TV package is just a "convenient" excuse.
BYU knows that with TCU/Utah in MWC now and TCU/BSU in MWC after this season, BYU would never manage to stay unbeaten in MWC to get to BCS game.

MUSSing with U

Are these Utah trolls really as clueless in life as they are on these blogs?

Sure, DDR, BYU knew they couldn't compete with Boise State, so of course, the Cougars scheduled the Broncos for a four-game series BEFORE Boise State joined the MWC.

What a bunch of losers these Utah trolls are: hedgehog and his new minnion, DDR

Re: DDR,

Yeah, you're a BYU fan like I'm the Dalai Lama. Nice try troll.

I noticed that Fresno had a good win week 1, wondered how many votes that would bring. Not many.

I watched bits from the Utah, BYU, TCU, and Boise games. All teams had great performances for week 1. It will be interesting to see what hapens if all of these teams keep winning.

Early talk about Boise in the Championship game. They lack the strength of schedule this year to make it (unless everyone else has two losses and Va Tech runs the rest of their schedule). TCU is a more interesting option. Wins over Baylor and SMU won't help much, but wins over ranked BYU (22?) and Utah (10?) may be enough.

It takes an entire conference TCU fans, so start cheering for Utah and BYU. It may make an interesting post season.

@ Fiddler

as always, very cute. the type of thing I am sure your mom prints out and hangs on her fridge, right next to the "heres Fiddler at pre-school graduation" picture.

Jute19

Comical really on all fronts. Just relax and be normal. I am sure that your world isn't going to end just because you think that some 'troll' is making your blood boil.

I think Utah should be about 15th and BYU should be about 32nd-33rd. I am not sure why people think the Cougars are that good. Reputation from the past 3-4 years I suppose.

DEW Cougars

polls are FLAWS. Admit it. why come out with the poll before the season? maybe after the 5th week would make sense, but bcs computer system needs to go. Yes BYU did scheduled Boise 4 games series before they even joined the mwc starting 2011.
Here is the catched, if Boise and TCU dreaming about NC this early when being polled top 5 - watch out. Why, when bcs start playing their conferance games, they will leap frog over those NQ schools.

Utah Utes1

Great comment, Fiddler! Yeah, you nailed...no way BYU would ever finish higher than #3 in the MWC. Leaving was the best option.

JustintimeY

Re:KSDBN in november you will understand a little better. We will see where the ranking are at the end of the season and see if your evaluation of Utah 15 and BYU 33 still makes sense :)

@KSDBN
...BYU should be about 32nd-33rd...

That is what AP poll has BYU at.

It seems to me that BYU is willing to take a hit on the win/loss side to become a better team and generate more exposure. With Notre Dame, Texas, Utah, and Boise (I assume that series will remain in place) and more announcements to come, it looks to me like BYU could have 4-5 ranked teams on their annual schedule. It is a gutsy move and it has my respect.

BYU beat a better team than Alabama, Ohio State, and many others ranked ahead of them. There is no reason why they should not be ranked.

Catch_Cola

TV execs would die without their polls. Poll rankings are great at getting people to watch games they wouldn't normally watch, and hyping certain teams. Without polls I wouldn't have looked up the Boise State game against VaTech last night. -but I'm glad I did, b/c they had some great plays in that game.
But Polls are terrible at deciding bowl games. DEW is right, AQ schools get too many votes and I expect TCU to get outvoted by a few schools that are right behind them.

Cougar Claws

A team full of freshman and we can still manage to crack the polls after the first win.

This program has really established itself as a consistently decent player in college football.

Go Cougars!!!

Bugoff

BYU will find the rankings easier as they get better exposure.

I do not see a lot of difference between the level of play between BYU and Utah right now.

BYU was not expected to beat UW so they are getting ranked as they should. If they keep winning they the polls will take care of themselves.

BSU will not make the championship game this year. The computers account for schedule strength and that will keep them out of the BCS championship game.

One of the MTN teams might have a chance. However, after watching ORstate/TCU, I suspect both BYU and Utah have a decent shot at TCU.

Re: Justintime and Cougars- Best lil bros.

So I was right about 32-33...

We will see where it all stacks out and then maybe I will understand. I think it will be hard for BYU to be higher than 33rd if they lose to AFA, FSU, TCU and Utah. If they win 1 of those it will be a 25-27 final ranking...If they can go 10-2 they will be 15th-18th. 11-1. They will be 7th-10th...undefeated puts them at 3rd-5th.

LEDSFW

I am always amazed at some of the ignorant comments I read on these sites. Let's just start with "respect." It took the coaches only one week and win over a PAC-10 team returning 18 starters for BYU to jump into the rankings after the massive losses to last year's senior class. That's NATIONAL respect. BYU is 3-2 vs. Utah and 2-3 vs. TCU over the past five years so it hardly looks like they are escaping the MWC to avoid either team, especially since UTAH and BYU will continue playing each other. Don't forget, it was a BAD call that cost BYU a victory over TCU in overtime five years ago or it would be 3-2 against the Frogs. Sometimes it helps to be respectful of your opponents. Facts are difficult to overlook.
