Flightdeck communication with Bahrain control indicates the crew was unable to change radio frequency due to poor visibility from smoke in the cockpit, and that they elected a return to Dubai due to familiarity with the airport and it approaches.
Apparently, after their missed approach, they were unable to retain control for their go-around.
Hopefully, the CVR and FDR black boxes will identify the challenges faced by this two-man crew, which many have argued may be too small of a crew to manage the technical requirements of this aircraft- type in emergency situations.
Emergency with Bahrain Control and emergency descent to 10000 ft; Fire in flight deck; unable to read instruments or changing freq with UAE control
several a/c relay transmission and radar vectors from UAE control on to Bahrain freq
Last position on OMDB was 7000 ft - 6 nm final 12L for DXB
After attempting a straight in approach for 12L and getting there high and fast they were suggested to try OMSJ on hdg 090 or make a 360.
I am afraid they lost spacial orientation while trying to join a RH downwidn for 12L.
They seemed to be unable to see any flight instrument or radio in the cockpit and they continously asked for their altitude, speed, heading to ATC.
